Hi guys – was blown away by the adrenaline pumping competitiveness of GuildWars 1 where I’d spend hours planning builds and strategies outside of the game to take into our ranked guild matches to help us get an even higher rank (most we ever got was 46 in the world). Every match counted and my God was it tense.
I picked up Guildwars 2 with high hopes for the competitive multiplayer but instead of very tactical guild vs guild fights – every one of which would effect your position within the rankings – I only seemed to find a very casual zerg style pvp experience which does not appeal to me personally.
Will this expansion bring back the competitive guild vs guild competition/maps that were present in GW1 or am I full of misguided optimism?
Many thanks,
Darren

Well, the new Stronghold map is basically an advanced version of the GW1 GvG and they are adding guild leaderboards.

Depends on whether the new game mode is 5v5 or larger and if it is open to solo Q or not.
Guild halls will be a great start however.

This “expansion”, from what it looked, could just be called a small DLC. No mention of new dungeons/raids.
As for GvG competitiveness, how will that work out if only people who bought the expansion can play it?
I don’t agree with forcing people to buy something in order to play a new competitive PvP mode. I don’t think that’s a honest strategy and it has never worked well for a game wanting to be competitive.
