Lack of caring, people keep saying it takes time. It really doesn’t, their PR department should have whipped something together 48 hours ago and give it to whom ever the poor soul is that has to release it to the public. It’s actually common practice.

That’s a pretty good summary of the reactions, and a nice appeal to reason at the end.

I take issue with one of the article’s comparison points, however, namely using ArcheAge as an example of what pre-purchasers got. The things offered were altered in actual play to lesser versions or outright removed without warning (the full length cape became butt length, the cash shop discount never materialized), and at launch they offered better packages to new purchasers, while strongly encouraging pre-purchase up to the very last moment.

ANet may have goofed up a bit, but they aren’t shady slimebuckets out to bilk their customers and encourage griefing and scamming as part of the game. ArcheAge should not be in any way used to show “better” business practices because that discredits the article author’s credible insight no end.

I agree and don’t agree with her opinion on whether its worth lashing out, she really has no right to tell others what they should lash out about.

I do agree that the people attacking individuals at Anet are in the wrong, some poor art designer who had nothing to do with any of this getting his/her face ripped off because of it ? That part should not happen.

Like the article said, judge with your wallets. Why no one has come up front and said “hey, we screwed up” is beyond me. But yeah, I’m going to wait until we get a full detailed description of what we are getting for the minimum of $50. Unfortunately with Anet moving like they are, it’s going to be like pulling teeth to get info. Not really the best news you want before an expansion.

Ff14 is never used in any kind of comparison because of the gigantic flop it was and how many people lost money initially buying it. The script gets flipped on it so often they just let it be

Only A Realm Reborn is doing incredibly well and Heavensward, which is cheaper than HoT by the way, comes out next week. Stop thinking of the original FFXIV.

Yet I played every FF game up until I got burned on FFXIV so that was the end all of FF games for me. Will probably never play another FF again due to that.

I even got closed beta to a realm reborn, got into every beta, but they still burned me. I played ff11 for over 4 years and got nothing for getting burned on a realm reborn.

Some fans stuck by them but I can tell you as a long time fan of the FF franchise, FF will never be the same for me.

Sad thing is people are feeling the same way about this game..

ONE bad experience with the original FFXIV MMO and you’re now hating on the entire FF franchise. Sad thing is that people can feel that way without actually giving the games a chance.

Correct. As a long time fan who felt he got burnt so bad that it changed my whole outlook on the entire franchise. I also stated I got into every closed beta and played the open betas to a realm reborn. So I did give it a chance. To me that still wasn’t for me to throw money at another game and also pay a monthly fee on top of that. FF11 will always be the top FF game for me at that time seeing as I did play it for so long. It stopped there for me though and FFXIV was what caused it for me.

So I gave up on one franchise and found another. Another game that has given me more hours the of fun than any paid sub fee or even free to play game, has ever gave me. That game is called Guild Wars 2. I thank Guild wars 2 for saving me tons of money where if I didn’t find this game I would probably be playing another MMO and throwing monthly fees at it.

I tried many other MMO type games after I left FF. Aion, D&D, LoTR, Everquest, Lineage and WoW. WoW stop after lich king for me. Even bought D3 and also the expansion on top of that yet I got bored of that game pretty fast. Thing is this game hasn’t bored me yet and don’t really see me getting bored of it anytime soon.

The first article is 100% perfect imo.

There are mistakes but it’s by far no reason to create a kittenstorm like they were adding monthly subscriptions.

TL:DR Version of the article:

The FAQ change was mean and everyone has a right to complain about this.
The pricing is in a fair margin, even though it can be considered a bit higher than it could be. Still no reason for such a kitten storm.
You had fun with the game until now and the price for the expansion was firm. No reason to complain there as a veteran. (People who bought because of the FAQ fall under category 1, right to complain) (read the Skyrim analogy in the article if you just can’t get it in your head)
If you know you will buy it anyway, buy it now. If not just wait for more details. No reason to discuss about content yet. (Usual preorder behaviour)

And my favourite quote:
“Am I going to get about 50 hours of fun out of it? If yes, then it’s worth the cost… if no, then I’ll not buy it: End of story,” he declared. “It being a Guild Wars 2 game, I’m pretty sure there is more than 50 hours of fun gameplay in it."

End of story.

$50 for the expansion would have been fine with me had it included a character slot, the lack of such is just a marketing trick to make us by the expansion for 75-100 instead. And they get away with this, they will do it again with other Gem store shenanigans.

I don’t agree with briggah.7910 very often but for some people a first impression is a very important thing, and it can define your feeling towards something forever.

I lost money because I paid for a bunch of months since I didn’t wanna whip out my CC every month. Game was so bad I don’t even think I lasted the first full month. That was my own fault because that was the choice I made. It opened my eyes though and I found better games that do not require you to pay a monthly fee..

oh you mean you didnt enjoy ARR, and bought game time ahead of time. The other poster was talking about the original game which didnt actually charge a fee for like 8 months? because they were still in re development.
I personally stopped playing around that time.

i tried it again recently and it was pretty fun to me, but then the people i was playing with had real life issues so i dropped it.

For me, for sub games, i will always pay month to month now. It better ensures i always get the value i want, and not a big deal if i lose interest
