Will the base classes get new skills and traits
Or only Specializations get those?
Probably just specializations. They would have dropped some kind of hint to it at PAX otherwise. Skills and traits are a major feature, which would have been announced at PAX.

There is a high chance they will add more base skills, we still don’t know yet.

I’m hoping they do. As well as racial skills.

why new racial skills they are just worse then anything else so you dont have to be 1 race for a specific profession
i hope so, otherwise it’ll feel a bit stale for the people that don’t want to specialize.

I don’t agree. If Anet introduces a new trait and you say you also need new skills because ‘otherwise it’ll feel a bit stale for the people that don’t want to use that trait’ then that seems like a strange argument to make. More options = more options, whether you like or use them or not. It’s not like specializations are in any way a one-time choice or something that takes a lot of work to change in and out of.

On the contrary – there is ZERO chance of that being part of the Heart of Thorns package – if those things were coming ArenaNet would not have mysteriously overlooked promoting that fact as part of their sales pitch.
I feel it necessary to point out that the “base class” is itself a specialization; merely the one that you started with. (ADD says: A thought occurs… Can new characters “specialize” at creation, unlocking the ability to change at 80, as normal?)
At the risk of putting words into ArenaNet’s mouths, it is probable that there will be at least a few new toys with the expansion besides specializations. They did state outwardly that the trait system, or at least the unlocks for it, will be revamped again. This would be the perfect opportunity to add some new traits and/or fiddle with existing ones to make more interesting choices.
A warning: Let us not get carried away with inference. Reading “between the lines” can only lead to disappointment, especially if there was nothing there to begin with.

except they’ve said time and again that specializations change your mechanics, and heavily implied several times that there are perks to sticking with the base class.
so if i don’t want to play a druid and i don’t get anything new for my ranger, yeah, it’ll be boring. i just want some new utilities.

The perks of sticking with the base class are that you have the ranger mechanics instead of the druid mechanics. Furthermore, there have been some hints that a profession also loses access to stuff when he specializes (i.e. lose access to some skills, traits and possibly a weapon, in favor of other skills, traits and a weapon).

You get new utilities for the ranger, when you specialize as a druid. I really don’t see the problem here.

no, you get druid utilities. you give up your ranger stuff for druid stuff, but if i want to be a freaking ranger, i don’t get anything new. is it that hard to follow? druid plays different, has different stuff. if i don’t want the druid stuff because i don’t want a druid, i want a ranger, thene i don’t get anything. it’s either “give up what you have for druid stuff or don’t get anything new”.

Yes and that is your choise to do mate, you still get masteries and all the new areas to explore tho.
Am I right in thinking that specializations will get access to 1 previously locked weapon +some other not locked weapons?
Meaning new skills for other weapon they have access to? I mean if a druid really is going to be different from a ranger than I would expect all its weapon skill to be different as well…That is a a lot of new skills for each profession.

you’re right in your first assumption, but wrong in assuming the current weapon options will get whole new skills.
