For the class you are interested in, name a few weapons that you don’t want for the specialization .

This a spin on the current topic of what weapons you do want.
Since we are told that future Specializations will come down the road, which may mean all weapons become available at some point.

So tell us what weapons interest you the least as a specialization for each class.

I think the biggest speculation for the Guard Spec is Longbow, and I do /not/ want that at all. There’s this part of my brain that just never sat well with heavy armoured classes using archery. A mage with a greatsword and plate armour? Sure, that’s awesome. A knight with a longbow? Nonononononon, leave that to the rogues! Give us a rifle, if you’re going to go with 2H ranged! :P

But I’m sure I’m alone in this.

except for thieves, of course.

Greatswords: i kinda got used to the necro greatsword by now, even if i wouldve preferred hammer or torch. but i really do hope it’s the only one. GW2 definitely doesnt need more greatswords

Shield: mainhand shield, no matter on which class

Rifle for guardian or ranger is what some people are hoping for and i hope we will never see taht.

Mesmer shield is awful aswell. Mainhand pistol wouldve been better imo

Nah man, longbow is my last pick for Guard spec as well. OK, maybe shortbow would be even worse, and obviously any offhands would be lame, but I think they’re doing main/2h only for specs.

I think axe would probably be my top pick for Guardian. Sword in offhand would be pretty cool, too, but with other classes getting full 5-skill options, I’d expect a little more than just that.

I was with you man, I originally thought rifle would be cool for a guardian but a bow makes more sense to the theme. I also like the short bow to switch it up from warrior, maybe get some extra speed attack from ranged?

I’m not a fan of a torch for warrior . How does one who does not specialize in magic use a torch in battle? Maybe a Sapper with gun powder or something? Get some extra burst and cc on the warrior. OK I’m starting to like it now…. I might be on to something.

I’m hoping there is dual weild daggers in the Warriors future. Making a dagger off hand would be ok too but warriors are supposed to be weapon specialists, dual welding weapons should be a must. They may save this for the next round of specializations Which would be cool With me.

I think to really be considered specialized you need 5 new weapon skills. That doesn’t mean new weapons though. What if you get new skills for one of your existing weapons like a mesmer sword skill will change to reflect is new specialization with your sheild.

Same here. I would prefer something preposterous like a main hand shield than a longbow (or shotbow, which would be even worse).

I also hope no one gets greatsword (other than the necromancers, which we know will get it). It’s one of the most overused weapons in the game. I hope revenants can’t use it, either.

i was a bit meh on the prospect of rifle as well, but only because people kept saying “sniper”. i’d much rather the rifle be the thief’s answer to range AoE, and maybe even support (the shortbow has a poison field and a blast finisher dispenser, but that’s about it).

At first I really wanted Longbow or Shortbow for my Guardian, but I think both of those would just end up as an alternative to Scepter as a world boss weapon. Axes would be more likely to shake up the meta, so I’ll say no to Longbow Guardian.

I also don’t think Warriors would mix well with pistol. Dual pistols sound cool, but I don’t think they’ll go well with the heavy armor.

Elementalists and rifle or shield. They both seem like they don’t fit the ranged caster feel of the Elementalist. Pistols I could understand because they’re smaller and feel more agile, but Rifles make me think of slow, big damage snipers, which doesn’t seem to be their theme.

Staff or scepter on warrior. Some people have thrown the idea around and I think it just sounds awful. I think they need a pistol, something with a pit of a pirate flare to it – a strong shot instead of engineer’s tweaking with it and thieve’s quickshots. I just don’t see what else you could give them other than a pistol or shortbow – because the other options just don’t sound reasonable. I’m hoping for pistol so I can pair it with warhorn, but I’m not too picky.

I also don’t want a melee weapon on guardian. I’d love to see them get more ranged options. Preferably I’d want them to get a longbow but in order to not trump scepter as the go-to ranged weapon for guardian, I feel like longbow should have a very defensive/cleansing feel to it.

I don’t want any off-hand weapon as a new weapon for any of the specializations. Since that’s only two new skills.

Saying something like this is just so plain unmature, because we all know, that Specializations WILL CHANGE the Gameplay Mechanics of a Class.

Only because a Specialization receives an Offhand Weapon and thus on first sight might receive a few new Weapon Skills lesser, than for example a Specialization, that received as new already existing Weapon a 2handed weapon with 5 Weapon Skills…

this has to mean absolutely NOTHING.
because you don’t know the other aspects that come together with the gameplay Mechanics from the changed Mechanics that are used via the F-Buttons.

One class, that might get via Off Hand Weapon “only” two new Weapon Skills on first sight receives in real maybe due to the changed Class Mechanics alot more new Weapon Skillls, than you may believe.

