WvW, PvP, PvE item only Legendaries as well?

With the new Legendary backpacks and new Legendaries weapons announced as having a requirement to do Fractals in order to get parts for them, will some future Legendaries instead require other game modes only items instead in order to be made?
Say, Legendaries that require heavy WvW, or PvE, or PvP tasks/play? They would be different items of course, with different skins or whatever, but still Legendaries.
I hope it’s not all locked away behind Fractals only. Why was this game mode anointed as the special child for new Legendaries, but not others?

It’s the one that has the most variability in tasks that you can do.

You already need to play WvW for legendaries.
Or am I mistaken?

You can get the tokens via the daily wvw rewards chest. I don’t really consider porting to WvW and killing an npc or standing at a ruin for 30 seconds as ’playing WvW" lol.

I would so love a WvW legendary. SPVP I do not care for too much, though I do play it a bit, but WvW would be great for me.

To be honest getting the title Champion Brawler should give a legendary, I do not think anyone in the game has achieved it yet. :P

Not to mention with the pvp reward tracks you can get the tokens to get your gift for the old legendaries. And eotm makes it easy for those who don’t want to really wvw to get badges. Locking new legendaries to fractals only seems against the spirit of this game. I don’t mind if there is a particular back piece legendary that is fractal only. That’s cool and all, but I would hope there are ones you can get outside of fractals.
Not that I really care about this because I don’t really care about legendaries generally and would probably not bother getting one even if it was outside of fractals. I’m just saying it does really suck for those who want the new legendaries and hate fractals.
Now the thing I am concerned about is that ascended water breather recipe. You better be able to put that on the tp because it’s unfair for something like that to be locked behind fractals. We don’t even have an exotic version for god’s sake.

The Winterday pvp track has an exotic breather. It’s the only one in the game as far as I’m aware.
As regards the Legendary, yeah, that’s what I’m hoping for. I have no problem with thier being a fractal only legendary backpiece, but other play modes should get thier own as well – wvw, pvp, pve. Maybe a guild one? Or region ones – maguuma, ascalon, kryta, etc. They can have lots of options and ways to get them – just not a single one only though.

I take it that only unlocks during wintersday? Or is it unlockable any time? It’s only water breathers I suppose and underwater combat is not a big thing, but it severely annoys me how I have complete ascended on my main except for that kitten rare water breather.

Yeah. I imagine it’ll be back each year though. Gave this: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ultimate_Wintersday_Gift
If you picked the Ancient Mariner’s Oilcloth Bag you could pick an exotic breather.

Yup, I would love a pvp reward track. I would not expect it to offer the best things like those fancy new skins, but it would be nice to have some fractals rewards available at least.

And you would have people complain about how much of a grind it is compared to PvE.

i don’t understand why people think that you will get the legendary backpiece from only doing fractals. the article clearly states that you’ll have to go through the WHOLE PRECESS OF MAKING A LEGENDARY in order to make it.
Fractal-Back
Introducing Legendary BackpacksGuild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns players will now have the option of starting a new journey…a legendary journey. A guide will appear in Mistlock Observatory to help point players in the direction of new types of challenges, timed boss encounters, and collections of items to obtain both inside and outside of the fractals. Together with any of the armor crafting professions (armorsmith, leatherworker, or tailor), you’ll start with a simple new backpack and build it into the new precursor back item. Just like all future precursor and legendary items, this precursor will be account bound and can’t be traded—it must be earned. A new series of achievements and collections will track your progress on your quest.
The one final step of taking your precursor and transforming it into the legendary backpack is called Ad Infinitum. However, we’ll come back to discuss how that component works—and how it ties into our next steps for the Fractals of the Mists within Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns—in the future. For now, though, I can tell you that just like existing legendary items, players will need to collect components from all over Tyria. To craft each stage of the precursor backpack, players will need to obtain a new salvage item from ascended equipment

Making the existing legendaries already requires you to:
You also used to be required to do daily achievements for mystic coins, but now those come from just logging in.
My point is legendaries have always been ‘gated’ behind several kinds of content, and there’s no reason to think the new ones will be any different.
Yes you will have to play Fractals to get the item/s from Fractals. There will not be a work-around, just like there aren’t for many of the other items. But it will also be just one part of the process – it’s not going to be a matter of grinding Fractals until you get a legendary or some kind of special short-cut for people who play Fractals a lot.

Making the existing legendaries already requires you to:
- Play WvW to at least rank 14
- Play at least 1 dungeon or PvP for dungeon tokens
- Get 100% map completion
- Get 2 crafting professions to level 400

There is a short cut…. the Ascended salvage. Unless ascended trash rings get a drop increase in the lower levels, farming high level fractals (which have a significant cost of entry via AR augmentation) would be the only time/cost effective way to obtain the new required mats. Right now it sounds like the mats are RNG based; which directly hints that you’ll need a non-trivial amount of salvage to get enough to do crafting.
And since obtaining ascended items are extremely expensive via the other means, and the recently renewed value from stat changing, means the ultra rare nature of ascended gear in the rest of the game practically requires you to fractal farm over a given period.
The question that would answer people’s concern is how they intend provide salvage for new entrants of Fractals. Its pretty much the same situation when Ascended armor came out, as only those with huge pre-existing stocks of material could reasonably pursue crafting a set. Thats why I can easily see the same problem happening here again, where fractal farmers would see the task as trivial, but new entrants would have to invest both time, and possibly large amounts of gold, to reach the stride level of fractals that would drop enough gear to use as salvage.

Ah, see the issue here is you’re talking about how to get it quickly, or at least as quickly as people who regularly play higher level Fractals before the update. I was just talking about how to get it at all.
In that case yes I agree that people who play Fractals a lot will have an advantage in this respect, but I don’t see it as an issue. It doesn’t mean other people can’t get it, or will have to put more effort in, it just means they’ll be starting on it later.
But the same post said that new legendaries will require items from all over the game, so it might be that once we know all the requirements people who play Fractals a lot are on here complaining that getting ascended items to salvage is easy but other parts take far too long and forces them to grind a game mode they hate. Which would once again put them back on par with existing legendaries.
For example when I came to make mine I had a lot of people giving me advice on how to get enough Obsidian, because apparently that’s something a lot of people struggle with. But for me that was a non-issue, I had a huge stockpile of karma built up and played on a very active server (this was pre-megaservers) so it was just a matter of going to the Temple of Balathazar on a random weeknight at peak time (when I took it for granted the temple would be open) and spamming the merchant until I thought I had enough.
Then later on I had to do the same dungeon several times, which to me felt like grinding, whilst listening to people in guild chat talking about what to do with all the excess dungeon tokens they had built up.

pfff might as well just make the game all PVP and be done with it… seems what all the crybabies want…dont even got to do dungeons to get dungeon specific items now… just hop into a pvp room and fight club your way to the top with no effort…
i dont like working, yet i have to do it to get the things i want in life… how about just sucking it up, and spend a few mins doing those things to get it hmm?
