I’ll be honest I’ve not played much gw2 for about a year however the expansion has enticed me back somewhat.

I kind of have my heart set on playing a Revenant so am wondering if its worth stockpiling mats etc to make it as easy as possible to level up my toon and profs come launch. Worth noting I’ve started a low level necro to start farming zones etc as I cant stomach playing any of my old toons.

Is it a bit early to be doing this do you think?

If you plan to level you rev by crafting, starting now and collecting low level mats with a new toon as you progress wouldn’t be a bad idea for now.

We can’t give you an honest answer until we see it for ourselves. As of right now? No. Nothing is happening. And, again as of right now, we have no clear indication when the expansion will be out.

Farming for X materials might be pointless when the expansion comes out because it might make certain materials obsolete.

Once again, we don’t know yet.

Gone to Reddit.

Thanks.

Yeah but wont be leveling only by crafting as I will want to check out the amended story and complete some zones (eventually I will need to have 100% map completion on him…… yeah I’m one of those guys). Its mainly as I’ll be doing weaponsmith and armorsmith and am guessing it will take up a ton of materials to level them both.

I will need to be quick at leveling though as dont want to get left behind by my friend who will be playing one of his existing toons

If you got fed up with it a year ago, nothing has really changed. Unless you are into grinding, i would wait until the exp.

The term Exploit means nothing in GW2 –
Vials Maize Balm Exploit(Halloween) 2014
Locked out of JP (Wintersday) 2015

well.. you MIGHT wanna come back to prepare a little for it, ya know.. mats farming on a hunch, leveling new chars of classes you enjoy to have em ready for HoT and the specialisations that come with it, doing map completion for the new or old legendaries…just in case you want one of them, cause you dont need to pray to rng jesus to get precursors anymore and so on. Also the latest
patch´s datamining came with a datamined message that boils down that HoT is to prepurchase. We dont know when it actually is official and when the release date is or anything but it MIGHT be soon. Do with that what you want OP. As for my personal opinion… eh… nah, wait a bit longer, not much going on here atm

Have you tried Living Story S2 perhaps?

I would suggest completing living story season 2 in preparation for the expansion, other than that you can grind out mats and gold to prepare.

Coming back to gather mats would be kinda silly due to the changes coming in the xpac. LW might be worth it to you if you’re into story stuff, but in my opinion it’s terrible value for money. There’s naught else to be had in game now, the only content updates we’re getting are obnoxious gemstore skins that people seem to be lapping up.

In short: NOPE

If you want to level as fast as possible when the expansion releases I would suggest Tomes of Knowledge.

You get them by simply logging in every day. (10 or 16 if you chose them on the last day)
Filling rewards tracks in PvP.
Doing the Daily WvW Keep Capturer.
Or what I like to do the Fractal “lvl x-x” Dailies.

All other PvE dailies give you some Writs of Experience which only give you 5% of a level.

I’m kind of in the same boat as you OP. I haven’t really played since September. I come back to find that my guild has kicked me, which I understand due to my inactivity. The only things I’ve really done since coming back on a limited basis have been pvp, as the PvE grind for legendaries has kind of destroyed my soul last summer.

Basically the expansion, new class, and the chronomancer, and the promise of more pvp-like the things to do has re-enticed me, however I won’t really be as active when I come back because I have other games on my N3DS/WiiU to compete for my time, although I do have a desire to really get into pvp again on mesmer and to maybe grind for some super shiny legendary skin if the new ones are any good.

Also got lured back in because of the HoT hype and the first month I found myself logging in regularly for dailies and leveling forgotten classes.
But it gets old after that.
Daily log in rewards and other neglected stuff(like using up all these lvl20 scrolls) is all I do, apart from accumulating XP boosts and level tomes.
Wouldn´t dream of actually wasting money on the Season 2 carp, unless I eventually decide to start building that mordethingy vine backpack.

Edit: Hmm, sounds a bit too negative.
The game is still fun to play when you stop taking it all too seriously.

Given the huge number of game breaking bugs introduced on May 19th – which appeared to be a relatively minor patch – I would suggest that if you do return pre-HoT, you come with a grim sense of humor. The issues that are happening, seemingly everywhere, do not, in my opinion, bode well for HoT. I can only imagine the number of game breaking bugs that will appear once HoT drops.

ANet seriously needs to have a full beta-server before any and all releases. Designated players should be able to log into the beta server to play around, and find and report bugs.

Sure lots of bugs. Haven’t most of them been fixed? I think a lot of them were fixed in the subsequent days.

If nothing else, come back to log in each day for the daily log-in rewards. Let them build up, and you may find them useful to you when HoT goes live.

….someday. And that’s the problem. If you burned out before, I’d suggest doing very little until HoT hits, because you may have plenty of time to burn out again before that day. Just the log-in rewards and maybe some dailies.

delicate, brick-like subtlety.
