What's really wrong with HoT
im really interested on what you are smoking pm me
ok bby, I will
Just you going commando on a tree.
Say what?
ANet may give it to you.
The majority of the game involves you playing commander in a warzone. I know this is the expansion to Guild Wars 2, but it’s not a fantasy one. Did the queen even exist this time around?
And no, I did not purchase the Guild Wars 2 army uniform.
Have you done the story? Like at all?
If your goal was simply for a few other people to learn that you didn’t like the game, you succeeded. If you wanted anything else, well, you might want to try again.
I am not at all sure from your brief description what exactly it is that you think is “really wrong” nor what you would have preferred. Equally importantly, I’m not sure what you expect ANet to do about it.
tl;dr Sorry you don’t like the game.
I know immersion is a thing of the past, but there’s no fantasy. Just you going commando on a tree. The game sold out to fps fans.

Going commando means to be without underwear.

At any rate, your original post says you’re unhappy with the HoT but doesn’t give useful details or explanation.

I guess magical beings like the Exalted don’t qualify as fantasy. Who knew?

So, an air attack composed of humans, an intelligent feline race, an underground race that has been forced to the surface by dragon minions, a giant cold loving race that was pushed out of their northern homeland by a dragon and a sentient plant people who are unknown to them also dragon minions, which gets knocked out of the sky by an attack by a dragon isn’t a fantasy storyline?
The majority of the game involves you playing commander in a warzone.
Why can’t being a magic wielding commander in a dragon minion infested warzone which is also inhabited by intelligent, giant frogs and toads be a fantasy storyline?
Did the queen even exist this time around?
Yes, she does. Is the Queen supposed to leave her throne and lead the troops into battle instead of her military commanders? Why do you think she needs to be a major part of this story?
ANet may give it to you.

Because fantasy should involve magic, and my Iron Legion charr engineer will have none of it.
Granted, my sylvari elementalist did throw a lot of fireballs and lightning bolts when fighting his dragon father, at the behest of his tree spirit mother…

Well, that’s true. I did always think that flamethrower wielding cat people who can shoot bullets out of their belt buckle were too realistic for this game.

Did you not play any of Guild Wars 2? It’s always had a more “Trenches+Tanks” tech level.
Big lush jungles populated with gigantic trees aren’t fantasy. Big lush jungles populated with gigantic trees and all kind of dinosaur-like animals, multiple tribes of religious frogmen, sentient monster-plants connected through a hive mind and magic eating superbugs… those are fantasy at it’s finest.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

It’s not often a post makes me literally LOL, but that did it.
Thanks for the chuckle.

It’s not traditional fantasy, just gimmicks designed to keep you busy while you glide.

“It’s not traditional fantasy” pointed out as a con in a post complaining that there isn’t enough fantasy. Ok.
It should go without saying, considering the original Guild Wars 2 had real fantasy elements.

Exactly what is “traditional fantasy”? It just seems like you’re moving the goalposts.
HoT fans don’t know what traditional fantasy is, which is why it got away with being an fps.

And yet you cannot describe what is “traditional fantasy”. I reallly hope by “fps” you don’t mean first person shooter.

it seems you don’t know what traditional fantasy is either, seeing as you avoided the request to define it.

FPS? Obviously Guild Wars 2 is in the RTS genre if anything. Or Possibly a 4X. Or possibly you could try a little harder with your trolling.

It’s totally a tower defense. Was on VB last night, and was placing turrets everywhere to keep the mordrem at bay.
It should go without saying, considering the original Guild Wars 2 had real fantasy elements.
Where? Was it when we were invading the homeland of an Elder Dragon with a column of armored tanks? When we were repairing the steel aqueducts and mills powering the fields of Kryta? Maybe it was when we were defending Submarines and building helicopters in Ascalon! Or fighting in dragonscarred trenches beneath the thunder of howitzers, flak cannons, and other heavy artillary! And when we were shooting dragons out of the sky with giant lasers. And the armies of robots everywhere. And a whole fleet of airships killed an Elder Dragon that one time.
Guild Wars 2 is very much still a fantasy game, though. It just happens to exist in an era with more advanced technology.
Because fantasy should involve magic, and my Iron Legion charr engineer will have none of it.

True, I guess I could have also said a MOBA because of the lanes in Dragon’s Reach.

It should go without saying that the game had fantastic beasts and fantastic machines since launch. The Pact builds tanks and airships in the fight versus the risen. Visit Black Citadel, which is a monument to Tyrian mechanical technology or Rata Sum, a monument to non-mech tech.
You still haven’t explained your claim in the original post. It’s clear you think the game is missing something, but it’s unclear what you think it is.

Fantasy is a fiction genre set in an imaginary universe, often but not always without any locations, events, or people from the real world. Most fantasy uses magic or other supernatural elements as a main plot element, theme, or setting. Magic and magical creatures are common in many of these imaginary worlds.
How does gw2 not fit this definition?
It appears from what you’re saying that if there is technology the game cannot be fantasy. However technology is not something that’s only at the level of airships and guns. The ability to smelt metals to make a sword is technology. The ability to build cities is based on technology. It’s not the level of technology that makes a story not fantasy, it’s the level of fantasy in the story. A story with magic, races that can’t exist on Earth and story elements such as dragons and intelligent frogs make the gw2 story a fantasy story. Your argument is only based on you not liking the type of fantasy story that’s in the game. It is incorrect about whether or not the story is a fantasy.

Your technique isn’t bad; Not an entirely obvious approach, and you mix it up a bit. Your biggest problem is you are to hungry for the reaction. You have to let the last response hang for a bit to ripen. You post too quickly and that gives away your intention. I’d suggest studying from some of the masters like Ken M.

I would say I have psychic powers like Kasmeer Meade has, but that would make this post have a fantasy storyline.
