the cost was always going to be higher than MMOs with sub fees

since charging for subs and expansions both is a huge ripoff

peopl’ll pay $150+60 to play an MMO for a year, but balk at at kitten expansion to gw2.

edit – why is " $ 5 0 " censored? lol

what that means is that they value the game time greater.
I havent played gw2 consistently for 6? 7? months im really not sure.
monthly fees only occur while you are playing the game, and are pay as you go.
I played ffxiv for a month or two, and you get what you pay for, access to everything, new dungeons, raids, less grind (yes it was way less grind than gw2) Stopped playing cause a core member of our friends went on an 8 month away navy tour, but i dont regret the time i played at all.

essentially, would you rather pay 15 a month for fun, or pay nothing for boredom.

Now, at one point gw2 was fun and exciting, but they havent done great job expanding the game and adding interesting replayable content. Many were hoping this expansion would be that, but right now it seems pretty light, and not substantial or polished. It also has one of the highest expansion costs in the buisness, but delivers less in the box.

Also, they need to let the sylvari go.
season one was the introduction of the sylvari crazy
season two was the secret of the sylvari race
season three is the battle with the sylvari god

5 races, and we still obsessing over the same culture. Move on. They got 4 other races, and new cultures, climates, etc.

I have not seen anything worth $50-$100. The LS seasons were below average at best and were FREE, and never worth paying for. This feels like a $20 upgrade so $50 is way too high. It’s going to be buggy for six months and it really feels like this is all seed money for another game expansion coming in three years now that their update model has changed. I’ll wait til the dust settles and see then what it’s really worth. Meanwhile all the rest of you can play with bugs.

Too much money for the amount of content it provides. The base game offered a lot and costed less. If the price was like the base game, I’d buy it

I haven’t bought Expansion yet, because 50 € feels bit too much just for expansion and I rather play Dragon Nest, Warframe and WoW at this moment.

  • In WoW I can harvest enough gold to buy token and I don’t need pay subs anymore.
  • Dragon Nest is fun action based game what you really can call A Game with fun. And it is F2P and all expansions are free.
  • Warframe is fun action based game where you really feel freedom of movement and when you are jumping, you really are jumping, not just hopping as in GW2. And most of all it is F2P and all expansions are free.

Well this HoT Expansion is not bringing anything new aspects to the game at this point. All professions are as clumsy as they have been from the start of the game. Revenant is not bringing anything new to the game. So Guild Wars 2 and HoT are like bones which are scoured to blank and do not shed anything new element of fun from them.

So I rather wait and hope that I am wrong and maybe I will buy HoT later on discount.

I’ve already bought the expansion.

I’m posting because I am having a lot of difficulty convincing friends to do the same.

As a friend said just last evening, “I played Dark Age of Camelot all the way to ToA (Trials of Atlantis). You know what I liked about it? Level 50 remained the maximum level from release to the very present day. That’s 14 years of good solid gameplay. Each expansion was about content. It was about exploring vast worlds as large or ever larger than the original game. Player Crafted armor was how you got your armor, from Legendary Crafters and not Legendary Armor only found in an instance. You’re not selling me that this new content can be anything good. All you’re telling me is Guild Wars 2 is swinging into World of Warcraft territory with armor ceilings locking players out of content and content we’ll not be able to play because it was only made for those players who have it own their schedule to play this game. The master levels are just more levels tacked onto an already excessively high level cap. I want to be able to explore the world, camp a few creatures like Knights used to be in Darkness Falls. I want to walk out into a forest full of Ironwood trees not realizing they are aggressive mobs.”

He went on like this for some time. He wasn’t pleased with the new player experience because it lead to his wife coming to hate the game just as she was getting into it. I think the bottom line is that, for most people the “you’re locked out of content until…” model for making games is just dead. Everyone’s lived through it if you’ve played an MMO and it’s really just an excuse to keep someone playing. Ironically it seems to have the opposite effect. I can’t count how many times girl friends won’t join an MMO at all simply because of the hours and hours and hours they’d have to dump into the leveling process before they reach any sort of content.

I think what players are looking for now is more exploration, more Zelda style content, more vistas and exploration and generally more abilities that sync with using their “brain thing” instead of "press a button, any button, and eventually ‘win’ will happen.

If all of this seems bias and doesn’t really match up with what Guild Wars 2 is I wholly agree, but MMOs have always been abusive of players’ time. They’re designers are usually willing to blow off a huge portion of their subscribers to favor some rare few they’ve christened as the fair haired child. I think lately, with the economy so bad in real life, people really can’t tolerate wasting their time. Either something delivers on the content they are into or they’re just not even going to spare the time to be convinced they’ve not got the whole picture.

Tell your friend that mastery levels are like rvr levels from daoc but for pve instead of pvp.

and then his 50 was max level goes out the window since a fresh 50 was nothing against a veteran rvr guy. ( I had 8-9 50s in that game but my computer couldent handle the large scale fight so hardly any rvr lvls)

Price is too high for an expac, and it doesn’t even include a character slot for the new class being added. That’s just appalling IMO.

Also Tempest sucks. Anet’s unwillingness to change it despite it being hated by nearly everyone ticks me right off as well.

Quality & customer appeasement are a distant backseat to extracting $$$.

I’m seeing it get further and further away from what I liked about GW2 in all honesty.

The company has changed a lot since it’s GW1 days.

Colin J and Mike O are still there but 2 of the ANet founders have left amongst others so I’m cautious of where GW2 is heading but not panicking yet.

I have bought the expansion, I still enjoy GW2’s basic gameplay enough to do that. That said I do have concerns about how little playable content seems to be coming with the launch of the expansion. There are no new dungeons, no new fractals, no new pve guild missions, the pvp and wvw guild missions mostly seem to be the current “dailies” you do with your guild.

