[feedback] HoT failed...
Oh, yeah, almost forgot – DH rulez )
I’m inclined to disagree, the events were very good. Most of them were just bugged this beta weekend. I find them a more fresh and interesting experience than how Silverwastes did it (nothing against SW, it’s a nice map). Rather than having one central event, there are a variety of things you can go do. You could help the Itzel, grab Pact supplies, help capture outposts, etc. Also, using rifles is 100% optional.
Yeah don’t know where you’re coming from OP, I really liked the events in the new zones, particularly when it was night.
OP you’re not going to be persuading anyone if you just criticize the game “boring”, “guessable”, and “big and boring circle”.
Seriously.
One thing I dislike about HoT were the events.
They have no depth. I want to do a event in one zone, then come back to that very same zone and get an entirely new event that I haven’t seen before. ANet isn’t adding a lot of new zones in favor to make each new zone have more depth to it. I could care less if each event changes the map. I just want new events when I come back to it.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
i will spend money, and buy the most expensive packs, and then i won’t play for years, waiting for next addon, believing in"Now, when 5-6 years passed, they DO know how pve should look like! they will make it!"
This is why they have no incentive to work harder to please you.

but if i wont play → i won’t buy in-store items → they wont have profit :ccc
I left feedback saying I thought the ‘sniper rifle’ event you spoke of went on too long (so I agree with you there), that and the ‘lay eggs’ event was a little too long too. I enjoyed the rest though and it seems like you did too – remember they removed a lot of the story elements and events deliberately so we have more to see at launch.
OP you’re not going to be persuading anyone if you just criticize the game “boring”, “guessable”, and “big and boring circle”.

Yes, i should’ve provided more details, but people, that played beta should understand me
The thing i want to see something.. global!.. in pve zones. It’s easy to describe every event like “kill mobs”, i know it’s not like it, but it’s what you do in events, and in SW there was “kill mobs, so they won’t kill your forts, so you will faster start the killing of big boss”
there was global goal fo the whole zone, so every movement you’ve did there – was to achieve the goal!
i haven’t found goal in bwe zone :c

Totally agree, but i’m REALLY afraid, that there will be just more “too long events”

But it’s hard to fix “boring” without knowing what made it boring. Was it too long or too tedious or what?

The reason you haven’t found the goal yet in the BWE is because you only have a portion of the zone to play in, but if you really want to know what the goal is, I can tell you. The goal will be to gather the scattered PACT troops, build up defenses and hold camps, befriend the locals and learn their secrets to surviving in the jungle against the natural dangers and Mordermoth minions…finally culminating in your battle against Mordremoth himself at some point in the future…and that’s only part of the goal(s), there are more of them coming.

That’s one problem right there. The new maps are suppose to be all about events right? And even now so many maps in GW2 have bugged events, after almost three years!!

By percentage, the number of bugged events is pretty small. There are a handful, but there are well over 1500 events. There’ll always be bugs in every game. That’s the nature of the beast.

I’ve read the interview too, 1500 in total, I dont think thats 1500 in just pve. And whenever I enter a map for daily event there are always some bugged, some have been bugged for a long time.
Some events dont matter much, but the chained events not working kinda sux. It would hurt hot a lot.
Dear Arena Net,
<emotiaonalPart>
I REALLY like game your team created – it’s enormous. The ideas your programmers made true are fantastic. But your game designers.. or level designers – i don’t really get whom should make pve locations – failed.
That’s what i’ve seen from BWE
</emotionalPart>Events:
Boring. Especially the one with sniper rifles
Make the one, who created Silverwastes lead level designer, please – he knows what to do with pve map!Map itself
It was interesting, but it’s not really guessable (when you visit map first time and don’t have gliders or else), that the bridge (bottom of the map) could be not destroyed (it was, when i came), so i was forced to make pretty big and boring circle, to get to boring rifle eventsMobs:
They, actually, were fun! Especially these little raptorsDon’t get me wrong, but there were 3 years since start of GW2, and i was really looking forward for this addon, but if the whole addon is that boring, or only 1 zone is interesting, like silverwastes, then… i don’t know… i love the idea too much :c
Whom i’m trying to fool?! i will spend money, and buy the most expensive packs, and then i won’t play for years, waiting for next addon, believing in"Now, when 5-6 years passed, they DO know how pve should look like! they will make it!"
So, please, Arena Net, don’t let me spend money on air! Make Pve zones really interesting! i like wvw, pvp, but MOST i like pve, and i want to see really interesting PvE zones
Regards!
As a day 1 GW2 player I have to agree with you.
We waited so long for the expansion and there are still missing SO MANY things.
I dont want to go into detail but for example almost all elite specializations are …. meh it kinda looks like they just thought what weapons are ppl not using thats why we got so many shield specializations. And they kinda suck.
If you look at the ele he can use now F1 F2 F3 and F4 but he gets a huge cooldown on switching attume again and every ele player nows, this is a huge dps lose for pvp and pve!
But I dont want to go too much into detail so
yes hot is meh, but I play it anyways.
So far GW2 felt like D3 at the beginning it really sucked, and patch after patch it got better. After the expansion it took a huge step into right direction and with the upcoming patch it gets better too.
So I just wait it out…

