Q:
Will there be new pets for rangers?
I’d love to see some new pets/pet functionality.
Looking forward to playing a Druid, and hoping we have the option to not use pets, and instead have some other function, such as skills that allows you to spawn creatures/pets/allies.
Would love to see a Gryphon as a pet, maybe even a raptor. Though would love to see the return of tigers an croc.
Griffon pets please! <3

Will we get new pets? Highly unlikely.

Highly likely(IMO of course). Might not be very many but i fail to see why they wouldnt add at least one.

Nonsense. I’m certain they’ll add new pets. I’m also certain they won’t do anything about the horrendous AI that makes them utterly useless in PvE.
I think that since the pet type specific traits was removed, they can add a new type of pets and give the usual 4~5 pets for that type, like introduce insects type or something like that.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

Well, given how reluctant they have been to touch pets at all since launch (unless it affected PVP) is why I’m saying they are highly unlikely to add any pets at all.
I hope we get new pets. Raptors plz? (Friggin’ dinosaurs FTW)

We got a new pet when they added Southsun, and that wasn’t even an expansion.

And the other two new zones lack any thing even close to being tameable by a Ranger that i can see.

However, those beetles in Dry Top and the Silverwastes looked tameable. Gave a lot of rangers hope. But, as another poster said, it looks unlikely we’ll get new pets. Still . . . one can hope. . . .

They did not look tameable to me at all, Honestly ive never looked at Beatles as pets in any game really. I have more hope now for more rangers getting new pets because they removed the pet family traits and got rid of any limitations.
it will be great to not use pet at all,,, i am tired of people shouting at me to control pet in dungeon and fractals,,,,i put them to avoid combat but somehow they attack anyway….
plz an option not to use pet at all,,,,,,
For a expansion there better be new pets
Ranger pets are totally broken. I ‘m 100% sure they won’ t fix em and they won’ t add any

Really? Not even the baby ones? Was a whole mess of threads about them in the rangers forum back in the day. More than a few of us tried to tame them and even asked devs to make it possible.
But, regardless, we’ll see as far as new pets . . . next year. Zing!

Nope! Im weird though, i dont even like the fact spiders are tame able but at the same time im used to it from other games, the old neverwinter nights for example! Maybe the will be, who knows! Only time will tell though!
Why should rangers get new pets? Unless there is something for other professions too, I’m against it.

Why shouldnt we? We got new pets in every single expansion in GW1 and nobody complained.
In GW1, everyone could have a pet.
In GW1, everyone could have a pet.
Not the point. most people dont even want pets in this game, so i dont see how us getting new pets affects you anyways when they are basically just skins to most.

Every profession is getting an entirely new specialization that includes a new weapon, new utilities, a new trait line, and a new class mechanic. You’re getting plenty. Rangers can get new pets to give more options for their class mechanic without hurting anyone.
Yeeeaaahhh!!! Give us some snakes!!!

That’s exactly the point. You want something extra for just your class. This takes time and isn’t fair to the 7 other classes that also wouldn’t mind cosmetic improvements. And if you want those pets to have new abilities, then it just gets ridiculous.
I would find great delight if as a Druid I could use an Oakheart as a pet. This would be magical!

Luckily, it’s not up to forum goers whether an addition occurs or not. Honestly, if some new alteration or customization were added to, say Necromancer’s Death Shroud so you can alter its look, why cry foul for more options? It’s not like only current Necros would get it, it’d be available for anyone who plays Necro.
Just because you decide not to play a class doesn’t mean there’s some sort of unfairness for adding to something you choose not to try.
And if anything, the fact Rangers use pets from nature around them, it’s almost an obligation to add more pets when their environment changes enough because that’s the theme and style of the profession.

And if other professions had to COLLECT THEIR CLASS MECHANIC FROM THE LANDSCAPE you might possibly have a point to make.
Oh, but you don’t.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

At PAX East I asked Colin and Izzy if Rangers would get to have the new dinosaurs as pets. Colin laughed and said “that would be fun”. Personally I’m hopefully for it

My point remains. Just because rangers get their pets from the “landscape” doesn’t give them a special right to get new pets. My point is clear, if rangers get new pets, then other classes should get something new too. What I’m asking for is only fair, and to ask otherwise would be selfish. There’s no need for people to be so aggressive and hostile about this.
Are you also not aware that pets constitute a huge part of a ranger’s damage and ability to survive in both PvE and PvP? New pets could potentially add more variety to certain traits and specializations.
The ironic part is your argument is the one that’s selfish. If rangers get something new, then you should too. And if you don’t, then they shouldn’t get anything either.
You seriously don’t see the glaring hole in your argument?
Let me show how flawed that is: Necromancers can summon multiple pets. Since I’m also a pet summoner, a ranger, it’s selfish and unfair that they get more than me. Therefore, necromancers should only summon one pet like me. Unless I can get more pets out at the same time, necromancers should never get a new or more pets either.
Again, your reasoning is flawed. And I hope you see that.

I disagree with you entirely, and find your reasoning flawed and biased.
I get the feeling no matter what I, or others say, you won’t listen. But let me point out one last item:
My point is clear, if rangers get new pets, then other classes should get something new too.
You said so yourself. Again, who is selfish? Regardless, it’s unlikely rangers will get anything new. The community is more than used to that. So, honestly, they expect nothing.
Which is kind of telling in itself.
The selfish one is the one asking for Anet to devote its time and resources solely for something they alone can use without consideration for others.