What we seem to be getting is a bunch of system changes (changing how fractals work, how you access guild missions, adding new mastery XP bars to replace our current XP bars), 4 maps and an unknown amount of new story content. The raid won’t even be out at launch. Probably a good idea giving how buggy and unstable things seem to be right now. The new profession and elite specs are interesting but if there isn’t sufficient new content to go with it they’ll fall pretty flat, for me.

There are also new additions and changes to PvP and WvW but as those are being added to the base game they’re not much of a selling point for HoT.

Time and their post-release schedule will tell if I misplaced my trust in ArenaNet.

Because the expansion is basically an overpriced DLC with poor Quality Control.

Really. The few pieces of content we have seen were massively bugged; not only that, but the bugs are actually increasing as we get closer to release. Wasn’t it supposed to be the other way around? Yet here we are, with something so small as mob difficulty being bugged in the entire beta map.

keep in mind you are paying for future updates too that could be for 3 next years, not just things that have been announced and available on day 1.

Funny. When ArenaNet says they will do something and then don’t do it, people scream “it wasn’t a promise, just something they said they would do but didn’t! It wasn’t their fault!”.

And then people turn around and say, “Buy the very overpriced DLC because ArenaNet promised it will come with a vague amount of new content over a vague period of time! It’s definitely worth it!”.

Right. Completely logical.

Bugs haven’t been increasing. In the first beta the major quest chains were bugged. I played through all the quest chains more than once in the current beta and none of them were bugged.

The fact that we’re seeing a different area and getting different bugs has nothing to do with more bugs.

I’d be interested in seeing where you get this “more bug” thing. For all you know, most of the original reported bugs have been fixed. We can’t really know that because we’re in a different area.

None of the specializations interest me, had high hopes for druid (as I main a ranger) but that went down the drain. Also, I’m a WvW player and we’ll be getting the new borderland map for free so I have no need to buy it.
Might get it when it’s less than 20€, but right now there is no way I’m paying 45€ for what has been presented to us so far.

own: Guild Wars 1 + all expansions

own: Guild Wars 2

So let me get this straight….Anet likes making money right?

So why is it that I spent oh I don’t know 175-200 dollars on all GW1+expansions
but only spent 59 dollars on Guild Wars 2?

Guild Wars 2 has bad end game game play that is why I put it down once you get to 80 it’s just so dam boring. And, I predict and I am probably sure that HOT will be just as boring also they still have not fixed or figured out how to FIX the Ranger which is my main. So they do not deserve my money and I have not spent a dime on gems either.
Compared to Guild Wars 1 GW2 too me has been a huge let down.

So my reasons for not purchasing HOT.

Ranger still broken
Find the endgame if GW2 in all capacities boring

It’s not worth the price they are asking. I have no interest in the new class, I dont care about Guild Halls, dont care about the new PvP modes.
All I am interested in is the Legendary crafting and the masteries, which I’m sorry, is nowhere near being worth $50. Even if I was interested in all aspects, the amount of content is still not worth the same price the original core game was (and I might add, other full core game MMO’s, so I can get a lot more for the same $50 elsewhere).
Unless they do a price drop, I’m going to continue to play around in Vanilla until a couple new MMO’s come out early 2016.

I’m a WVW focused player, my purchase of HOT is based exclusively upon seeing results and actual changes done to the game mode with regards to the issues outlined in this post by Arena Net https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WvW-Invitational-Statement-from-John-Corpening-game-director-for-World-vs-World/page/4#post5560972

Due to their past record of making statements then doing absolutely nothing, I will simply not commit my $$ prior to experiencing the actual results of the actual work and their practical, applied, in-game effectiveness. A-Nets actual solutions and their implimentation will decide if I purchase HOT or not and if I stay with this game at all, or not.

My problem is that they still won’t separate pvp balancing from pve balancing. They keep balancing for pvp which is geared for relatively small health enemies (other players). In pve, the enemies have massive amounts of health. They are not the same. Anet won’t change that stance, so I am iffy whether I will buy HoT or not.

Also, only 4 areas? And I am hearing that soloers will have it pretty rough in this because the npc difficulty is way up. Combining that with the constant nerfing of our characters in pve because of pvp balancing, I am seriously questioning whether I want it.

I bought it a week ago and don’t regret it at all after playing in this last beta. I absolutely love the new Revenant class.

As far as the ascended armor and raids thing go, well yeah, Anet broke their word about some promises they made for the game a long time ago so why people expected them to not do it again is beyond me.

Price too high for what I see of the game in the info released.

Consistent quality issues / bugs in GW2 force me to wait till the game is fixed after release.

Lack of consistency in game mode support of wvW and dungeons.

Grind.

I’m not keen on getting another copy of the core game I can’t use, but I could live with it. The main reason is the cost, I haven’t found it for sale anywhere in Canada and after the exchange rate it would end up costing me $65.75. It’s a shame because I was really looking forward to continuing the Living Story and exploring new places etc.

I’m not anti-social, I’m selectively social. There’s a difference.

This is kinda akward, a lot of people are posting a lot of BS and strange whiny things in my opinion. One funny thing, what are those often mentioned other MMOs which are supposed to be good. I havent seen any game worth my time, especially the Korean MMOs. Tera is so far the only decent one and it is still not even compareable with Guild Wars 2. WoW and Guild Wars 2 are so far ahead on everything else until now, if you dont agree, you may have not played enough MMO or have different “problems”.

I admit, the expension is too expensive though yes. Sorry Anet but you have to make a lot more to make it worth this money.
