Hey everybody, as many of you may already be aware, this week has been Guild Week. We have peppered this week with several livestreams relating to upcoming changes to Guilds and the upcoming Guild Halls and will be wrapping up with a final stream tomorrow.

For tomorrow’s stream, we would like to take the opportunity to answer questions you may have that haven’t yet been addressed in the past three streams. Please take this opportunity to post your questions here, and we will get to as many of them as we can on tomorrow’s stream.

I am a part of a long-running small guild, of which only 3 people generally are active at the same time due to time differences. Will it be possible for us to get a guild hall and gain favor?

It’s a guild of trusted IRL friends, and we generally manages to run dungeons on our threesome, but we can’t do the ones where you HAVE to have a certain numbler of people.

I don’t care if it’s slow, but being able to slowly craft and build a guild hall is the main reason we bought the expansion so it would be sad to have it locked behind a people gate.

Can you tell us more about Scribes? Do they do only guild things? Can you level the skill up without a guild? Would you want to?

It seems really odd to have a crafting discipline that only does guild stuff. If that’s all it did, it would be better to make it something you upgrade as part of the guild, like an NPC crafter. So, what’s the full story here?

Also, how will we talk in the guild chat channels? What will the commands be, and will there be keybinds we can set to quickly change what channel we’re talking in?

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Should we prepare before HoT launch, or will we get time to gather in form of a time gate (wait 1 week before building x)

Can we rearrange the order of our guilds or otherwise control which guild gets which number in chat?

In today’s stream there was an offhand comment about individual guild members being able to have their own areas in the hall. Is that actually a mechanic, or more along the lines of something the guild agrees on as to who gets to use which spots?

Even though we can’t sit in/interact with the furniture other than jumping on it, are there racially-specific designs such as Charr bar stools?

It seems obvious that one day there will be other guild hall themes. Is this something you’re aiming for in future expansions, or do you have earlier releases of hall styles in mind?

Will guild bankers still exist outside of the LA office? E.g. the one in the DR bank?

I know Colin really liked the idea from Twitch chat about chests stuffed with items by a guild (and so do I). But I think the actual Twitch idea was that it could be things like the harvesting nodes currently available for home instances, to be placed perhaps at the end of a custom JP as a little reward for completing it. While the custom chest is even cooler, would harvesting nodes be something that could be placed in halls? Would they share the one day cooldown with the home instance, or perhaps be a second place to go to harvest?

Does the guild items vault dynamically reflect how many of an item are needed for available upgrades, such that once all the, say, elder wood planks are donated that item no longer becomes donatable? Is there an easy way to break it down so we can tell that while we need maybe 300 elder wood planks for all upgrades, 50 will be enough for a specific building we’re working on?

Why not let 1-2 player guilds earn favor also on their own? It would not effect bigger guilds for 1-2 players guild to earn some favor too but at a slower pace as bigger guilds would. 1-2 player guilds are not hurting anyone or game at all in any way, just asking for to let us in on some of the fun is all while working towards some of the same goals as bigger guilds will be doing.

No longer I will be able to play my way with the flip flop of the gate/entry barrier of the new Favor system. I will be now forced to group up to earn Favor which is uncool where before I was never forced to group up in order to gain influence.

I already made a thread yesterday here
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Guild-Mission-Favor-problem-for-1-2-p-guilds/page/2#post5556000

Please note: that not all 1-2 players guild are banks guilds just for the extra storage. I do use bonuses/banners and +5 supply buff at supply camps to benefit everyone or home world in WvW.

Will new rank slots be added to a guild roster? It seems like new permissions require many new ranks for a large guild.

Hay,

We are wondering, we have heard you guys say that it takes about 6 to 9 months to unlock all upgrades and about 2 months to unlock the arena. Are we still talking about a guild with the 10 very active members or does my guild with 300+ members also take up 9 months to finish it all or 2 months to unlock the arena?

A bit of clarification would be great!

And if it is possible to answer: With loads of influence how much time will this cut on the upgrades? does it takes hours off or do we need to think in weeks / months?

I just want to highlight that this is the question I most want answered.

If not then when can we expect new PVE guild missions, as we’ve had the current ones for almost 3 years?

We know that Merits and Influence are both going obsolete with HoT. What about guild commendations? Do we need to worry about spending what we have now or will those cross over after HoT is released?

If im invited to another guilds hall and it is the hall that my guild does not choose, can I get that halls specific armor or weapon skins if that guild has everything related to it unlocked? Or do I need to be apart of that guild?

