Why no mainhand for War, Mes?
Berserkers also get extra burst skills for their existing weapons, chronomancers get to use some of their other skills an extra time and tempests get 8 different skills from their warhorn and the ability to poke their attunements.
Heralds only get 2 skills and a toggle, though. Poor heralds.
Are you leaving out ele on purpose? We got the least diversity when it comes to weapons. Imo I think that is due to lazyiness/not having enough time, though. I think warrior is fine with an offhand, but mesmer should have probs gotten a MH.

Why would he include Ele? Warhorn = 8 skills, and Tempest is playing incredibly well lately now that people are figuring out cool builds for it.

As I’ve missed the beta tests so far, can anyone else confirm this? Or is tempest still the litter box filling of elite specs?
As for warriors not getting a mainhand, what one should they have gotten? Everyone got ONE weapon, so it would have been mainhand, 2 hand, or offhand. Scepter? Dagger? Pistol? Torch? Scepter makes little sense, and the others work better as offhand weapons, or in a pair.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Go visit ele forums and most will tell you it’s not true.
Anyways, the number of skills doesn’t really matter. Ele is basically stuck with dagger since scepter is still trash and hence why it should have gotten another mainhand to open up actually a new playstyle. Not the same in a bit different way.
They didn’t add a single main hand weapon, for some reason. All two-handers and offhands.
It was probably a combination of balance decisions and decisions about what fits the aesthetics/lore/theme of the profession and the elite spec.

The only martial 1h weapons are Sword, Mace, Dagger, and Axe.
They are probably a lot harder to fit thematically than duel wield weapons or offhands.
Druid could only use mace or dagger and it would be hard to make them work on their own as the off hands aren’t magical in anyway.
Berserker can already use three and dagger doesn’t scream blood rage.
Tempest could probably use any of them but they probably wanted to limit the skills they would need to make due to attunements.
Dragon Hunter could probably use axe but it seems like such a violent, brutish weapon for the Guardian to be using. Dagger just seems silly on a heavy armored class anyway.
Necro could use a mace or sword but neither work with the idea of a “Reaper”.
Scrapper could only really ever be hammer.
Daredevil could use axe as a sort of kusarigama “ninja’y” getup but it would probably feel too similar to the vanilla thief who already has Scorpion Wire.
Chronomancer could probably use mace but shield makes about as much sense and one can make a shield that looks like a clock easier than a mace that looks like a clock.

If you exclude the fact you get 4 atunements. Including them meaning 20 skills on a staff or combo. The warhorn gives you 8 extra skills, not 2.
Worst diversity is Engineer, rifle, pistol, shield, harpoon gun but only if you exclude the weapon kits.
The only thing I would change is give the second pair of weapon slots to Ele and Engi so they can have another weapon set equipped but disable the switch while in combat. That would make it easier to switch weapon sets to a more suitable one rather than having to rummage through your bags looking for your daggers cause staff isn’t as useful in the combat you are going to face.
I would have loved a new condi mainhand for revenant instead of shield (although it fits better with Glint, I suppose).
I think it is fine as it is. Our time will come :P
That pretty much says it. All other classes have a 2 hand weapon with 5 skills. Warrior and mesmer have offhands with 2 new skills. The new class mechanics are cool, just wondering why the discrepancy?
Sure someone else has stated it, besides Ele, you’re forgetting Revenant. They only get a shield like mesmers…
Please give us a keyring…
Yes, I left out the ele because of the attunements. That’s 8 skills as opposed to 2. I’m not asking to weigh the pros and cons of the new elites as a whole. I mean, Druid gets 2 healing skills, 8 utility skills, and 2 elite skills, new pets, and a class mechanic that gives it 5 new weapon skills, like a necro. Not here to argue stuff like that.
But the mesmer, who’s class mechanic allows you to reuse whatever skills you’re able to pop off in 4 seconds, does not equate to new skills. The shield is pretty nifty, but without a mainhand weapon, the new spec seems a bit underwhelming. I’m sure most mesmers were hoping for a pistol mainhand.
As far as the warrior goes, again, the zerk burst skills are nice. Its a new class mechanic, but if you’re not utilizing the burst skills, which you can’t do on every, single attack, you need to use your weapons. The torch is oviously a condi weapon. The warrior does not have a condi mainhand weapon. Yes, the sword adds 1 stack of bleeding with 2 out of 3 auto attacks. The other attacks do not add condi damage. I would hardly call that a condi weapon. Compare that to a scepter on the necro wich does condi damage with every attack. Other condi weapons behave the same way.
When specced into condi damage, this also means that your direct damage will be very low with no condi damage to compensate. If a warrior is to spec into condi main stat, they need a condi mainhand weapon that does condi damage on every attack to compensate.
Some of you have replied that things don’t fit in thematically. That’s BS. It’s a matter of time and resources.
How’s about we just go with the obvious.
They felt the choices they made fit their vision.
There is more than 2H weapons in this game.
Mes & War already have 2 2H weapons at their disposal.
To make 1H weapons more popular/streamline.
Pick any one of the above for your answer, or all.

Not only is the autoattack a condi skill, the burst skill (and primal burst skill) is as well so yes, the sword is a condi weapon.

Partially, yes. Though condi builds often use Sinister (at least in PvE) which uses condition damage/power/precision stats so you still have some direct damage going thanks to power and precision.
Some of you have replied that things don’t fit in thematically. That’s BS. It’s a matter of time and resources.
Partially, sure, it is time and resources (and balance) but theme/role/lore/aesthetics are not totally insignificant.

They’ll also complain that ele is weak, when it’s clearly recognized by everyone that they’re still the best in every game mode.

You’re probably just picking the threads that support your opinion. Lots of people there agreed d/d ele needed a nerf. I also think ele won’t be so dominant after hot is live, especially in pve and raids, so there’s that.
It’s not a coincidence when lots people who do not main ele agree tempest is one of the weakest specs. Browse the forums and you might find more of those opinions than the ones stating it’s great.

Yes. I thought I said as much. However, it is a weak condi weapon. Only 2 out of the 3 auto attacks apply condition damage (one stack of bleeding, pretty lame) and sword 2 and 3 does not apply any condi damage, even if you try to trait for more condi damage, there’s nothing available to enhance those. Compared to other classes, this is a pathetic condi weapon.
