XP post masteries
your xp bar stops filling up.so ye xp does nothing.
Check your spirit shard count. I don’t know if it’s going up. But, remember not to count the things that reward shards other ways. I haven’t completed my masteries, and it’s hard to tell, but I think I’m still earning spirit shards.
After maxing masteries, your XP is for the birds (or for the cat, if you’re German)
its mastery’s and you mastered your xp bar. time to move on and master something else.

Are you sure of this? Do you mean we won’t get spirit shards (from XP) any more? Is that official?
We didn’t get Spirit Shards after the change to what became Hero Challenges (pre-HoT release), so I would not expect we would get them after having completed all Masteries.
It has been stated, though, that new Mastery Tracks will be added, so….

Unfortunately yes. You get spirit shards as random loot I believe, and from champ bags sometimes like skill point scrolls formerly. Kinda lame that experience always used to get you something at max level, and now once you max masteries you don’t even get spirit shards for it… but it is balanced by random loot chances anyway.

What’s the source of your info? Have you finished your masteries and then seen no more shards?
Thanks!
I have finished my central Tyrian masteries. I still see XP value pop-ups on making kills, but the bar stays empty.
It’s a bit disconcerting. It changes the way I play. I don’t stop to help with events anymore when I run by one, for example, because it feels pointless.
Bummer.
ANet: You’ve got to change this. This destroys a huge reason to continue playing once you maxed out masteries.
Would be nice to get Spirit shards after Masteries are maxed out. Or perhaps add a “Spirit shard” option below the groups of Masteries that would fill up just like Mastery bars. While selected this bar progresses toward earning a spirit shard just as previously. Masteries save the amount of progress made towards a level up and the Spirit shard bar could do the same, allowing us to switch to and from at will.
That way by default we will gain Mastery experience unless we specifically choose Spirit shards, but if for whichever reason Spirit shards are more desirable than Mastery exp we would be fully capable of choosing to earn Spirit shards instead.
Bummer.

Well, we continued playing after the change to hero points and spirit shards (our xp at level 80 was useless months before HoT release).
They should really bring back the Skill Points on level up option. Maybe a new mastery?
Bummer.

Getting exp on a level 80 did nothing from the June 23rd changeover from skill points to hero points/spirit shards till the start of the expansion. From that date to the start of the expansion a level 80 got nothing for gaining exp. if you didn’t notice it back then, it must not of been that bad.
ANet may give it to you.

I suggested this months ago (when they changes skill points to hero points), but Anet didnt listen. They ignored it. They will now too (sadly).
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
But we WERE getting shards. Do you mean you suggested it in anticipation of masteries?
Bummer.

No, I was gaining shards daily, at a rate beyond the 3/day from the daily rewards.
No, you weren’t. Unless you had some freakishly-lucky bug on your account. Maybe you confused the Shards from drops with dinging a level. Dunno.
I’ll have to pay attention. And a huge crippling of the game that didn’t come via HoT (although, it was almost certainly in preparation for what was coming).
Why? Why would they do something to cripple long-term playing?
I had the crazy thought that instead of spirit shards, which I don’t use, completing a full bar of xp at level 80 (after completing all masteries) could instead give me a mastery point to use at some future time when more masteries are added.
I use shards every day to convert materials in the mystic forge. Plus, you need a bunch to craft vision crystals, which are required for ascended armor.

Fair enough. I don’t craft ascended so maybe there’s a way we could both benefit – what if some number of spirit shards could be crafted into a mastery point in the forge?
Bummer.

But not from leveling.
Shards are only from dailies, bags, tomes after level 80, Dessa’s experimental journal and random drops. When they separated skill points into hero points and spirit shards, after level 80 there was no reward for leveling and only hero points (not shards) before level 80.
ANet may give it to you.

Absolutely don’t get why Arena-net didn’t think of this, they can’t possibly add new mastery tracks fast enough to keep up, especially if (like me) you aren’t planning on raiding yet, the new track is locked until you kill some bosses in the raid, so for people that are done with masteries XP is completely worthless, why can’t as many suggest they just add a repeatable mastery that grants you a spirit shard when you complete it?

That seems to be a surprisingly ubiquitous issue.

While I get what they’re trying to do, it’s disappointing that it doesn’t at least show you what’s in the track, to help you decide if it’s worth getting into raiding.

That is such a simple yet brilliant idea. Maybe that’s the problem. It’s too simple, too elegant.
