What about those with max number of character slots already?

I don’t but I’ve seen a few threads where people say they have 64 chars. It occurred to me to wonder, if they get the expansion will they have to delete a char or will ANet reset their char limit. I’m expecting they’ll have to delete one.

I wouldn’t presume that the beta characters will even be part of the same server-side data structure the limitation comes from, and honestly, I doubt it will be a huge deal either way regardless.

They’ve already said that beta characters will have no bearing whatsoever on your game’s account. No progress will be saved or carried over. All they are doing is allowing certain accounts an option to access the beta clients from the regular client, which will likely be hosted on its own, separate server. The beta characters will likely not count for character slot limits.

I think he means, if you have 6 character slots and you have created 6 characters, that mean you have no free slot to create a new character. So his question is, do you need a free character slot to create a Beta character?

A new character slot will be provided with the Beta/Stress test client more than likely. Just as it was previously.

It would not be reasonable to expect anyone to have to pay to participate in the Betas/Stress test. I’m sure that would not be the kind of press they would want.

As I understand it, somewhere next to the ‘login, logout’ button, create/delete character button will be ‘play Beta’ button, that button alone will make a new slot, or switch away your account chars and go to ‘another thing, specific for HoT’, there you will be able to create the human/ wathever profession, beta char.

correct me if i’m wrong of course, but I read it this way. And let’s face it, Anet knows a lot of people have no free char slot, I think they have foreseen this issue.

Sometimes, the most obvious escapes people heavily involved in getting something ready for test (especially if it’s specifically created for the test been there, book/movie/etc) OP asked a question that was on my mind. Also bear in mind that we were told we weren’t having to download a specific test build (as per EotM, for example). Just to be sure to have the latest update.