Take the Chronomancer as example …
Mesmers will receive with that just only the Shield as Offhand Weapon, which will be only 2 Skills on the first sight.
But Chronomancers won’t have the Shatter Mechanism anymore, but instead of that, and I’m nearly 100% sure about it, because it is just by logic the most fitting thing to give them instead of Shattering the ability of Time Mastery via the F-Buttons, being able to control that way via F1-F4 the Past, the Present, the Future and the Chaos, which defines Destiny as the ruler over all three Time Aspects.

Regarding to which Time Aspect the Chronomancer is synchronized to, it could change the Skills of the Chronomancers Weapon Skills, similar to how Elementalists functionize.
Just with the twist, that unlike an Elementalist, a Chronomancer doesn’t freely change its gameplay on will. A Chronomancer has to keep the “Balance”, because if he doesn’t stay in Balance, then Chaos will occur.

However, spoken in numbers this would then simply mean 2*4 = 8 different Chronomancer Skills from a Weapon, that on first sight would add just only 2 …

I hope, this opens your eyes so you may not forget, that there is alot more about Class and Gameplay Design, than just adding only new Weapons…

Plus – it means absolutely nothing, if certain Classes may receive just some more Skills, than others…

the Elementalist is since game Release by its Design the Class, which has the most Skills from all playable Classes, because everything they get will always automatically get multiplied by 4, because of the four elements that the Elementalists represent and embody with their playstyle and gameplay design

Did this ever disturb anyone here at all ? NO
Did ever cry anyone about it, that all other Classes need to receive as a counter more Weapon or Utility Skills, due to Elementalists having mathematicallyl the mostt Skills from all playable Classes, because otherwise it would be “unfair”
? NO

Anet will add to all Classes just that weapon, that will fit to the Specilization’s Gameplay Design the most, totally irrelvant, if that Weapon gives the player now just only 2, 3 or 5 new Weapon Skills to play with.
Accept this simple, but just true fact, and you will see, that there lies absolutely no problem with it, that each Classes Specialization will add different amounts of new skills per Classe, because the simple truth is, the game already started exactly like that from begin on – and Anet never did anythign at all until today to change this simple, but true fact by making all Classes equal on their amount of Weapon Skills.

I could go my whole lifetime without another profession using Sword or Greatsword and be perfectly happy. There are already too many professions that use those as it is. I get that swords are pretty much the most widespread and popular weapons ever, but that doesn’t mean everyone and their mothers needs to use them.

In particular, the ones thrown around most are Revenant using GS and Elementalist getting Sword. Do not want either.

Also, we know its not happening this time, but I don’t particularly care for Rifle Ranger. Mostly because the reason people want it is because “lol they’re called RANGErs, so they have to have every ranged weapon!”. Which I think is silly. Plus, Ranger already has two 2H ranged weapons, soon to be three with Staff (at least I’m assuming its going to be ranged). I don’t really see the need for a 4th. At least make it Pistol or Scepter so they have a second ranged 1H option (or better yet another melee since they’re lacking that more than range).

Depends how they make the bow.

If they make it a very support ish then ya I agree with you. We have a ton of support skills anyway.

However if they make it very offensive with a good bit of crowd control then the bow could fit nicely & fill a needed gap.

As for fitting it in lore wise. They could just say some refugees from Cantha showed up and brought some lost eastern style monk bow skills with them.

Weapons I don’t want to see with in Combination:

Warrior: Scepter, Pistol, Staff, Focus, Dagger
Guardian: Rifle, Dagger
Necromancer: Rifle, Pistol, Shortbow, Longbow, Hammer
Mesmer: Shortbow, Longbow, Hammer
Elementalist: Rifle, Pistol, Longbow, Hammer, Mace
Engineer: Greatsword, Sword, Longbow, Shortbow, Staff, Scepter, Focus, Dagger
Ranger: Hammer, Rifle, Pistol
Thief: Hammer, Greatword, Rifle, Scepter, Focus

Classes need to stay trustworthy. That they can be only, if they also wield only weapons, that do absolutely fit 100% to the style and the theme of a class
If a Weapon doesn’t fit to the style and the theme of a class to 100% at the same time, then its a Weapon, that shouldn#t been seen in use for a certain Class in Combo.

Best example for this is the Thieves Longbow or Rifle debate.

A Longbow does fit to the style and the theme of a thief, the silent assailants that snipe their targets from far away from stealth.

A Rifle compared to a Longbow does only fit to the theme of the Thief. enabling them to get played out as snipers, but it absolutely fits in no way to the style of this classes gameplay design, which is being silence and stealth….

