[WvW] Why are you removing content?

Confirms that current WvW borderland map will be removed from WvW and replaced with new desert map. The current WvW map may return for special events in the future.
Why does ANet do this stuff? Why do you remove existing content when you release new content? I’m sure the new map will be enjoyable, but I’m also sure there will be a large number of people that want to still play on the current borderland maps. Why remove that choice from players, and potentially damage the WvW system by restricting player options?
Completely confused by this design choice.

what would you have them do then? have 7 wvw maps at one time, spreading out the already small wvw playerbase even thinner?
I’m tired of the vanilla borderlands, so I see this as a welcome chance.
Don’t get me wrong, I do want them to bring back the vanilla borderlands map at some point, but I don’t mind not having access to it when HoT comes out, not at all.
The WvW playerbase isn’t small, someone here is high as a kite.

Maybe it is small on his server?

It is in everything that isn’t tier 1, 2 or 3.
Hell even in tier 2 and 3 it’s very often completely deserted in the WvW maps in off-peak hours.
They are only removing it temporarily,

i agree i think they r removing them for a short time . so players wont speard on all maps and all focuses on desert map so it allways will have so many players , so for new players who r joining gw 2 they see huge amount of players in desert mp, but when this map got boring and people got used to it after a while they bring back those borderlands so people can do them too and people will get excited about them too .. i think …. XD
I don’t see why they can’t just rotate between the new borderlands and the old borderlands. Obviously the old BL’s will have to be updated with the new improvements to dolyaks and the additions of the shrines and such. Maybe have it on a six-week rotation or something. That’ll keep things fresher than introducing new borderlands every 2-3 years or so.
Adding a rotation at some point sounds like a pretty good idea actually.
Rotation 2weeks new, 2 weeks old would be ok for me, cuz changing whole 3bl every week would be tiring if there won’t be smooth stealth process. I can understand that new bl will have his 5minutes to accommodate/tame us even for 2-3months without rotate.
Removal of content is never a good idea! It was always followed by player grief (cough Living Story) and it takes away the choice.
What is now left for us who do not want a EotM-y PvE jumping puzzle, but want to continue with our WvW experience? Only EB?
Maybe they are removing it so they can revamp the “traditional borderlands” maps?
I’ve seen far more people say they are bored with WvW than those who don’t want change.
What’s the big deal if they “remove” (temporarily) a set of maps that have been in use for 2.5 years? These maps have a VERY specific reason for existing (playing WvW) and it’s not like they are removing PvE world zone.
They were VERY clear that the new maps will REPLACE the old ones for a time and then the old maps could be brought back for some type of rotation or special event.

I’m sure they’re going to rework the old maps some before they bring them back in some way. And it’s best to do that AFTER they see how the changes to the new maps work.

I’m sure we’ll see them again, but I think a lot of people can agree that they could use some updating.

Thats seems to be what they are thinking a rotation. They just want to only have the new borderland with HoT’s release for a time because it’s new. I can imagine the complaints of how you can’t even play HoT content few weeks after after release.
Because that map has always sucked? It’s basically built like an elongated circle with only two choke points on the entire map where zergs might by chance, meet, on occasion; while mindlessly circling the map flipping objectives and hoping the point gain timer favors them more than their opponents.
Now this map certainly doesn’t fix all of the game mode’s problems (not even close in fact…) but at least the mindless zergs are more likely to meet each other in combat whether by accident or design.

I think we’ve known since the official HoT announcement that the new BL would replace the current BL. It has also been said repeatedly that the old BL (alpine) would come back. Rotations have been mentioned, tournaments have been mentioned. I don’t think they have that specific aspect nailed down, but they have assured it that it will return.
This approach allows wvwers to spend some time with the new map (something they’ve been asking for). It also allows anet to work on upgrading the old map with some of the new tech when they get the time. If it were left live in conjunction with the new map, you know people would harp on them about upgrading it. Additionally, this doesn’t make for more maps to cover for some of the thinner wvw populated servers.
I don’t really see an issue with their approach honestly.
The new WvW borderlands maps will fix design issues since game launch. I’m very glad they’re changing them, and replacing this current CRAP we have. Blob vs. blob is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen in the game. And I LOVED stability changes to melt down stability-empowered blobs, now players have to actually THINK.
Nicely done, ArenaNet, keep up the awesome work. Just ignore the whiners.
Granted I clearly didn’t pay attention to the announcement, but I’m pretty sure I heard something about a borderland rotation?

The biggest dream I could have for WvW: Alpine map reworked to have a similar feeling than Desert map, so they’ll bring a 3rd map in the rotation. To each map its geography, theme, and objectives.
