which idiot thought of the idea to only allow so many into the map just before an event , i dont always go but when you are on the map and waiting to do the run through it , and your with others , and then you die and come back to the map and your not in the same instance !!!
its bloody annoying if your trying to do quests and achievements and then suddenly you cant because the maps suddenly empty !!
also considering there are really hardly any runs in the day , you have to wait until one has become available its frustrating !!!

When you die or DC, your place should be held for a minute or 2 so you can get back on the same map.

It can hold like 90 or so. That’s more than enough for the meta.

People getting kicked off is the meta map resetting which you can tell by the timer in the top right corner.

Join a squad, problem solved. If you are solo and d/c you will lose your spot. If you are in a squad your spot is saved for 2 minutes. Unless we are talking the 2 hour fixed reset (or the reset 15 minutes after killing Mordi). That’s intended and small hint since I see this all the time:"one mordremoth dies and the 15 minute treasure time begins you can/t reenter the map once you leave no matter if it has spots or not to prevent loot sharing.

True, getting all the achievements done can take a few runs. Absolute minimum 3, for each lane 1, more realistically 9-10.

also considering there are really hardly any runs in the day , you have to wait until one has become available its frustrating !!!

I can only speak for EU, but the map still runs almost every 2 hours unless maybe right during the middle of the night. Be sure to check the lfg close to times when the fixed 2 hour reset is. You won’t find maps inbetween those times since everyone who wants to complete the map usually joins at the fixed restart time.

But that seems to be the problem for OP. It happened to me a few times already. You get to the map in time, you join a squad, then wait for the meta to start. Dragon kicks everybody, you end up dead at the far east side of the map, as intended. But, you are alone, or with a handful other people, you look at the squad window and realize you are in a different instance now. You right-click the leader and try to join his instance, but you get the message that it’s already full.

Last time the squad got split up over at least three instances, and not everybody made it back to the original instance. This is the problem, and it sucks. Once I was dead in the right instance, ported to the closest waypoint and then ended up in a different instance. Joining a squad does not solve the problem.

It does if the commander pays attention to what is happening on the current map. If I get to a map with my squad that is already full and >10 people cannot join I always switch to one of their emptier maps. (I stay on the map if it’s only a handful, because they usually get in after a few seconds/minutes.)

Sometimes two or three comms with full squads get thrown onto the same map. That spells frustration, because in all of their squads probably half of the people won’t be able to join. So instead of staying and playing it safe with 3 comms it’s better to take your group to a new map. There are always people who are willing to put up a tag. I’ve yet to see one of my maps fail because of this.

Commanders who are willing to organize DS should also be willing to switch to an empty map if many of the people in their squad can’t join. If you have a tag yourself as one of the people in the squad, offering to lead one of the lanes will solve the situation very quickly.

Just don’t flame the commanders, it’s not really their fault the situation after reset is so chaotic.

So do the commanders’ actions have an impact on the problem or not? I don’t think so, it shouldn’t technically happen that squads are split up at this point.

In a way. Unless I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you meant the map reset. When the new map starts and everyone gathers at the entrance and waits patiently for the end of the world.

What I meant is that the commanders could help to improve the situation. Scenario: 2 full squads, 50 ppl each. Both comms end up on the same map at reset. In both squads ~20 ppl can’t join because the map is full. Now if one commander switches to another map, both can get their complete squad onto theirs instead of leaving many ppl stranded on a few empty maps. No more frustration. Or less at least.

I thought that was what you were referring to. I do it all the time and, apart from a few ppl who rage quit as soon as they see one “map is full”, it always works just fine. Remaining spots on both maps fill fast via lfg.

Wouldn’t it be great (and far more logical than the current situation) if the system automatically put one squad in one map and the other squad in the other? I honestly can’t imagine why Anet didn’t set it up this way in the first place.

And then it creates multiple maps instead of a full one. No thanks.

Because the map has three lanes and most maps have 3 squads. Almost every map I’ve played has 3 commander tags on it, one for each lane.

Initially it does. But these fill in no time. There are far more people waiting to play DS than what you can get into 1 or 2 maps. Actively trying to go to a new map instead of leaving half of your squad stranded makes it better for everyone.

And once the expansion hits? It’s be pretty annoying for squads to be sent to separate maps when there’s only enough for just one map. This may even be the case during certain times of the week.

All that this is doing is creating extra work on Anet, and in players, when the outcome is really not all different with many players. There’s really no difference between three squads of 30 players being put onto a map versus with 90 un-squaded players being put onto another map.

If you want to be on the map of those squads then join them. If the map is full then join another. If there isn’t another, the suggestion to split up the squads is already pointless as they’d all merge into one map instance anyway.

I don’t see the need to change this when players can either join those squads or create their own and use the LFG. If there’s so many players that do this every cycle, it shouldn’t be a problem to fill your map.

Btw, I didn’t suggest to change the current behaviour. I was merely suggesting that commanders can improve the current situation by taking their squad to another map if half of them can’t join the current one. Which was the original topic of this thread: people being stranded on non-organized maps when there would be plenty to fill another one.

It works well every time for me and leaves less people frustrated. Hopefully.

Sorry. Yeah, it was another player that had suggested that behavior and I kind of lumped it in with yours since you responded to my post addressing them.

That doesn’t make sense either. If they did that now you have a map that has an empty lane. The people who can’t get in should form a separate squad in another instance.

What should happen is that when a map is full people remove their ad from the LFG.

If anything needs fixing it would be a situation where there are two groups of people in two different instances(you can extrapolate this to any number of groups and instance combinations) which does have enough people but when combined they would be enough. How do you get those groups to become aware of each other’s existence and to merge them into one instance?
