This is not a hate thread first off it is a real question.

My question is what’s the point of HoT?

When we had dry top there was the fun events going on and people doing them farming for weapon skins and loot.

Then we got SW my most favorite thing from an mmo ever. The excitement of getting to your favorite base, then getting into your favorite lane for a boss fight then the chests and the Pac man it was all great, plus the chest farms.

These new maps? What’s the point of doing the meta chain more then once? And a TWO hour long meta event is crazy long for people that work. Not only is it way too long, but what’s the point? There are no real rewards other then some achievements. People who are still playing these new maps I’m curious what’s your incentive to keep going back?

For the first time I feel I need a break and haven’t logged in for weeks as I see no purpose to anymore and that kinda makes me sad

because we are loyal gw2 players and we like the story and want to continue our adventure and the new map is problably not the last its problably gonna grow when they start kicken off the living story arcs again so having HoT is a must. Though there more than enough content in the core gameplay if you dont,

I agree that the meta events in HoT seem very long compared to others in the game. I’d love it if these were shorter and quicker. Like Dry Top, you can repeat the events for local currency and buy things like recipes and minis and tonics, etc. So that’s one reason to repeat it, if you’re into that sort of thing. Also, you can buy items for collections like the Mistward Armor set.

The main reason for repeating the events, however, is getting Maguuma Mastery XP since you can’t work toward your Maguuma Masteries in Central Tyria. This is the major reason why I’ve spent as much time doing events there as I have. I’ve also been trying to get the heavy armor Bladed Chest from Verdant Brink, but I’m not having much luck there.

I also worked on the Verdant Brink achievements in the beginning because VB is my fave map and because the events seemed really organized there. I haven’t done as much repeating content or chasing achievements in the other 3 maps, though, since I’ve had bad luck getting much in the way of populated maps and I’ve enjoyed their event chains less.

Once I get the masteries I want and the ones I need to finish the story and the few recipes I want from the vendors, I expect the only reason I’ll go back is if I want to take my alts through for map completions. Right now, I’m not sure if I’ll do many alts there or not.

If the maps continue to fail their events often and become even less populated than they already are as time goes by, I probably won’t take alts there, which is too bad really. I did almost all my alts in Central Tyria to 100% and enjoyed it. I would love to do the same in HoT, but the way the maps and events are currently set up, I’m not hopeful.

I do enjoy the new maps, and find the meta events to be fun. Though they do push the limits of what I feel might be a reasonable amount of time to sit down and play.

It’s sort of been an issue for GW2 for the entire time it has existed. You sort of have to make your own fun and goals at times.

I agree that the time commitment needed for a full meta event on the HoT maps is long and Arenanet might want to consider lowering the time to around what Dry Top and Silver Wastes are at.

Having a map goal for people to do is far more interesting than some of the core maps that have been around since the beginning. Remember Snowden Drifts? I almost forgot about it because it lacks meta events and world bosses. I had to look it up just to be sure.

I don’t mean to takeaway from the time, energy and resources that Arenanet put into that map because it is a visually appealing map and I would prefer it exists than not at all.

I guess having long meta events going beyond say 40mins. is not the best approach but it is better than having nothing at all for a map to be left and forgotten. Whether or not you want to stay for an entire meta event chain and what you want to get out of that map is up to the individual player and just how much time they have or are willing to put in.

I’m enjoying it. I feel like it was worth paying for. I can’t justify why you should should/should not like it.

Essentially it all boils down to their philosophy of “play how you want to play” and “for fun”. Meaning, make your own fun, cuz they won’t be providing it.

I too kind of struggle with keeping interest in this game, especially since everything in terms of rewards (err, something to strive for) seems to boil down to gold – Which for me, means playing the TP, which is kind of boring (once you get the hang of it, at first it’s thrilling…).

I think it’s their philosophy, in all honesty, that makes this game casual, and not exactly something that will suck your life away – whether you want it or not…

Casual in the sense that, find your own fun/do whatever to keep playing. Or rather not addictive as certain other titles used to be…

(Or maybe, you’re getting “older”/losing interest in gaming?)

I really enjoy doing the event chains. Then again, I don’t work. And I don’t do them that frequently, because the time commitment is enough that I have to be willing to spend my next couple of hours on a chain so I have to make sure I won’t be famished half way through, that I’m not going to need to run errands, that I’m not feeling tired and in need of a nap. Maybe that keeps the runs rare enough for me that I can keep the enjoyment; I certainly haven’t yet done all the side events available in DS, or completed the map on even one alt. I have yet to do the Tangled meta even once, and I’m closing in on my first Auric Basin map completion.

Plus I’m working on getting the mats to finish my batwing shoulders (just 18 glacial lodestones and 222 vials of linseed oil to go!) and also to make the machined staff needed for Bo. I haven’t finished training Exalted for another Bo item.

And raids are now a thing, which I might get a chance to do some day. So there is plenty to keep me engaged; I’ve just slowed down my initial immersion when I could spend 8 hours in the new maps without noticing the time. Even now I feel I’ve made progress towards something every moment I’m in the maps.

I guess that all boils down to … it’s fun.

I"m having a blast in the new zones and I really don’t understand the OP at all. I liked this so it was good. I liked that so it was good. I dont’ like this so it’s not good? Okay.

You like the Silverwastes OP. The Silverwastes are extremely simple to me even though I enjoyed it for a while. It’s four forts with the exact same event chain, followed by four bosses, and the Vinewrath event which is on farm. The maze if you like it, which I did.

Comparatively, Verdant Brink, the first of the new zones, has five outposts, instead of four forts. Each of them has completely different day time events, which I find quite enjoyable. The nighttime events aren’t really significantly different from what you did in SW anyway, and each ends with a different boss, much like the Silverwastes.

With the containers everywhere, and the constantly influx of experience, I get plenty of loot. I’m leveling my masteries. I’m enjoying gliding. There are tons of new achievements to keep me busy exploring.

To me the new zones are far superior to Dry Top and Silverwastes, even though I enjoy both of those zones. But this takes it all to a new level.

The new maps are nicely designed but in the long run they are ruined by having a “meta event chain” slapped on them. It does not come as a surprise though, we could expect this after DT and SW.

Somehow, I’m not motivated at all to go back to the HoT zones (after spending maybe 20 hours in them).

I’m not sure why, but somehow it’s just too stressful (for example organizing VB T4 defense), and it takes a too long time commitment to see a meta event through. It just doesn’t have the magic of the vanilla GW2 content, where you could jump in for 30min and have some fun. You could even do SW breach + VW in that time easily.

In HoT, you need to plan around the 2h meta schedule, taxi around if you want to do the meta, and tangible rewards are abysmal. Also the waiting times for the meta finale are LONG (Tarir between pylons are finished and the defense event takes like 20 min alone, with no rewards unless you win a golden armor, Tangled Depths might take almost an hour, if the events are completed quickly).

For raids, the preparation and involvement are even more prohibiting. I’ll come back to GW2 when more consideration to casual players is given.

As far as I know, these new meta events have a chance to drop valuable exotics at tier 4 maps with 200% participation from chests and champion bags. You get loot from all the little chests and all you have to do is buy some keys (at least in AB and TD). Then there’s achievements of course, and experience for your masteries. I prefer the new zones over SW and DT but I can see why some people don’t.

Actually it does. You just gotta read between the lines. Obviously I purhased HoT but Im not in the jungle. So my reason to get the expansion was the GS Reaper. The jungle itself is a turn off hence I’m back to core content working toward map completion. The only reason to play HoT is to fully unlock my elite.
