Why don't you add character voice variants?

Hi. Anet and Forum
First, I apologize that it might be a frivolous wish for most players.
but i really want “Character Voice Variants” in the game just like “make over”, “outfits”.
I do not mean the current character voices are not good.
But, GW2 has unique skills just like “Shouts” and we sometimes play each other without TS.
Role Playing is one of a playing style of the game and especially in the MMO, we sometimes uses characters as an avatar of ourselves.
I often recognize this effect in the story mode. I really want to go into more Tyria with my avatars.

Probably because that’s way too much work

There’s already a huge cost associated with voice acting.
Single player RPG’s can often afford to get all of the lines for main characters done by 3 or 4 voice actors because a) the main character often doesn’t actually have a ton of lines, and/or b) all of the voice acting is one off. Once the game is out they don’t need to worry about being able to book those voice actors in to do more content or being able to afford it.
Anet has already had a lot of trouble getting voice actors back due to scheduling problems, which is why Destiny’s Edge weren’t very present in LS S1/most of S2. It’s not monetarily feasible for them to get the personal character voiced that many times – considering they already have 5 races with male and female voices for both.

I understand that it would cost a bit more money, but if players are willing to pay for it with gems I think it would be worth the investment. I for one would be all over this. I’m tired of my female norn sounding like some sort of angry cave troll – especially with the groaning when she falls. Give me just one extra voice option for each gender/race and I’ll be happy.

I second this. Even just a second voice option for each race and its two genders would be great. Set it at 400 gems and I’d buy it. Two new voice options for each gender and you can just take my money, ANet.
I know it’s money for ANet to spend on voice actors, but I could go for it too. I’m always looking for a new way to get new character customization shinies

It’s not feasible to sell voice packs on the gem store because there’s no way of knowing how much it will actually cost them to maintain the multiple VAs for future released content. Would you be so excited to buy that new voice if you had to pay again to have it in living story content and future expansions?

I turned off voices for my game. Human female voice is obnoxious.
Sylvari though. Amazing voice actress <3
I wish we had some choices. When I use “Retreat” on my female human guard it’s like . . . Calm down lady it’s gunna be alright. ;_;

I’d say there’s the same risk for the current/vanilla VA they have. I’m no game dev, but I feel like they could anticipate the additional cost of hiring that additional VA again and incorporate it into the initial gem store fee. And lol yes @CandyHearts.6025, that female human guardian really does need to calm her pants ^.^

It depends what the OP is asking for.
If all you want is more options for a deeper or higher pitched voice then that’s easily done in any sound editor. If you want someone that actually talks differently then you need another VA and that’s an expensive headache. The first idea is very feasible and fairly cheap for Anet to do and I think it would be a good luxury item for the gem store.

Honestly, I’d be fine with either one. I don’t care if they hire a new VA or just make a pitch slider. Just please do something, ANet.

You’ll note that games that offer alternate voice sets for characters either have very few spoken lines or are utterly terrible in quality. The only reasonable way GW2 can offer alternate voice sets is with pitch and timbre sliders, but obviously it can’t do anything about the accent.
Maybe one day a developer will finally deliver that natural text-to-speech synthesizer that was supposedly in development over ten years ago. One can always hope.

Anet could add a voice tuning slide bar to tune the voice up and down during character creation.
I found this feature in many other games some years ago already. The slide bar can tune the same actor voice to sound more mature or young, and i think we need this feature seriously.
I made a suggestion a long time ago on the now closed sound section, about how A-net could use the (now pointless) personality choice of the character creation to make the character speak different lines during gameplay.
