Will you prepurchase next expansion?
Nope thats like asking would you like to be scamed again?
Anet held back vital information that would have put a lot of people of prepurchase right till a couple of days before launch. So no il not be buying nothing iv not seen from them again.
I have never preordered an expansion and won’t ever do it. For me preordering isn’t worth it when I can simply pick the game up at a local store or by it online upon release. Should I really (really) want it, that is. No matter if the game in question is a GW2 expansion or something else.
Well said @Ashern.
The game became a waste of time.
People, be warned of titles with the NCSoft logo (just as with GW2) on them, or anyhow associated with the company. Their business practices ruin every single one of their titles. It’s shoddy business with only money in mind. Just look up Lineage 2 and you’ll understand. I played that game for around 10 years and it went to ruin because of the F2P model.

Well said @Ashern, well said. You summed it up so well I don’t even know is there something to add.
The game became downright worthless; a complete waste of time.
That being said, a family member for whom I bought the game already got bored and I’m already on the way back to my favourite title from Blizzard.
To everyone:
beware of titles with the NCSoft logo (just as with GW2) on them, or anyhow associated with. Their business practices ruin every single one of their games. It’s shoddy business with only money in mind. Lineage 2 is a perfect example.
I thought Anet broke off from NCSoft and now work on the game independently. It seems some NCSoft tendencies remained in Anet though.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, the logo is still there. Also, any video I launched over Twitch advertised their logo. You don’t do that if you break ties with someone.
The way the game changed everything hints towards them being behind it, to squeeze out as much money as possible (focus on F2P, game nerfs in favour of the gem store, it’s blunt obvious).
Those who have played at least one notable title from NCSoft will know.

Pro tip, scroll down the page to the bottom.
Yes, I am rather satisfied with HOT. The new areas are awesome, beautiful and vast, the new elite specializations are fun to play and I have yet to enter the raid which I heard is a lot of fun and challenging (which I like). I am really happy and already sunk a big chunk of time into it. For me, it was a good investment.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
Absolutely not. And it’s not that HoT is bad in my opinion (4th day playing, too little to pass judgements), but there are strong objective reasons to not pre-order any expansion for that matter:
1. Pre-purchase price – 50$. Well early birds may catch the worm, but late bird catches the discout – i got my HoT key for roughly 32$ at 3rd party retailer. Nuff said.
2. Keeping a-net on their toes. Let’s see how they handle LS3, if we’ll get any more heart of maguuma maps (looking very forward to that) and how will they fix and tweak their game. NOT pre-purchasing the game means they can get customers by fixing the dealbreakers that made them stay away from HoT (like not enough content in their eyes, too linear progression, bugs etc). If everyone pre-ordered, what incentive would they have to work on that which they already released?
It makes little-to-no-difference whether one pre-pays or not.
One is either going to buy the expansion or one is not—if one is going to buy, one’s money is already spent regardless! So one may as well get whatever bonuses come with a pre-purchase (however meager they may be).
If one isn’t going to buy an expansion pack—the whole issue is moot.
I will definitely pre-purchase an additional expansion. Heart of Thorns is fantastic.
Not prepaying gives the opportunity to not buy the expansion if it turns out badly.
I thought Anet broke off from NCSoft and now work on the game independently. It seems some NCSoft tendencies remained in Anet though.
Nope, see Wikipedia and NCSoft pages = ArenaNet is a NCSoft company = we are screwed.
Quote from Wikipedia:
“The company was acquired by NCsoft in 2002. On 10 September 2008, NCsoft announced the formation of NCsoft West, headquartered in Seattle, Washington. ArenaNet founders Jeff Strain and Patrick Wyatt left ArenaNet to take roles at NCsoft West in 2008, and ultimately left NCsoft in 2009. The only founder left is Mike O’Brien.”
Guild Wars 2, Aion, Lineage 2 and many others are just cash machines for NCSoft. They all follow the same, corrupt pattern.
Not prepaying gives the opportunity to not buy the expansion if it turns out badly.
Which is why I waited, and am glad I did. Still not sold on HoT being a good value for me.
That’s exactly what I’d like to know, I wanna know the source for these claims. Forums are full of a bunch of posts that claim “lots of people” like/dislike specific parts of the game.
Are you going also ask Vayne for the source of the claim he make?
there are a lot of people, even casuals, who like the new content.
I should not post that because people derail the thread topic me to because I post that. Thread topic is will you prepurchase next expansion. Many other thread for people to argue about if like current expansion or not. So please do not derail any more.
That post comes as a reply in a discussion where someone else talks about how casuals dislike the game.
IIRC Vayne has said mutiple times that we should wait at least 6 months for evidence.Still wait for Vayne’s source that, “there are a lot of people, even casuals, who like the new content.” See how this work? I will wait for source.
Now do not derail thread. Topic is will you prepurchase next expansion? Yes or no. Not let us argue who like this expansion.
My source is a guild full of casuals who like the new zones. If I know even ten guys that like it (and I know a whole lot more), and I know these people to be casual, then what are the odds that they’re the only ten people who like it. It’s a ridiculous comment.
I run a casual guild. There are a couple of players in my guild you might consider hard core. But over 200 people in the guild aren’t. I have well over fifty people (closer to 100) logging in every day and playing. They’re enjoying themselves, leveling masteries, doing the story, learning the new zones.
In fact, my guild hasn’t touched the raid yet at all. Most of my guild probably doesn’t even know about the dungeon nerf, because they didn’t run dungeons.
But they’re enjoying the new zones.
I’ll gladly pre-purchase the next expansion. It has definitely been worth the $50 to me.
Honestly, I rarely preperchase any kind of game, so I don’t really know for sure.
I will say that I am enjoying HoT so far. I just want to clear something up. A lot of people I notice like to categorize the Original and the expansion as, the original being more for the casuals and the expansion being more for the hardcore. What I want to clear up about that is I consider myself a casual player. And I must say, I have been enjoying the new areas in HoT. While I may take longer to get things done then many of the hardcore players, it is still enjoyable to me. I welcome the challenging content. I don’t look at things like farming hero points as a grind because I actually do enjoy the process. I just took my time with it, and the same thing with mastery points. I was able to get my Dragonhunter a few weeks ago and now working on Scrapper. Again, it took longer because I only get to play 1-2 hours a day, if at all, but I still did it and I still enjoy it.
So Basically what I am saying is, casual players are still able to have fun in this expansion, especially if you enjoy challenge.
Keep in mind, I am not saying the expansion does not have it’s draw backs. I am well aware of them and I understand why some people are turned off by a lot of the content. I can say myself that I don’t enjoy EVERYTHING about the expansion and the game in general. But in order for any game to be fun to someone, you have to enjoy the process. If you don’t enjoy the process and look at it as grind or work, then this game or at least the expansion is probably not for you. I enjoy the process mainly because I know once I have everything I need, then I probably won’t touch the game until the next content release.
As of right now, I have 6 more professions to get through as well as 8 more elite specializations, so I will be busy for a while. And I will enjoy every minute of it.
By the way Vayne, I would gladly join your guild of casuals.