Thats also by Pistols, which are loud weapons give you no stealth and there have anyways also too short range for the job as a sniping weapon from far away.
A Longbow there instead fits perfectly, it provides the needed range, its a silent weapon, unlike pistols or even far more so like rifles.
As a silent infiltrator, you want to stay unseen always, there you don#t run around with a freaking noisy rifle >.>
You use the best silent huntign weapon, that exists that can provide you the range, that you need as an Infiltrator hint hint to defeat your opponents from safe range unseen and un*heard*

Sorry, if it sounded offensive, maybe unmature was in context just the wrong word here…

Exchange it maybe with words like irrationale, superficial or simply “wrong”.

No hard feelings

I really don’t want Greatsword for my Necromancer. I get that some people might have characters who suit GS, but my Necromancer doesn’t suit it, at all.

No axes. I don’t like the aesthetic of axes, they’re like a more cumbersome version of a sword, mixed with a dagger, that only moves in one direction, and doesn’t stab.

Staff ranger. I dislike the fact that ArenaNet immediately thinks everybody’s Ranger is a hippy who spends their time practising nature magic, and methodically planning the best way to violate plants. I won’t even specialize my Ranger, because I dislike the theme of the druid so much and it’s staff. Some people like to design characters outside of the cookie cutter generic stereotypical version of each profession.

I don’t the ele’s to have a Bow………… they have one already, beside from other special weapons….. I think we should become weapon masters and have a build that supports close and long ranged combat ………………we are either too glassy or to much heal and no power or support for our class as an ele its hard to compete with a mesmer or necro maybe if we had more minions or we could vanish something we are complicated but dont have any really Good skills to make us really feared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry for spelling era’s just want to be heard! double swords or pistols would be nice!! IM SICK AND TIRED OF BEING THE SIDEKICK IN A TEAM I WANT TO BE AN ELEMENTAL HERO!!!!!! all we do is support.

am I the only one that wants to see a bow being used in melee? if we can have a GS and a hammer being used in range, why not?

I think axe would probably be my top pick for Guardian. Sword in offhand would be pretty cool, too, but with other classes getting full 5-skill options, I’d expect a little more than just that.

I totally forgot about the axe! Yes, I want that, give me that!

And (jokes aside) I don’t think that’ll ever happen. You can throw a GS/Hammer (or channel magic through it) to do relative damage, smacking someone over the head with a bow wouldn’t be nearly as effective. It’d hurt, but it’s nothing a mace (or a quarterstaff) couldn’t do. Which, speaking of… Give us dem melee staves, ANet.

be more creative than smacking people with a bow. it could be a close quarters, wide angle magic weapon, sorta like guardian staff.

I don’t want any off-hand weapon as a new weapon for any of the specializations. Since that’s only two new skills.

I do hope that specialisation will always come with five skills either as a main hands+off hands or a 2hands weapons but I may be wrong.

To stay on topic; I don’t want rifle for gard.
I would rather go for longbow (azureflame incoming).

Best example for this is the Thieves Longbow or Rifle debate.

A Longbow does fit to the style and the theme of a thief, the silent assailants that snipe their targets from far away from stealth.

Isn’t that what snipers with rifles do as well?

A Rifle compared to a Longbow does only fit to the theme of the Thief. enabling them to get played out as snipers, but it absolutely fits in no way to the style of this classes gameplay design, which is being silence and stealth….

Ninjas used firearms and explosives (whether they be bombs or arrows), and they were all about infiltration and staying hidden. Just something to think about.

Given how GW2 is a media, I’m pretty sure that they could create sound effects that produce quieter sounds for the Thief if they were to use a rifle.

Heck, there are already a few skins in game that could be construed as sniper rifles (and before anyone says anything: yes, I’m fully aware that a suppressor doesn’t actually silence the gun to the amount shown in films).

Life is a journey.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

- no bows for guard (axe/offhandsword/rifle please!)
- no scepter / focus for warrior (melee staff maybe? offhand dagger?)
- no mace / hammer / scepter / focus / staff / longbow for thief
- well, engi gets hammer..and only other weapon that may fit someday later seems to be mace
- ranger gets staff..not sure how to feel about that. for sure no pistols / scepter / focus / hammer / mace
- no mace / hammer / rifle for ele
- no mace / hammer / bows for mesmer
- necro gets gs…well, for sure hammer wouldnt fit it

and no more greatsword. its already on 4 classes, 5th getting it now…please, stop that

I must admit I have decided not to main my Mesmer any more due to the fact their spec is getting shields.

Shields.
How lame is that?

I am playing my thief mostly right now I’d dump it too if they were to get something lame like a sceptre or focus.

can they? ‘cause i thought they could, then i looked up on the wiki and there’s no reference of it, so i figured it was scrapped.

I dont know where it was, but this is definitely a thing.

At least some rocks somewhere in tyria can be picked up and used for a special fire spell as an elementalist

edit: nvm, found it:

Warrior: Duel wielding Rifle (The Boss)
Elementalist: Duel Wielding Staff ( The Magician)
