If you start at the beginning or relatively early into a meta-event cycle and do events until finish, that should net you 200%. No tricks beyond that.

As for masteries, getting buffs help. Guild XP buff, food, utility item, + some others stack with each other. The extra 10-25% adds up.

Participation % doesn’t directly level up masteries any quicker… it just means you get better rewards when the meta event ends… these rewards include more xp (I think), so it’s still worthwhile. (AFAIK, anything above 100% doesn’t give you better rewards… it just gives a buffer for participation degradation)

In terms of leveling masteries… load yourself up with xp bonus buffs, my reply to one of your previous posts has a link to what you need.

Participation is simply based on event completion. In-world adventures also count as events.

As for leveling, if you have XP boosters, the special kind that gives a % bonus to any experience gained and not just kills, use them, then run through all of the adventures. Adventures are the fastest source of experience (regardless of boosters) for the time spent, assuming you can efficiently do them, though they are limited to once a day. Their first time reward bonus is the best time to use a booster, and parking an alt to only run through select adventures is the best way to efficiently use a booster.

You unfortunately need a good chunk of free time and need the good luck to find a well dedicated map. One of the major issues with HoT maps is that they require a great deal of time to push from start to finish, and they need many like minded players on at the same time which sometimes leads to “dead” maps where there are few meta events done due to low player population and the event starts anyway because its on a timer.

Next months HoT update just cannot come soon enough it seems.

The first trick is: you don’t need 200% to get the full rewards; 100% is fine (the excess allows for some wiggle room, if you get side-tracked by too many ori nodes or something).
