just going to put this out there for people to freely speak there opinion on what class they think is the best and what class they might think is there worst in the game right now
Oh here we go.
Personally, I think Necromancer. Why blind/block/evade the enemy, when I can just absorb damage through my face, without having to cut my DPS momentarily to defend myself, when I can just continue whaling.

Necro as well here… Because Gravedigger… that should be enough right there.

Guardian and Necro. Ranger is good though too.
For me it is the Guardian. But that can only cover certain aspects. These aspects are mobility, durability, the possibility to do stuff alone or with NPCs and/or other people.
The Guardian offers a broad variety of buffs: speed, protection, regeneration, aegis, retaliation, might, fury and quickness (these are like all boons in the game). Not to forget about insane healing effects from healing skills and staff skill 4 (depending on specialization) and in addition to that blinding enemies, controlling zones and offer reflection. That allows you to react to nearly every situation and bring a gun to a knife fight. Doing stuff alone gets very easy this way.
I played my Guardian with Soldier equipment, Forgemaster runes from Embrace of Sorrow and a shout oriented specialization build. That way i was tanky (with roundabout 20.000 HP on level 80) and good disposal on protection, aegis, burning and retaliation. That did the killing job for me. Even champions were in solo reach but would still take some time.
Having only NPCs with me is not a bad thing, since i can buff them too as i can do with other players around.
So there is almost no situation a guardian could be considered useless. Before HoT, the Guardian lacked in far distance combat but this is now a thing of the past, since he got to use a longbow when choosing the Dragonhunter specialization. Fitting into everything makes the Guardian the #1 PvE class in my opinion. But this is just an opinion after all. If one would have to be honest, every class has their field in which they are the best.

just wanted to bump this and see if i could get anymore people to talk
Best and worse is broad category. It all depends on your playstyle, gear, and build.
That said, the two easiest classes to play are Ranger, and Guardian.
at least in open world PvE, I’d go for thief. I mean when I am not in the mood to deal with the mobs (which most of the time I’m not in the mood :p ) I can run past them more easily that I do with other classes (cause of stealth and with the daredevil I can get perma-swiftness now)

Herald. It’s basically the only class that can fight the axemaster in dragon’s stand melee, has access to permanent swiftness and other nice boons and enough stundbreaks and evades to get you out of any tricky situation. All that while dealing a nice amount of damage.
If you’re in an easyer event chain and just want to make sure you hit all those trash mobs: pick Jalis and his rotating hammers. It’s like guardian lootstick*, but fully automatic.
*Staff on guardian is also called lootstick because it’s really easy to hit all the mobs in front of you. Guardians usually get way more loot in events with a lot of trash mobs than other classes.

There really isn’t a best and worst in PvE, they all have pro’s and con’s it just comes down to how well you play them,
The other problem is, some people will tell you xyz is crap and abc are musts, because of speedclears, its evident from many posts on these forums, Anet apparently are trying to make all classes viable in the new raids to get away from the LF xyz class, full zerk 20k AP’s or go home.
Why don’t we wait until raid come out ( soon ) and then talk about this later ?
Elite specs are messing up with many classes right now until we experienced what/how’s raid going to be, there’s no certain answer.
Not sure about the “best”. PvE in open world (not talking about fractals or dungeons) is just easy enough so every class can handle it. I have completed map with 8 all previous classes, and I will do it with Revenant too.
If the “best” means easiest to play without much effort, probably Ranger since the pet can usually tank long enough so you are not in any real danger.
Guardian is also very easy to play in the sense that tanky Guardian really does not die in PvE.
There could be also best classes not exactly “easy” but “fun”. Thief is fun class but still lacks survivability for my liking, specially against conditions. Mesmer is fun but only starts to properly shine in PvP/WvW (I am sure Chrono will be nerfed soon).
I find Warrior and Ele a bit boring. They have lots of options, lots of skills and traits but none has had serious wow-factor for me. Playable, strong, sure. But not that much fun. Also, both Berserker and Tempest are lacking anything new and special.
I played a lot Engi before the nerf hammer hit them. Pistol engi was good, sadly unplayable now. Turret engi was great but got nerfed. Did not like grenades that much, yet they were nerfed too. I guess Scrapper is ok, its just not much better then all the other melee hitting classes. Playing Scrapper is no different then playing hammer Guardian, or Warrior, or Revenant.
I have spent most on my Necro. Very nice class, I like a lot. Not the best in PvP/WvW but very capable in PvE. Reaper is still very strong and will be probably nerfed soon.
I have not fully maxed Herald, just doing lower level maps with Revenant and getting Hero Points from WvW chests. I am still not fan of the energy system, its too complicated and I just tend to ignore it completely. Meaning it could be simply removed and game would become better. Condi removal looks to be weak point for Revenant, certain skills/traits become required if you dont want to die to constant bleeds/burns.

Mesmer… lol no.
Guardian is the best for central Tyria open world content. Staff auto-attack gives me more loot than FT engie or whatever spec ele.
For HoT maps, I really enjoy playing scrapper. It’s so tanky and can deal a good amount of dmg with the correct setup.
Staff elementalist. There’s always something off cooldown, good healing, and lots of combo fields.
I find thief to be the best class for open world PvE, especially daredevil with unhindered combatant.
Permanent swiftness, so many dashes via unhindered combatant+endurance recovery, and Infiltrator’s Arrow spam make it so quick to get around.