I’d be a happy camped if they brought back templates back from gw1. Out of combat switching for the right situation, gimme gimme

There aren’t that many dynamic events in WvW and there are none in PvE or in personal stories. There are a couple of random one in dungeons but not many. Even if you say 1400 events, it’s a lot (as many events as there were quests in all of Guild Wars 1) and that doesn’t count any of the events added afterwards.
I do find bugged events, occasionally, but not all the time. I don’t think every map has bugged event as you claim, and I’m not sure there are 50 bugged events over all even. It’s still a small percentage.
But right now, we’re complaining about bugged events in a beta anyway. If you don’t expect bugs in beta, I’m not sure what to tell you. I expect bugs in beta.

Bugs in beta ok, there where a lot in gw1 beta. HoT one map with bugged events, meh. How many events are there on this map?
The events themselves were interesting, but I found that I’ve seen them all within an hour or two.
However, you can’t judge whether something has failed when you haven’t even seen the complete version. You saw a beta.
The bridge only appeared broken. It was a graphics glitch. It appeared destroyed but it was actually still there, there was nothing wrong with it. In other words you made your "big boring circle’, for nothing :-)
Confused how someone can say something failed in a BETA stage that had bugs because it’s beta and also was only a fraction of the playable area. Seems a bit abrupt.
That being said the fraction that I got to ENJOY was amazing. I like the day and night cycle. the adventures on the map. The events. Was a great beta! Can’t wait to test and ENJOY more.

Yeah, i’ve seen just beta version of map
But let’s try to remember bwe before release
Anyone do?
there were boring maps, like that one, and everyone though “naaah, its just a beta, after release we’ll see what its like!”
But after release every other zone were boring, like the ones demonstrated
and that’s why i’ve judging right after the beta, because it’s already been like it: boring beta = boring release
And yeah, i like gameplay, not story\lore things, it’s just it – i like to do something, not to watch
story part of.. EVERYTHING! in gw2 is pretty cool (but some of my story lovers tell me it isn’t good enough), but gameplay part (except of SW) looks like “kill 10 boars and there… won’t be 10 boars” “kill 10 majesctic boars so!.. they.. won’t.. kill farmers!”
there are really good events (i remember most of them from the 1 day, they could’ve been changed a little): all 6 statues chain events are really cool! (at the orr), SW is cool, but others… can’t remember other cool ones…
thats it – i hope zone won’t be boring as it look like right now, but at release it was exactly like i told: boring beta → boring release

Except that you had exactly none of the temples in Orr in the GW 2 beta, because you couldn’t get to Orr on those betas. The events that you think were really cool, many of them weren’t in beta. I don’t think we got any further than Gendarran Fields in the Guild Wars 2 BWEs.
You have to remember what a beta is. I personally think that the ideology is really good, and they do a great job making it them a reality. There were tons of bugs, but again. It’s a beta. They use the betas to find bugs and later on fix them… Don’t expect a finished product.

you are absolutely right!
but…
99% of content was like beta
and 1% was not
and Sw were added much later
I say it one more time: GW2 potential is AWSAME!!
they are moving in right direction
slowly.. too much slow, but they do

and i’m just afraid that, like it was on release, it will be → 99% like beta, 1% not

Okay. I didn’t find the beta boring at all. The mobs were harder than in earlier zones, the new skills were a lot of fun, gliding was awesome.
Sorry you found it boring, no idea why.