Something a guildie reminded me: Not all of us are on the same server. Will we be able to do WvW guild missions together? If so, how is that going to work?

Hi,

Arena-Qestion:
Seth used his PvE-Build in the arena. Will we use our PvE gear and skills in the arena or is it possible to use the sPvP mechanic for faster and a lot cheaper build-, attributes-, runes-, sigill-swap? The arena will be pretty useless, if anytime i wanna change my build, i have to spent a lot of gold for other equipment.

Decoration-Question:
In the stream basic decoration costs gold, karma and some area-specific currency. I assume there will be a region path in sPvP that rewards the area-currency, but will there be a way via PvP for PvP-Guilds to earn the karma for their basic decoration?

You have a really nice system for instancing both Guild Puzzles and Guild Challenges and I’ve noticed you kind of ignored Guild World Events.

I’m wondering can you use the Guild World Event Token to spawn a separate instance similar to these Guild puzzle and Challenges instance systems so that Guilds can take on the Triple Trouble Wurm and Tequatl in their own instance without having to taxi members around in Megaservers?

Is it the Guild that initiates the Mission/activity only? Do all Guilds get credit? Please give us more information on how small Guilds can acquire the needed currency to obtain and upgrade Guild Halls.

What’s your plan for adding new halls in the future? Will we only see new ones with expansions, or will they also come out in LW releases, or even on their own? Will we get lore explanations that ties into the larger story? Will we get any story for the halls? Also, will the halls occupy space on the world map or will they be more like dungeons?

  • How feasible is it for guilds to liberate their guild hall in the first weekend after launch?
  • Colin said in the stream from yesterday that building your guild hall will take 6-9 months, is this because of the favor cap and/or timegating of aetherium?

Well I would like to congratulate you guys at Anet for the Guild Halls and features associated with it. I think it gives us a good overall view on the expansion.

At first I wasn’t that convinced by a few things with the expansion: mostly that there is only 1 new pvp map and the Tempest spec doesn’t click for me. I would have liked a WvW server system overhaul as well.

On the positive side the new PvE region is very pretty and seems really fun, the new WvW map looks amazing. Revenant is really fun to play and a few of the elite spec are really good, specially the Chronomancer, Reaper and Druid.

But the Guild Halls are just a notch above all of that, you’ve really listened to the suggestions people proposed in the CDI and the result is something that will ultimately is the core of this expansion for the long term. I hope you have more planned for it, perhaps new buildings and different types of arenas.

I have a few:

-Any information about a guild agenda?

-Is there a way to do the “guild-hall claim event” without switching from guild-hall?

- Are there decorations that ca be used to activate another decotation.. Like decoration A is a lamp, decoration B is a switch, you link the two (or they always belong to each other) and now you can use decoration B (the switch) to activate decoration A (the lamp).
This could also be used to make traps in the guild-arena and so on.

- Are there decorations that have movement associated with then (I will not go as far as requesting us to program the movement.. but heey, when you are working on it) that also have collision detection… Think the Skipping Stones JP.

- Are there decorations without collision detection?

- Are there usable doors as decoration?

- Can we put ‘use’ rights on decorations.. Like with the door, so we can allow some people to open the door, or enter a portal, while other can’t.

- On the stream it was said that decorations are not scalable, that this was an upgrade.. but is this also not on the planning, or might we see this happen at some point anyway?

- Any plans on allow guilds for making there guild-hall public.. so like if you make the hall public, every day one of the guilds halls will be at the sport of the guild-hall, free for everybody to go there. Basically to make guild-halls more a physical place on the map?

- Are we also getting new types of PvE guild-missions, so I not not mean anew puzzle or a new rush, I am kind of expecting that, but I mean a completely new guild-mission.

My guild has run cities/towns in games in the past. I see some large wall sections, but are there any “housing” style decorations so we can utilize the impressive amount of map area to build tiny villages/shanty towns/shady districts?

How granular are decoration editing areas? While it’s probably not applicable for a 200 person guild, I’d like to be able to assign “building plots” for individual players or small family groups throughout the map so they have an incentive to keep me busy scribing stuff.

How about personal storage? I know you said you don’t want guild halls to compete with banks, but would it be possible to build maybe a 10-20 slot chest with individual inventory (all such chests would redirect to the same storage space) so people could keep a little something in their “home” without resorting to making bank guilds, but without competing with towns for access to the “main bank”?

Any thought to perhaps an automated reward system for arenas similar to the JP chest idea? Just a box you put items/currency in that is awarded to the winners of a match automatically (if your match uses metrics the game can measure)

How about kicking people? Is it possible to boot troublemakers from the instance once they’ve been ferried in if they’re being disruptive?

