Hello all!

So as most know there has been quite the controversy over the pre-purchase details of Heart of Thorns. I understand what Anet is trying to do with the pre-purchase and helping new players experience the core and expansion games, but I also get what the Guild Wars Vets are saying. I myself, pre-ordered gw2 back before it came out and have played it since, being loyal and love it.

I have already obtained my spot in HoT because I would pay the price even without the core game included because I feel I can rely on the content being worth it. Though, as a vet I’m like “So even though I bought the core game a long time ago I don’t get like a small discount or extra items or something?”, but it doesn’t bother me that much.

The point of this article is to not express opinions by a vet for other vets, but as a vet for new players. I have some friends who have recently bought the core game after hearing about the expansion and have grown to love the game since then while waiting for HoT. I think those new players who got attracted by HoT and got the game early now have to pay for both. And I know that some of those people got the discounted core game for like $10, but some didn’t and bought it for the normal 40 or 50 (can’t remember exact).

So my solution is that people who bought the game for normal or discount price since HoT announcement (or at least 2 to 3 months back when more info was around) should get a bigger discount because it was HoT that brought them here and it sucks that if they waited a couple months to play a game that excited them, they would have had an unknown advantage. Though best case scenario would be that vets get this boost too.

Thanks for listening!! And let’s try to be civil here fellow players!

~Also this is just me, but I was really hoping for some sort of real world item like a revenant Rytlock figure from one of the pre-purchases because I didn’t get the figure when the core game came out and now I wish I had something to remember gw2 when it slows down or if I can’t play as much as I wished, but I don’t want to get any of the current figures out there. So maybe that’s my fault, but just wanted to throw that out there

While I agree with you and do feel bad for the newer players that had just been brought back at hearing the expansion. Giving a discount will make others feel that they are …entitled? (for lack of a better word.) to a discount also. The issue I see with this is the way they are marketing it. “Hey, Gw2 Core is free now!” yet no less than a few months or so people payed up to $40 for the game. I’m not saying HoT is not worth $50, i cant judge that since i have not played it yet. But it feels like they are pumping the price by claiming Core is useless now almost, despite it’s price tag still. I just feel like this whole Kitten storm could have been avoid by leaving core as is and then selling expansion separate, instead of devaluing what people already bought.

It really is the wrong word. All this talk of “gamer entitlement” is ridiculous. Fanboys and U.S. political panderers trot this word out every time they disagree with someone who’s complaining about the status quo. Do any of these people actually know what entitlement means? Do they understand that people are entitled to complain? Do they understand that the self-righteous indignation that causes them to lash out at consumer complaints is really just arrogant narcissism?

Nope. Sorry. New players have all new character slots to fill and bank tabs. Vet players don’t get one character slot for $50.

Blackgate Native. It takes tremendous strength and skill to pull a lever.

I see what you’re all saying (except Spurnshadow because the problem isn’t character slots and banks tabs for this specific forum post) and I personally don’t care if the core game is included or not, but I just wanted the view of the new players to be heard as such and not just the vets.

Cause I feel the expansion is worth the 50+ regardless and depending on how it goes will determine how I feel about future expansions. I just think there needs to more communication about this kind of thing for Anet, old players, and the new.

^^ This. The purchasing incentives are imbalanced, and the product does not equate to the $50 base price. Anet better have something amazing tucked away in HoT to ask for the price of a core game.

Anet ripped us all of. Plain and simple. Those who defending them are the problems of today’s society and will submit to any dictator. They are the same reasons why our society are falling behind to the “dragon” country.

Also I have to agree with most of what WP says in his video about all of this and that communication and intended ideas could have been better from both parties and that maybe the price itself is the main issue. I think WP gets both sides of the coin so I will be linking the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUtMGS3ezLI

Just take this as a warning sign and wait to see what the expansion is before giving them your money. I didn’t even know about the controversies with the expansion when I first looked at the price (haven’t played in a while), and I thought the price was way too high for an expansion. You can buy new AAA games for that price.
