Would guild halls make cities deserted?
Did they in GW1?
To some extent, yes, probably some people will stay in guild hall being AFK… but depending on size of your guild, there’s bound to be more activity in cities so naturally they will still see people being there.

I have wondered about that myself, and it does worry me abit. Gating people even further, when this game is sooo big, the fact that you see people everywhere still is amazing, they have done well. It would not have worked with factions tho.
Even low level zones and mid level zones are packed. Cudos.
But time will tell, i don’t think it will be that different from today tho, hopefully we see cities alive and well.
Doubt the world itself will feel dead, since you have to venture out to get anything, you don’t get anything staying in cities today (like epic lootz). The only thing i’m, worried about is cities, but i’m sure Anet has looked at this too
If guild-halls get a mystical forge, all crafting stations, bank-access and a blacklion trading merchant, I have no reason to ever visit a city again, unless there are events. Which is totally fine for me. I visit my friends outside of the guild in WvW only anyways, and since everybody can be invited to your guild-halls, you can host guild-events and social parties there.
Guild-halls are not guild-exclusive. At least it seems so.
Short answer: Probably not.
Shorter answer: Megaservers.
I don’t think GH are going to be a convenient npc/craft hub, especially because theyre trying to make money out of those aiship/terrace passes.