Also, I echo the question about guild missions. The system was designed quite some time ago and we haven’t seen any new missions added to it since. With the new focus on guilds, are there plans to utilize the guild hall for new missions, perhaps some only accessible by the guild portal?

Btw, I would like to add I really like what you guys did here. It’s pretty close to what I requested in the CDI.. Sure I asked to build your own guild-hall with a system like the decorations.. now you have a guild-hall and can build stuff inside it.. but as it is now you can basically build a second guild-hall in the guild-hall.. So great job on that!

Also sending guilds into the world to unlock / get decorations is awesome and also requested in the CDI.

In general I think you guys looked very good to the guild CDI’s, or at least happened to have similar idea’s to what was requested there.

Great job here.

- If guild with 30-35 members will focus only on unlocking basic arena (where you can at least fight, without any decorations), will it still take 2 months?

- In Gilded Hollow guild hall, there is a gap around playable arena. Can’t you just add an upgrade which would fill this space and increase the size of arena?

- Tell us more about bigger arena. When can we expect it? 1-2 months? Will you still need a guild hall to unlock this arena?

1.) What is the minimum number of players required to claim the guild hall? (You only talk about the scaling from 5 to 200 players, but can I actually unlock the guild hall alone or with a three players guild?).

2.) What is the minimum numbers of players required to complete an easy guild mission? Does the minimum number depend on the actual mission? (Winning a structured pvp match requires three players, are there guild missions I can complete with less than three players?

3.) Is it more effective to boost my new found guild to unlock ‘Deep Cave’ now, or should I wait?

4.) Can please have the option to make the Guild Hall (and especially the Arena) to a PvP Zone? (Where the pvp ruleset applies, e.g. no pve armor just pvp amulet)

A) In yesterday’s Guild Chat you shared some information about the Scribe. I noticed that the scribe is yet another crafting discipline that uses (low tier) cloth.

Looking at the tradingpost and comparing prices of cloth tiers (cotton/wool/linen vs silk) or cloth-based items vs metal- and especially leather-based items (Damask vs. Mithrillium / Elonian Leather) one can clearly see that there is a huge imbalance.

Having another crafting discipline based on cloth (instead of e.g. the undervalued leather) will increase this imbalance even more.

How will you adress this imbalance?

B) Each guild hall will have its unique set of guild weapons. You already explained that one can obtain both sets by using the multi-guild system or simply by visiting a friend’s guild hall.

Could you provide some more detail on this topic (e.g. which GH level and structures are required to access the material for these weapons)?

Currently it looks like the PvP arena in the GH will.. use PvE gear and ruleset, rendering this place useless for PvP guilds (stats are higher in PvE, there’ll be a difference between people’s gear levels, most Pvp characters aren’t even close to lvl 80 and have no real gear, etc).

Are there any plans to add an option for officers where they can toggle on/off a “PvP mode” for the GH which would make PvP gear take effect? Currently it’s a bit silly that you are excluding the Pvp population from using the guild arena.

I think this is coming from the lore surrounding the guild halls where the mission says you have to be willing to defend the hall once you take it. However, that’s not a game mechanic, there is no “decay” of the hall if you leave it unattended, as I understand it.

The Guild Hall decoration system is great for Guilds, but what about something more personal. Will this feature be transitioned in some way to our personal instances?

Somewhere there is a thread where a particular decoration was asked for. Are we going to have something, some way, in the Guild Hall to remember lost Guild mates?

Along those same lines, or possibly the same decoration. Will we have a way to recognize certain Guild members or Officers?

Will we be able to put mining/foraging/lumbering nodes in our Guild Hall?

Also, how will we talk in the guild chat channels? What will the commands be, and will there be keybinds we can set to quickly change what channel we’re talking in?

This was actually answered. I will give you an example to explain it. Say you are a member of 5 Guilds. They will be listed and each will have a number G1, G2, G3 and so on.

So, you want to say something in your #3 Guild. The command for map chat is /m, the command for chatting in your #3 Guild is /G3. When someone talks to you it will show you which Guild they are representing the same way, for instance G3 if they are in that one.

you can’t fix stupid

What happens to upgrades currently being researched when the switch happens?

I am going to now try to pay gold to get my personal guild to upgrade to deep cave for storage with my existing influence…. But if I am currently building and you do the switch, what happens to my upgrade?

If I just have the architecture upgrade and have a personal guild, how do I think unlock the actual cave?