don’t know why are you sorry )
as i’ve already told: i like something, that i can feel with my bones – just standing and defending against mobs at one place.. no dynamic.. i though there will be something like " OMFG, DEF FAST, MOVE TO OTHER POINTS, FAST FAST FAST!" like it was at SW, but i was just standing at one place, rarely escorting soldiers… booring :c
day events were really to slow\long, “snipers rifles” event was either bugged (that everyone moved bottom and killed mobs with their own hands), either booring :c – i can kill some mobs out of any events, i want events to be events, not just standing and facerolling my skills -_-
make some tactics on them, at least! they will be fun at start, while people trying to get what to do!
1/10 tbh
I will take my leave now.

i don’t get it :c
Ya i didn’t care for it either, spent 30 min there and left. The area is too confining, and i have no interest in flying. Who wanted to turn this into Aeon?

I’m inclined to disagree, the events were very good. Most of them were just bugged this beta weekend. I find them a more fresh and interesting experience than how Silverwastes did it (nothing against SW, it’s a nice map). Rather than having one central event, there are a variety of things you can go do. You could help the Itzel, grab Pact supplies, help capture outposts, etc. Also, using rifles is 100% optional.
This has been my fear all along that re open world events are too repetitive boring and slow. The night events were just plain awful – cumbersome and dragged out long timers.
There is no cohesive goal across the map that we are working for.
Right now there is very little in HoT that actually still justifies the price.
All the specialisations are honestly worse than what we currently have (except necro/Mesmer / and let’s be honest it would be really hard to make those classes worse than they already are).
The instanced repeatable rewarding content is the way forward- I can only play open world and the same event chains for so long (it’s not dynamic – poorly scripted and far too linear). Want to make then more interesting mix up the dynamic events and have xyz different in the same zone and a rng surprise which one occurs. Right how it slow and extremely limiting.
I heard that GW3 failed.. what a shame. Oh, right.. it hasn’t been released yet. What was I thinking?
Augh it’s so sickening to see you all treating this game like it’s the pinnacle of life, as if it doesn’t live up to your every expectation, existence will lose all meaning!
I’ll just be over here playing video games for entertainment… feel free to join whenever you like.
If you find silverwastes fun and found verdant brink boring, i declare you mentally insane. No offense.

I don’t see anyone saying that existence would lose all meaning if it doesn’t live up to their expectations or anything of that sort. So I don’t know where that’s coming from.
Would you go to a movie whose trailers bored you? Or do you just go to every movie ever released because movies are for entertainment?
Regardless of the fact that the primary function of Betas should be to bug test, it also serves as the “trailer” to a game. And to some, the “trailer” has been boring.
Now did they just put the boring parts of the game into the “trailer” as they don’t have the exciting parts finished yet? Or have they dropped the ball with the open world events? Only time will tell on that one.
Don’t get me wrong, but there were 3 years since start of GW2, and i was really looking forward for this addon, but if the whole addon is that boring, or only 1 zone is interesting, like silverwastes, then… i don’t know… i love the idea too much :c
OP, this is the part I found perplexing in your first post. Do you really think that the devs spend all their time working like crazy to come up with different maps to release and think, “Well most of it is boring but one of our zones is interesting, so that should be good enough.”? I don’t see any dev ever saying about their work, “Come on everyone, we know all these maps blow so let’s try to make what we did not boring.”
I can’t see anyone developing any game and thinking that any part of it sucks. They think it is ALL cool. I realize that “great” and “interesting” are in the eye of the beholder but I’m not sure if you do.
Ya i didn’t care for it either, spent 30 min there and left. The area is too confining, and i have no interest in flying. Who wanted to turn this into Aeon?
Gliding != flying.
Well Yeah like the other ppls said , but also keep in mind its Beta still .it can be changed and we got just a little zone ,where we was able to play and so on ,also bugged events and other stuff.Anyways … those events felt kinda boring, except that sniping event , but ,if there are like 20 snipers. It feels like bird hunting or so , because most of the time you standed there and waited until it was done or some cheap mechanics got just extended for example I WAS thinking , when i bring supplies to those pact ppls .It would be worth for something , but ATM i can only say.Yeah it does !… but not like you was thinking. You spent some time there building it up and then , when the timer gone …. POOF! destroyed .I was like right …. supporting the pact helping them and the only kitteng thing they can do , was blowing everything up !?
Well this made it nonsense for me to do those events. So i was just running around and fighting against mushrooms and other stuff , which are a real challenge sometimes , but yeah , if those events are like that.
it for me kinda nonsense , because since i entered silverwaste events and so on.I kinda enjoy my work or the work with other players to defend something and working for a huge event called “Vinewrath”,but those kind of events on every map would be …. repetive and weird ? Also effortless … but still. Those verdant brink events ,WHICH we was able to test , was fun , but somehow a waste ,because there was no goal … you did them and done … but still its BETA . So let’s hope for more change and stuff and looking forward for a good HOT expansion , even if i have mixxed feelings about it.
For example the specs … some are really awesome and some are just like or atleast felt like ….“Ohh no we have to do something let’s throw some kitten in it and done… Poof! Dragonhunter done ! … i mean for what ? i dont get the hang with that class seriously or well with that spec.”
I mean 10 skills and one limited traitline ,which grant you access to a new weapon.it’s kinda ugh …. i would like to add another traitline or so , where you can select your elite spec trait .So you would keep your 3 chosen traitline and now can pick up ONE elite spec traitline , would be atleast cool for me .Also i mean it was 50 € we paid. Please give us some great stuff and not only 2-3 awesome specs and some decent ideas about guild hall and wvw….
Let’s see what will come next.
Another opinion related strand. Not everyone feels the same, like I for one think Silverwastes’ content blows. But in BWE I enjoyed some of the events, others not so much. The game is in a good place, they just need to work smarter and faster.
Crystal Desert
If you find silverwastes fun and found verdant brink boring, i declare you mentally insane. No offense.

