Q:
mastery pts for past achievements?
Hopefully it doesn’t apply.
All mastery points in central tyria will be awarded retro-actively so yes, you will receive them if you’ve already done the task for it.
I very much doubt xp will transfer over, and i personally don’t want it to.
I foresee a LOT of existing 80s running around with plenty of mastery points then! Map completions, just entering a new city, things that sound like world bosses, and so on.
I am curious, why not have xp transfer over? Surely they must have somewhere in their database how many times someone has rolled the xp bar over.
We will get mastery point from past achievment, that something that they actually said (I’m to lazy to find the source sorry). Mastery point and hero point are 2 different things.
Since mastery are account wide (seem that way from BWE) you won’t have to grind masteries for every character and the same goes for mastery point.
None of the xp will be refound simply because you have to activate a mastery track to start filling it with xp. All the xp you gain with no mastery track activate is for naught.

sigh, because people want the long term goals, as much of a treadmill as they can get, it won’t feel like progression if they don’t have to start from scratch when HoT drops, heaven forbid the exp we’ve earned in the interim actually count towards anything!
The horror, oh the humanity
Seriously we,like, totally, shouldn’t earn mastery exp for the first, like, year, so that, like, everything, like feels all proper long termy and, like, stuff.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

We get that, I guess what we mean is why don’t level ups now give us a spirit shard and a potion of mastery exp that gives, I dunno, like 5% towards a (even just central tyria) mastery track?
It was always cool seeing exp from basically everything, now its just a reminder nothing I do counts or matters in the long term until after HoT drops.
Would like to feel like what I’m doing now isn’t a total waste.

Well, If I was working at Anet’s, maybe i’d have an answer at your question. All I could say from my player (or customer) point of view would be that it seem that they made things ready for HoT a bit to soon and don’t plan to give anything more than what we ve got right know to the core game.

Some Mastery points will come from content that existing players may have already completed, and these Mastery points will be automatically awarded to you with the release of Heart of Thorns, allowing you to get started on your Mastery journey right away.
