Q:
Where to buy HoT in Canada/CAD?
A:
There are no official retailers in Canada. EBGames was the official retailer, but for whatever reason, they were dropped. I’m guessing they wouldn’t agree on a price due to the exchange rate.
If you want to wait, the physical standard edition (not for pre-purchase) will be available after launch. Any retailer will be capable of obtaining those, but that doesn’t guarantee any Canadian retailers will.
You will not be charged tax when buying from ArenaNet (may depend on the province).
I also live in Canada and their is no other source that sells the game (legally that is) aside from the official website. I also paid the full $66 for the expansion, but that’s how it goes when it comes to conversion rates.
The lack of Canadian retailers for this right now is kind of ridiculous. :/
Until recently I didn’t have a credit card and using paypal in Canada from a bank account is pretty much the worst thing (Off the top of my head, I’m not even sure if you can Paypal things from the gemstore),
I imagine there are people out there literally (figuratively) barred off from purchasing Heart of Thorns at all if they’re bottlenecked into buying it digitally, not even considering the exchange rate which is also kinda dumb right now.
Just remember life comes before entertainment.
That being said a business is a business if guild wars 2 is not profitable for them, then they will obviously avoid stocking the expansion. For Exchange rates if you look up at the TSX they are reporting the CAD to drop even more so if you want it buy it now. Might be a year or two before the CAD gets closer to the USD.
As well not sure if this is true or not since it’s on the wiki which can be edited, but it did say that HoT will be sold for 2,400 gems. I’ll leave the link at the bottom for you all to check out I have a feeling it’s wrong though.
Hopefully any of this or even just some of this helps you all.

Wow,
The wording on that is super ambiguous, haha.
That’s just the HoT version of the already-existant Digital Deluxe Upgrade option in the gem store.
Note on the wiki it says it requires HoT Standard
EDIT: To add, pretty sure Anet’s explicitly stated they won’t sell HoT for gems. Not gonna find the quote, just putting it out there~

Well I guess the bright side to it all is you could buy the standard edition for $49.99 ($66.25) and then grind 2,400 gems to upgrade after it’s release. Other then that wait it out, they forecast it’s only going to drop more so we’ll see how.

this is a good move and at lest it will not cost so much . and iam looking at this sounds like a good deal to me. and maybe the best real money saver too
I’m also pretty sure they stated it won’t be available with gems. As for EBgames, they won’t carry it due to the exchange rate, you can’t really blame them or Anet for that matter. Sadly it’s either buy it now for $66 or wait and hope the dollar goes up (which it’s not suppose to any time soon). $66 might actually be the cheapest option for the next while.
Thanks for the replies. I’m extremely disappointed in Anet. Is there a source for EBGames not carrying it because of the exchange rate?

Game stores in Canada carry the same games they do in the USA (usually minus the Collector’s Editions) which includes many worse games, I don’t see any reason for them not to carry it other than Anet not making any deals with them. If Anet doesn’t want Canadians as customers then they won’t be getting me as a customer.
Unfortunately, as I stated in my post, buying it now isn’t an option for me. Even if it was the price is ridiculously high for an expansion.
And as previously stated, it won’t be for sale with gems.
Oh well, I’ve got hundreds of other games to play and a number of them are better games anyway. Hopefully it gets a good discount on GMG.com or something sooner rather than later.
Hopefully if you miss any of LS s3 they won’t make you have to buy those episodes separately as well, LS 1&2 episodes were mostly pretty poor quality.