As Seera.5916 said – BWE is like a trailer for the film – whould you demostrate the boring part, expecting people to like it?
In their place i would demostrate cool part, leaving the coolest part to the late game
and if that was “cool” part…
And that also scares me a lot: if they created that zone, thinking “IT IS ONE OF THE GREATEST THINGS WE’VE EVER MADE”, then what will be other content..?

It wasn’t boring to everyone though. In fact, it wasn’t boring to most people I spoke with. I’ve seen movie trailers that bore me from very successful movies and I’ve been very excited by movie trailers that bore my wife.
The fact is not every movie trailer can appeal to every person. You’re trying to make this sound like it’s objectively boring, when in fact, it’s just your opinion that it’s boring.
On the other hand, things were specifically removed from this so as not to ruin the story for people. I wish some movie trailers would do that.

the thing is- in gw2 i’ve seen 3 kind of people:
1) the ones farming something (grinding)
2) the ones enjoing game (i really don’t get why or how. But there are people enjoing free-to-play mobile city simulators, right?)
3) the ones trying to return to game, having faith, that game potential will find it’s place in game
and that’s why the discussion have place to be: not everyone want hard events, not everyone want easy ones
but i still can’t get: how do people see demostrated events interesting? you still just kill mobs, but have progressbar! it don’t have any difference with classic quests, how can anyone enjoy this?!
i don’t get it! but that doesn’t mean i am right or wrong – its just my opinion

I’ll tell you a secret, that might surprise you. The answer to your question about people enjoying the game, is the same as the answer to your problem with events. There are two types of players…those who focus on mechanics and those who focus on immersion. They’re not completely mutually exclusive, but they’re very different beasts. You sound like you’re more interested in mechanics, so those fights are all the same to you.
I’m more interested in immersion and those fights are very different to me. Fighting centaurs in a human area is completely different than fighting off the modrem and it’s not just because of mechanics. My character is doing something.
If you think of action movies, a hero moves from fight to fight, working his way up to the big bad guy. It’s always the same. This fight, that fight, this car chase that car chase. The specifics of each might be different, but it’s always sort of the same. People who like action movies don’t watch them for just the fighting. They watch them for the motivation for the fighting. They watch them to see this really bad guy get his kitten kicked. How is the hero going to overcome this obstacle. It’s the same in just about every action movie, but people still seem to go see action movies.
When I play in the open world and I do events, my character is doing those events. It’s not really RPing, because I’m not interacting with other humans. I’m immersing myself in the world and situation. It doesn’t matter that the fort was only freed a bit ago, when the centaurs attack, it’s might duty to help fight them off. I can enjoy that, and so can a lot of other people.
If you only focus on mechanics, you’re missing a rather large aspect of the game.
