Well, the Halloween event is only for a couple weeks and then it’s gone till next year. HoT will be permanent and be here forever.
So no reason to rush into HoT right away, seeing as it will always be there. Unlike Halloween which is temporary.
The way I see it is, would you rather rush into HoT and have to deal with all the brand new expansion bugs and glitches? OR would you rather just have some fun, kick back and enjoy some good ol’ Halloween fun for a couple weeks, giving them time to work out some of the kinks in HoT, and some much needed downtime for yourself before you start on HoT?
I’d personally rather just have some fun for once doing Halloween stuff, and then get to HoT later after a few patches have been released (because there is going to be a lot in those two weeks lol).
Plus it helps lighten the load on launch as well. You’ll still get those who want to be the firsts into HoT, but it won’t be as much as expected with Halloween at the same time. So it will nicely split the playerbase, easing the overload on HoT for a couple weeks.

(assuming ofc that the vets don’t wine to much that its no new content for years and scare them off)
I would say highly unlikely, though there is that chance.
The good news is that many veterans have been waiting for Shadow of the Mad King to return since the Ascent to Madness dungeon was so much fun! Blood & Madness was / is fun also. It just never felt like a true guild wars 2 Halloween with out Mad King Thorn not only joking us to death, but beating us to a pulp or tossing us off cliffs. So yeah, R E A L L Y excited about Shadow of Mad King and Ascent to Madness making a return.

I totally agree, Chrono. Basically, I can run with the new content alongside everyone else, or I can go knock myself out on Halloween stuff I’ve done multiple times before, and then hope that enough people are still slogging through the lower reaches of the new content to help me along comfortably. Well – I run lots of alts, so at minimum the candy corn is always useful to kit them all out with bigger bags – but in all honesty I doubt that’s what I’ll do. Not least – that also means lots of alts that, potentially, I’m likely to want to “level up” (or whatever the accurate term is, in context) through the new content. On the face of it, it seems an unfortunate choice of dates. (Although, just maybe, enough people will go do Halloween stuff first, that the new content will stay healthy and active for longer. I guess we’ll see soon enough.)
Oh, and it may seem perverse, but apart from rolling one revenant on ethe first one and playing for about 20 minutes I deliberately haven’t taken part in the beta weekends. That feels too much like spoilers; I want to start on the new content from scratch. Another reason, probably, to pass on the Mad King this year.

Halloween stuff is mainly a repeat of previous years. Nothing wrong with that, as its nice to revisit that.
I personally do a bit of halloween, then switch to other stuff when I get bored of it. And I don’t plan on running through HOT anyway, so plenty of time play that when I want.
For those of us who don’t have a big pile of tomes, running the Halloween event for fun, loot, and experience on newly minted Revenants is a pretty sweet deal. I’ll probably alternate being in there running around and praying for a scythe skin that I’ll foolishly use for myself rather than sell right up until the end. Scythe skin is a horribly impractical weapon from any real viewpoint, but I think it would look pretty cool on the Daredevil, >_>
Actually there are a ton of free to play players that won’t have HoT at all. Some older players have never bought HoT. It gives those players something to do while we explore new areas, and gives us a chance to get some trick or treat bags if that’s what we choose to do.
Most of my guild is going to focus on Halloween first, and then jump into HoT after.
First, F2P and newer players need something to do.
Second, skipping out on the raw buggy-ness of the HoT maps for a few weeks might be a good idea even without a festival to amuse us.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Simply, it is because they can. I hope you will enjoy boths.

Don’t forget that you can get a lot of experience doing all the Halloween stuff. You’ll need a lot of it for tyria masteries so it is a good way to do the temp stuff and work on your masteries at the same time.
I’ll (try to) get Dragonhunter and then do Halloween stuff.
Then ill be doing and old event (this halloween event is the best) with a new content!
Do halloween first. Let people try HoT, find all the bugs and report them, and give time to the devs to fix the huge amount of problems there will be with the expac at launch.
When the two weeks are over, jump to a improved and polished HoT experience.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

I’m doing Halloween first. Not only will HoT be waiting for me afterwards (and hopefully most of the bugs will be fixed by then) but think of all that sweet, sweet exp going towards painlessly progressing your Tyrian Masteries. I plan to pop as many exp boosts as I can and farm, farm, farm to get a decent chunk of Mastery progressions done before I head out to HoT. If they had Halloween before then all that exp on your level 80 would have completely gone to waste.
ANet may give it to you.
By doing it this way you minimize people in HOT right away. That means they have time to roll out patches.
I am sure there will be some sort of tie-in event that will ‘explain’ it.
Two major releases in one day, I wonder what possible could go wrong??

As a WvW player dungeons are not something I do, but that dungeon was one that I did over and over again. It was super fun, and I am indeed looking forward to it.