I do not think that will be any. One or two maps for each living story season, new raid wings, no pressure on the development team, this is my guess.
Nope no way. When they announced Stronghold they announced it like a real GvG mode with guild rankings. It turned out they only made 1 demo map, there is no GvG or guild ranking and it’s only 5v5.
WvW has been left on autopilot and they didn’t change the amount of servers even if the new maps are twice bigger. From the competitive side this expansion has been a complete let down.
Then Tempest turned out to be a rushed out elite profession that is absolutely no fun to play even if it can stack boons.
This isn’t the Anet it used to be.
This isn’t the Anet it used to be.
The original group from GW1 left Anet, they had visions and knew what their player base wanted. This current Anet group lacks that vision, they are only concern about the gem store and pumping out full price $50 expansion. They are hoping to ride out the GW name that the originals created for as long as possible, but I guess this too might come to a crashing end.
Nope I pretty much played every night over the last 3 years. I stopped playing 3 weeks ago. I come on the forums on Tuesday afternoon to check if any patch would be coming.
They broke the 2 things I cared about WvW and my warrior.
I’m slowly getting back in shape for bloodborne DLC and eventually Dark Souls 3 PvP.
I will.
I like that there is collections to work for, even if they are costly or take a long time. It gives me something to do for months to come.
One is either going to buy the expansion or one is not—if one is going to buy, one’s money is already spent regardless! So one may as well get whatever bonuses come with a pre-purchase (however meager they may be).
Not necessarily.
Other options exists:
One might be inclined to buy the expansion but choose to hold off on making the purchase until launch in order to judge the full scope of what is included.
Or one might be disinclined to buy an expansion but be persuaded by information revealed at/after launch to change one’s mind.
I, for example, had assumed that I would buy GW2’s first expansion pack, but was convinced to give it a pass by information revealed in the months leading up to launch.
Didn’t get this expansion until a day before release, figuring my small guild would need help with the hall. Seeing what they did with guildhalls and the insane upgrades that are not treated fairly to every type of guild, I probably would have been fine without the expansion and the material grinds.
Gliding is isn’t exactly “awesome” to me as I’ve already done “flying” in other games. Reaper and dragon hunter are fun, warriors destroyed, the rest are meh. Only 4 new maps, auric basin is great, dragonstand right behind that, verdant behind that, tangled depths I hate.
Don’t plan on pre-purchasing the next expansion, or even getting it if they keep on their path to destroy wvw.
North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.
“Game over man, Game Over!” – RIP Bill
Due to the elitism involving raids, clearly I handed over $50 for content I’ll never be able to play.
So for future patches, no. Not gonna waste more money on content that either leaves me with Grinding everything that I just purchased or that has me excluded from PAID content by players.
….. And Elementalist.
While there are things I do not think are done well. Yes I would pre-purchase the next expansion.
Basically I try to support the games I am playing.
As someone who doesn’t PvE much, given that it had around the same content (new e-specs, story, ect) I’d pre-order.
Nope, no way.
They will totally try to reinvent the wheel again.
Change everything that made this game so popular.
NOT A PENNY FROM ME EVER AGAIN ANET!
FIX THIS GARBAGE!
kitten Adventures!
kitten gated content
kitten Forced adventure (mastery points and collections in them!)
kitten not having a choice anymore on how to get things!
Pictures or we won’t believe your head just exploded!
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Will you prepurchase next expansion?

