Worth the buy?
I think so.

Play what you want to play. But deep down inside you know you’ll eventually get all 3 anyway, and play them all.
This game is cheaper than WoW (remember, you don’t pay a penny after you do your initial buy, unless you want to) and more fun (for ME. Experience may vary). The moment this game launched I simply could not deal with WoW mechanics or aesthetics any longer, despite deep RP investment in my WoW guild.
Overwatch is a very different thing from all I have seen. I don’t think you can compare them. If you can only afford one of the three games, ask yourself if you want an ongoing MMO with many different things to do over time or a fast paced FPS that calls on you to learn the maps and the moves and the synergies and dive in, play, and leave as you feel fit but will generally present the same experience every time you play.
Either is valid, only you know what you will enjoy.
Yes.

Hey fellas, quick question.
Is the game actually worth the price? Because I’m stuck between, HoT, Overwatch and wow…
This and wow is an mmorpg, I wouldn’t play wow if you want a better abd more updates combat system, overwatch will get boring far quicker then an mmo but you may still like it.
Play the Vanilla for now to see if you enjoy it, Vanilla is my favorite part of gw 2 so far xD
If you enjoy the core game, probably. If not, probably not.
Though I’d get the game on sale if possible, TBH.

He obviously bought the game pre-HoT because he’s posting on the official forums (F2P accounts cannot do this).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Oh right well erm. The elite specs are fun to use and it adds some interesting things like jumping shrooms and gliders.
Story ain’t to great and is short
Not much but I hope it helps in your decision xD
Yeah, you must have an account if you’re posting. Perhaps your question is on HoT as opposed to vanilla GW2. I would say HoT is worth it for gliding alone. It’s one of those gamechanger QoL enhancements that you really don’t want to be without. And, if you play a ranger the pets available in HoT are worth it. That said, I don’t play in HoT maps (beyond getting gliding and pets) and I wouldn’t buy HoT for the maps. I’ve played WoW for years but really prefer pre-HoT gw2.
- It’s totally worth the price.
- It’s a waste of money.
- It’s okay, but not as good a value as at launch.
- It’s way too much money for DLC, not a real expansion.
- It’s a great bargain for the hours of enjoyment.
Actual opinions of actual players expressed actually in these actual forums — your mileage might vary.
I think any MMO is worth the price if you put time into it. GW2 is a smaller game than WoW and their expansion doesn’t add up in terms of sheer volume of content. However, the graphics here are superior, the combat system is more action-oriented, and there is no monthly subscription.
As far as the expansion content goes, you gain new trait lines for every class, a new class, raids, and four maps like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
Nope—- totally catering to PVP/e-sports and raid, nerfing professions, ignoring bugs-some that have existed for 3 yrs or more. Hot maps —" four maps like nothing you’ve ever seen before." That doesn’t mean it’s a good thing.
Best part of HoT is gliding and can be used it in Core maps.

Do remember, you won’t be able to take part in LS Season 3 (if Living Story is something you have enjoyed in the past) without purchasing Heart of Thorns.
Good luck.
Hey fellas, quick question.
Is the game actually worth the price? Because I’m stuck between, HoT, Overwatch and wow…
HoT= yes
Overwatch= already hacked to death.
WoW= chunky cheesy graphics.
I have a pet- I am a Ranger.
I have Avatar of Balthazar- I am a Dervish.
Depends on what you want from the game. If you want PvP, then Overwatch by a long shot.
Broadly speaking, if you want PvE, you got 4 big MMOs to chose from: Gw2, WoW, ESO, FFXIV – you won’t chose wrong with any of em.
HoT is absolutely not worth the money, better off buying the next expac (which presumably will also not be worth the asking price) and getting HoT for free.

hi, first of all Quit wow, it sucks. i did last october. the money of that subs you can buy a new game every 4 months (54 euro) for overwatch i dont buy it like now. i am more an fps gamer but i wait for battlefield 1 to come out. till then i stay in gw2. even i am not 100% mmo gamer i bought HoT, i bought gw2 in 2012 but quit few times becouse money making was hard and hard game to learn. but for now i have a goal and i have fun.
before i played battlefield 3 and 4 but much problems with high ping kicks so i tried gw2 again. didnt want to buy a new game. and this game has still awesome graphics so i want to like the game. graphics is prio for me and sounds. further i dont care much, as long as i have fun.
sometimes its a long grind but there are no subs so i can leave the game for 2 weeks and then join again without worry losing money
o and i had read that hot is too expensive for what you get. but when i entered maguuma i know enough. that amezing nice map so much detail i saw in few seconds that its worth the money. maybe the map is small but there is depth its not a flat map so they have put lots of work in it.
sorry for ppl if the text is too long. i always get the complain in battlefield clan so if you dont want to read…
It’s a matter of you valuing your time. Overwatch you can commit to a 5 minute game and leave when you want (just don’t leave every match you join because eventually you incur penalty on exp). GW2 like any other mmos is grindy at its best despite all dev’s opinions on reducing grind.
Think of it this way
OW = have life commitments? no problem
HoT = no life commitments? no problem

I disagree with this. A lot depends on your play style. I prefer large scale open world content, that’s not PvP and so a lot of games really aren’t right for me. Guild Wars 2 provides an experience other MMOs don’t really provide, because the focus of the game is quite different. So you can absolutely go wrong buying a game that doesn’t match your play style.
i didnt like raiding in wow becouse if you want item of end boss you first have to do the whole boring raid. if it doesnt drop you have to clear the whole stuped raid again next week. (exept if you have a save on an alt) but i mean current content.
plus in wow you know what can drop and if it dont drop i got disappointed. for every week it dont drop. and if you go with other ppl that want the same you can lose.
in wod few classes used the same item and stats switch to the talents (spec)
in wow i did old content and every week the same it cost alot of time and if i skip a raid run i felt like i missed a drop. gw2 you add the skin to wardobe. yes wow get this new xpack but its alreadt too late for me
in gw2 i dont know what can drop i see what i get so i am not much disappointed. yes a precursor is possible but everywhere. plus when i want to raid i join a map 15 minutes before spawn and its fine. not a whole raid for nothing. some runs take few hours. gw2 is leave after (world boss) i dont raid in gw2 becouse eh i do other things.
now i stop saying bad things about wow i go play gw2 :P
It’ s not worth the buy.
It’ s too expensive and the content is poor.
I suggest you to save your money for other games or things
I don’t get why this is even a question; OP can play for free and decide for themselves. Trolling?
I don’t get why this is even a question; OP can play for free and decide for themselves. Trolling?
OP already has an account or couldn’t have posted the question. This is OP’s only post, though, so I think he just shares a name with someone else I’ve seen post in the past, with different numbers. He’s asking about buying HoT in particular, not the game as a whole.
That said, Obtena does have a point, OP. You have access to the game, the forums, and the wiki. You can see what people are doing that have HoT (gliding, 4 new legendaries, lucrative meta runs, profession elite trait lines, experiencing the story, exploring 4 complex new maps, mastery tracks that include benefits such as swiftness in cities and auto loot in fights). If you’re not sure how the metas work, check the wiki and put in each map name in turn to get a good summary (Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, Tangled Depths, Dragon’s Stand).
All that gave me many months of things to do since HoT launched and it looks like more is coming in the not too distant future. As I said above, it will depend on what you enjoy spending your time on if you decide between an MMO and an FPS, and on whether you prefer GW2 aesthetics and mechanics or WoW’s when deciding between those two MMO’s. Go to whichever of the three choices offers you in particular the most fun for the longest time if cost is an issue, because you are the only one who can say what you find fun and you’ll want the most fun per dollar you can get.
