Where does experience go?
Well the experience is going towards which ever mastery you are currently leveling
…
The question was where does your experience go when the bar is full. It does not go into the next tier.
if you need 10k xp to fill the bar and get 26k xp from an event ye what happens to that 16k xp? looks to me like its wasted
When the bar is full you earn a mastery point which you spend.
Then you select a new mastery so the game knows what you want to level up next.
and when you select that new mastery even if its on the same track the excess xp from the last mastery does not get added it just vanishes. and in such a grindy system thats a disgrace.
Straylight, you don’t earn mastery points by filling the bar. Really need an answer from someone who understands the system. At least Eldrin gets what I’m asking…
Pretty simple question…but I can’t figure it out.
When your experience bar fills up, but you haven’t yet spent the mastery points, where does the experience you earn go?
Please tell me it’s not just lost… that would be horrible, Anet. Sometimes people might go quite a while before noticing that their bar filled up. I don’t think it’s fun game play to stare at my bar all the time trying to avoid lost experience.
I thought it might go to the next tier in the same mastery line, but it seems it does not. Where does it go?
When this happens, switch to a different Mastery Line and go hunting for the nearest Mastery Points, so you can train the others.
The XP will mysteriously disappear, and it’s very frustrating. It is also frustrating since it isn’t very visible when you complete it, ie it doesn’t draw attention to itself. So when we were doing the tyria ones we missed out a few times taht we had completed it.

You’re dumb. You’ll die, and you’ll leave a dumb corpse
If you forget to spend your mastery point and select a new line than excess xp doesn’t go anywhere. It’s your job as a player not to forget it and keep track of your xp-bar.
good luck & have fun

Yes but thats not what the OP is asking if they are 20% from toping of then continue doing stuff only to notice that bar is full after doing 35%.
From what I seen its sadly wasted OP
Answer: it is wasted.
xp is just players time and Anet have no problem with wasting that. they gave us 5 mill xp to grind for the itzel poison mastery then after me and probably lots of other players spend hours grinding out the xp they change it. At the moment i can only think of one word to some up how i feel DISGUSTED.
If it is actually lost… that is horrible, cheap, and lame game design. ArenaNet should be ashamed of creating time sinks like that.
Yet another way they’ve kicked dirt on the original design philosophy… now you absolutely do have to stare at the UI instead of the game world…otherwise you’re punished with even more grind.
When you max out the XP bar (for the first time) the game tells you to select a mastery trait otherwise the experience will be lost.
What happens in sPVP if you have a one-time only track selected which fills up, and you forget to select a new track?

It Auto-selects a new track for you.

In pve if you do not select a new track then yes it is lost.

Horrible, Anet. For shame.
It would be so simple to have it auto-select the next tier in the same line. Please fix this.
That’s strange – it’s been automatically sending extra xp to another mastery for me. I have some progress in three different mastery tracks I don’t even want to work on yet because of it.
Same thing for any normal experience you gain in WvW, not applied to any mastery track unfortunately.
I feel like I’ve gained all sorts of experience from various sources since HoT dropped that have been wasted in various forms.

I haven’t noticed that happening…but if it is, that’s still not great. Why wouldn’t it at least send the extra exp to the next tier in the line you actually selected? If it’s just spreading it at random, it’s still pretty much wasted.
