What is the "Heart of Thorns"?
Anet were just looking for something that could be abbreviated as “hot”.
I think it’s just a lot of colourful language. Heart refers to the center of the jungle; thorns is a plant-related term that indicates danger, aggression. I don’t think there is a literal heart of thorns, or even that it refers to Mordremoth himself. But if it has to mean something, I’m voting for Mordy.
personally i think it would be cool as a little easter egg point of interest or the name of the region/dungeon you find mordremoth in, also if the boss fight is handled via dungeon im begging that it doesn’t end up being another on the rails type fight, id prefer something more along the lines of the abbadon fight from nightfall, but on a much larger scale, possibly going inside mordremoth himself to finish the job
Technicly speaking the moment we step into the new areas we will be inside Mordremoth. When we jump into the breaches at the forts on the Silverwastes? That sticky-gooey cavern?
Consider that the giant vines are said to be the actual body of Mordremoth (Taimi says so in S2, around the waypoint dilemma). The vines tearing the Pact fleet apart were not just some vines, it was Mordy himself.
So yeah, the heart of thorns might actually refer to a place in the jungle (The jungle that is Mordremoth himself) where the dragon is somewhat vulnerable. A place where the flow of his power can be disrupted with a decicive blow, similar to a stroke, or if you will, similar to the cleansing of the orrian Artesian Wells.
I’ll wager a guess it has something more to do with Caithe and her turn from innocent to something much, much colder and crueler.
If I had to guess.
Mordremods bitter heart maybe? :-) I bet Mordemod will be a very Thorny Dragon btw

I agree. I never really thought it could signify much else. Interesting thoughts by the others though.
Maybe it refers to Sylvari having a “heart of thorns” – they can be corrupted?
Maybe even Trahearne?
It can’t get any more obvious…. The maguuma jungle = thorns. Heart of maguuma = region name. “Heart of thorns”… Come on, do we really need to explain this?
It’s the center of the Maguuma jungle, hence “heart”.
It’s thorns because thorns are Mordremoth’s main characteristic.

This is too literal for my tastes. Use your imagination.
While HoT is nice they should have gone with Game of Thorns, which abbreviates as GW2:GoT which is not bad either.
It refers to Rytlock’s heart, after his love Logan was lost when the Pact fleet went down.
