just tell us the weapon list already
By what i understood from intrviews and such, a lot of details about revenant (like the weapons, legendaries it can channel, all traits &skills) are not event finalised yet. We know the stuff that’s already final and we can count on them to be in the expansion, but the class is still not actually finished.
You answered your own question… they aren’t going to tell us yet because people would buy out all the weapons and skins that revenant uses and jack up the price to make money on the expansion.
They will release the list slowly over time to keep the economic impact small, and keep the hype train going.

You probably didn’t totally waste money on spears, as I’m rather confident that will be their underwater weapon.
… and keep the hype train going.
This is the one reason. Their marketing department has decided it’s best to drip-drip the information out to keep the “hype” train going but it’s run out of fuel as far as I am concerned. I’m not all down for this type of marketing. It’s extremely annoying. I knew the second they announced the expansion if I was going to purchasing two copies or not so the fact they are intentionally delaying information to string along the fans is extremely irritating.
Sword, Hammer, Axe offhand, Mace mainhand, Staff.
That’s 5 weapons to choose from, how many more do you want?
Go nuts.

Well, they’ve confirmed Hammer, axe off hand, and mace mainhand. They’ve confirmed sword and staff? I mean, I’ve already got them waiting and can be used on other toons if it turns out they cannot use sword or staff, but I’d like to see the official line that they will be usable by the Revenant.
It’s unconfirmed, but I’m fairly positive we’ll be able to use swords and stave’s as a Revenant, given that Rytlock uses them in the trailer, but this could just be an “NPC perk” like Marjories ability to use greatswords currently.

GW2 is not a finished product jet and a lot of thing will change and get polished. So at this point they are still experimenting whit different weapons and skills, for all we know they could try out all the weapons and then use only a few. They used to be a lot more than 8 professions in gw2 before the release.

No there wasn’t.

I didn’t really read that as classes, but more “potential classes we wanted for the archetypes” but i stand corrected.

Pretend you’re working on something like this. You have an eager customer base, but it will be several months until you can release it.
Do you:
A) Tell your players everything you can about your plans and then go silent until release?
B) Keep all information to yourself so they can stew in silence and be surprised at release?
C) Look at all the information and create a schedule over the time left until your projected release date that will provide a steady stream of info to keep the anticipation going and the product in your player’s attention?
Even if everything was set in stone, and there was no chance that information you give would change, option C makes the most sense.

Even more interesting for me is the weapon that the specialisation for the revenant will get.
Also, I guess we would need at least one more offhand weapon for the rev, every other class has got more than one offhand choice. Torch? Focus? Shield? Dagger, since there is no heavy armor class with daggers (though theres also no caster class with bows so that argument doesnt really count)

I would like off hand sword or off hand shield honestly. A more offensive version of guardian shield would rock.

And dagger offhand wielded by mighty Pop

^This. I hate it when devs do this, it actually harms my hype rather than foster it.

I doubt spear. The Revenant doesn’t have weapon swapping. The other 2 classes that don’t weapon swap have a ranged underwater weapon. So imo either harpoon gun or trident. The engie has a harpoon gun and the ele has trident. The two other heavy classes trident (guardian) and harpoon gun (warrior). I’m going to guess trident for the Revenant as the harpoon gun seems to be for professions that are less magical in nature.
ANet may give it to you.

Honestly, it could be any of the three, but I’m guessing they will still get spear and possibly use it as a ranged weapon as well. Or it will have strong gapclosing ability.
I guess Spear because they are definitely a martial profession (trident is doubtful) and because it’s the only underwater weapon that isn’t the sole choice on a class. It seems likely that due to the physical, impactful feel of the weapons we’ve seen, that Spear is the most likely to continue that theme.
