Whats your thoughts on this?
What if Specializations cost skill points to unlock each one of them?
Would you be okay with that or not?
Thats something thats been on the back of my mind as I been collecting Skill Scrolls.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\there is only one specialization per profession. What is there to unlock?
My bank wouldn’t care because I have over 5000 of the scrolls.
I really hope there’s going to be a more immersive way to get specs than just “open up the hero panel and buy them with SP”. Like, proper sidequests to unlock them that actually relate to the spec itself. Druid gets learned from someone living in the jungle after doing a few quests with them to purify nature and remove Mordremoth’s influence from an area, Engineer is learned from some eccentric gadget maker after gathering parts to help him make something, ect.
I guess I wouldn’t mind buying them with SP after doing the sidequest as long as the SP cost isn’t insane (I know some people supposedly have 500 or even a thousand SP saved up, but the average player probably doesn’t), but that would deflate the reward from the sidequest somewhat
I just hope they’re different enough to feel almost like a new class. I wish Anet would go more in depth about specializations (I’m so bored of all this WvW info, though I know for some this is probably the most exciting news).
If they gave us a run down of one speciliazation then we’d at least know roughly what to expect for other professions’ specializations. By this I mean the rules of how to obtain it, how many skills/traits get switched out, do existing weapon skills get changes, etc etc.
Give us something for more speculation Anet please! (Hopefully next week)

I think the new skills will all cost skill points. And if you look at the newest skill, they’ve cost 25 skill points each.

Most people that play the game regularly will have 1000-2000 SP’s, so I can’t imagine it will matter that much. I spend mine regularly and I will have over 1000, plus a stack of scrolls just in case.

I think sometimes people underestimate their play time to the average.

For now odds are they are going to add in a lot more and if you want to get down to it each class has 2 specialization the level 80 you need to get before you can unlock the others and the new one they are adding in.
I think its going to be a quest that you need the expansion to do. I have a feeling its going to be some what like the old GW1 add in a new class every expansion now if they add them in for expansion or for LS updates its has been yet to be seen.
Yes it going to require some pve to get the new specialization and i do not think your going to be able to use the specialization in spvp but you should be able to use them in wvw.

They are indeed going to add in more but ‘a lot more’? Doubtful.

That is one way of looking at it, yes.

On the one hand I hope so but on the other hand I also hope WvW and SPvP players can use specializations without doing PvE.
Yes it going to require some pve to get the new specialization
Nothing in that direction has even been hinted.
and i do not think your going to be able to use the specialization in spvp
And what gives you that impression?

I have just little over 2,000 scrolls saved up and have 2,000+ skill points on one on my toons in skills tab also, its not like scrolls are hard to get in EOTM.

Why would they not add more in? I am kind of at a lost where your drawing that info becuse it seems like it the best system for a game like GW2. In a lot of ways its odd that GW2 did not start out with this type of system.
For now you can say there only 1 but in time and from that point of view over the long run the base class will be seen as an specialization.
There no way they will not be in pve and i cant images specialization finding there way into spvp at all well at least for the first few months of them being out. Much like how they add in more gear sets and runs sigil etc.. to spvp more over time when they think its ready for a balance pvp fight. WvW is open pvp so any thing gose that part of the fun.
You at least need the expansion HoT to get the specialization odds are its going to need some type of pve to get it would be weird the sec you get to 80 you can specialize and as they add more in you can get though too the sec they are dl. That and it seems all the specialization are part of the story in one way or another as in they are jungle base.
Hard to balances and how they worked with new gear combos runes sigil so we may see them in there but right when they come out i do not think they will be ready. WvW will be more of the testing grounds of how the new specialization work for spvp.

What is a Specialization besides new skills, new traits, and a new weapon?
Skills are bought with skill points.
Traits are unlocked through some event/map completion or can be bought with skill points and gold.
Weapon skills unlocked through use.
Will the new Specializations require skill points? Yes.
How many? Now, that is the real question.

Specializations should be long 10+ story-mode’esque quest chains we have to complete from our class trainer. They should send us out to find some long lost hero and along that quest we pick up some class specific item (Necromancer Greatsword, or some kind of god specific armor).
Once completing these quests we gain the ability to specialize and that hero then sends us off to ‘reforge’ the above mentioned item into some class specific legendary item. Also from a long, 10+ storymode’esque quest chain.
Why do it this way? I want to know the background of what a Druid is, why they fight the way they do, why they use the weapon they do, etc etc.
Perhaps once you’ve done it once you can pay to skip it for alternate classes so for an alt maybe you can buy each new skill and trait for gold or something. But the class specific reward can only be gotten from doing the quest.