no.
/15 chars……
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
Say Anet do everything they do like before HoT expansion release. Video, blog and allow beta if prepurchase. Will you prepurchase? Curious.
I won’t pre- or post-purchase. I am done giving this company my money if this is the level of product they create.
Most likely no.
I had a lot of trust in Anet before HoT came out and prepurchased it immediately. Sadly, not anymore.
Anet would need to work very hard to regain my trust.
This. I’m just waiting for the next expansion to strip out core mechanics, toss a bunch of grind on them, and give them back in a shiny new paywall package.
Of all the excuses, rants and white knighting in this thread…. I lol……
Anyways, I will never preorder……. will only buy AFTER it is release…and after people reviewed it.
I won’t say HoT is perfect. It certainly has room for improvement. That being said, yes, I would, without a doubt, pre-purchase another expansion. Over all, I’m having a blast.

As, it seems to me, that if you want anything fun/goodlooking, or even useful (e.g. bag/bank slots), for your characters, within a reasonable amount of time of starting playing, you need to spend more than you would have on a sub game.
??? I don’t see any need to spend real money to bling out my characters. There are plenty of nice looking skins in game. You buying stuff off the gemstore is my idea of blatantly wasting money. Many of my fully geared up level 80s are wearing mix n matches of beginning or even starter gear skins. I would argue they look far better than anything in the gemstore.
No.
No new dungeons.
No new fractals.
Short personal story.
One pvp map for the new pvp mode.
Making guilds regrind for things they had.
Only 4 maps
Very little in the way of new armor or weapons
Mastery is pretty much garbage.
Precursor crafting is garbage.
The new class is fun, the maps and art are amazing, the map wide events while some have issues are fun. But it doesn’t offset the above problems. The abandonment of dungeons, fractals, and wvw doesn’t give me much to stick around for.
With the Overwatch beta and FO4 I struggle to find a reason to log in.

And yet you have time to log in here and rant about it. hmmm….
If its less than $50, $49.99 will do.
Not a chance. I’ll wait and see the complete game release, the reactions, and even then, I’ll wait.
Unlucky since launch, RNG isn’t random

And yet you have time to log in here and rant about it. hmmm….
You have an odd definition of what a rant is. Also I said I’m lacking a reason not time.
Feel like I got burned on HoT. Won’t purchase next dlc…
If they keep doing what they’re doing, then probably not.
First their HoT marketing was disastrous. One of the worst I’ve seen. They made huge effort trying to pull ppl into pre-orders yet gave so little info. into the actual content.
It’s their management, marketing and the money-making decisions they made that put me off, not the overall quality of the game. Anet could’ve done a lot better at handling player responses and actually speculated what the players wanted prior to having them pre-order their product.
And yet you have time to log in here and rant about it. hmmm….

You can’t expect people to actually read what you’re writing before they patronize you.
Normally I never pre-purchase a game or an xpac , I always wait to see some reviews and what the game offer.
I don’t really like the direction Anet took with this expansion, they only cared to make content for hardcore players , almost removing dungeons instead adding few new with raids….I’m afraid that to play next expansion you will need to play 16 hour a day , there will be only raids that needs full legendary set to be played , meta events that needs 4 hours to complete with 3426 players , to gain 1 level you will need 4mill xps , mastery/hp points will not shown on map anymore …..find it on your own , old Tirya with be completely destroyed and not accessible anymore because was only for casual/noob players , price of next xpac will be 80e , there will be only 2 new maps ……but with 7 layers each , will be added 2 new classes ….tank and healer so find party will be much easier.
Probably while GW2 new xpac will be out , I will still playing Black Desert Online
Still….GW2 vanilla has been one of the best game I ever played !!
I felt that HoT was lacking the soul, charm and passion of the core game or the entire franchise, GW1 xpacs included. It was so radically different that I didn’t feel like I was playing a Guild Wars game. Not to mention various large bugs in key areas of the game. It all felt a bit rushed and sloppy to be honest. I’m a little disappointed with my preorder and will certainly be more cautious about jumping straight into an expansion just because it has the words “Guild Wars” on it.
I didn’t pre-order HoT, nor did i even buy it as it offers me nothing.
My only interest in GW2 was WvW which they slowly destroyed over the course of 3 years and killed it with HoT.
So no i will not pre-order or order any new Anet/NcSoft products anymore, unless they change their ways, which is very unlikely.
Luna Solares – Mesmer
Not a chance. Didn’t prepurchase this time either, and only purchased reluctantly when it was live.
Depends on what they do with WvW.

You pretty much sum it up for me. GW is no longer GW, it’s something else now and not in a good way.
No. I love the game but it’s a fact that the expansion was extremely rushed.
