Three hours from now it will still be Monday, April 27, 5 pm ANet time. The portals don’t drop until April 28, per the news post. And at that, it seems likely they will begin after a new build shows up.

Now that’s dedication!

I would like after daily reset, but that’s not how ANet normally rolls. So I would guess after “normal” patch time. But yeah a time would have been nice. To say the 28th, they might as well have said “Soon”

Just to be sure : the portal drop starts on 28th april… Is it only available on april 28th, or will it last for several days/weeks?

It would … except nothing in the announcement says the newsletter is the way in for anyone. The first one needed the newsletter, the Stronghold one was open to everyone, this one requires getting the drop while playing the game. At least as I read it.

Which should be in about 17-18 hours.

I think the problem is not people being able to read but the fact they have just given a date with no time or rough time.

Its already Tuesday 28th for many people.

whenever info is given a start date with no time or rough times for different timezones the forums are always plastered with these posts.

But I assume there will be a patch before the event starts which normally hit around 8pm-9pm uk time

Meanwhile, at least if one drops in DT/SW you know you got in, rather than hoping an email will come later.

I can read quite well thank you. But its the 28th here, but also not past the daily reset, as that will happen at 1am for me. Also saying the 28th could me it could start at any point in that 24 hour period. As much as I want to get in to the next beta, I like many other people have other things to do. And I would like to maximize my time and chances of getting one. Also they did not say if it would be for that day only, or if it would last a few days. ANet might have well just said “soon” or when we are ready at some point on the 28th.

Yeah. It’s unclear (that’s an ANet professional Elite skill). My guess there will be an update on Tues the 28th to put the portals in the game and it will start at that time.

Now, don’t ask when the update is or when the event ends as that’s shrouded by the Mists.

April 28th will begin at one of the following:

• Midnight ANet time (UTC-7, i.e. about 0700 UTC)
• Server time (which UTC-0, about 40 min from this post), i.e. at reset.
• ANet business hours (~ 9 am Seattle time or 4 pm UTC)

I keep wondering when someone in public relations is going to remember that they have an international player base and stop forgetting to include the time zone in their start/stop times.

There’s always a kitten saying “it’s already the day here”.

Remember that the april fools airplane pilot thing ran on GMT which means the portals might be live now… and done tomorrow at 5pm pst….

I actually think these portals are lootable items, not an actual portal like mesmer portals.

That gives me the assumption that the beta isn’t tomorrow, but you loot the item and use it when beta goes live. Maybe to bring your current characters into the beta?

But, as someone else above you said, the most recent April Fools event started based on GMT/UTC, which crosses through Europe, and doesn’t even touch North America. So how do you know that that will be the case?

EDIT: Also, you do realize that North America, and more specifically even the United States of America, encompasses four separate time zones, right? There is no “American Time Zone.” The four time zones in America are Pacific Time, Mountain Time, Central Time, and Eastern Time, with a prefix of Standard or Daylight depending on whether its currently Daylight Savings Time or not. (e.g. Eastern Standard Time vs. Eastern Daylight Time.)

Well, there are a couple more time zones in the US. Alaska (-9) and Hawaii (-10).

But, usually, when ArenaNet talks about dates/time, they are referring to Pacific Time. Usually.

If I had to guess the portals will start to drop after midnight PST time, there most likely will be a small patch to add them to the drop tables. No matter where you live in the world Anet alway refers to the point in time to the location of there business in Redmond Washinton USA. So if it’s already the 28th in the part of the world you live in, then do the math to get their time to your time, use a time zone app on your phone, or look it up on the web, but it’s not going to happen any faster so live with it.

The portals had to be added to the mobs loot tables. So unless they were added in a previous update, then they aren’t added yet and will have to be added in an update.

Imo, they haven’t been added yet, so they won’t start dropping until after the update tomorrow.
