I have tomes to raise a character to 80, is it known if you will have to finish your personal story to get into HoT?

maybe a dumb question.

You don’t have to finish it.

While HoT plays (storywise) in a time after you finished your personal story + living world season 1+2, none of those are a requirement to play HoT or the story in HoT. So if you are fine with a non-chronological story for your character you can start right away.

It has been said a while ago so I don’t remember when exactly (and tbh I’m too lazy to search for the source either^^).
But the answer is NO, you won’t have to finish your personnal story. It’ll work as LS, meaning you’re supposed to have finish previous stories but it’s not needed.

FYI: it is personnal story, then living story 1, then living story 2, then HoT story so it might be a good idea to finish your personnal history anyway.
Also, even if it is what they have said, they might change it since they was no official blogpost about it (if I’m not mistaken), it was just mentionned in something else (live probably).
Maybe, it’ll be needed for the “community masteries” (don’t remember the real name) it’ll make sense in some way.

PS: I started to do the personnal stories of my chars recently (only 3 done for 9 chars) and Wow! I mean, you get a lot, A LOT, of gift from doing it now (mostly crafting loots). I’m so kittened that this is not compensate in any way for chars that finished it at the release.

maybe a dumb question.

I don’t think that you would be able to do the HoT story without the Personal Story completed, because of how the Personal Story/Living World UI works, but you should be able to go to the zones without doing the personal story just like you could go to Orr without getting to that point in the base game (or, for that matter, going to the SilverWastes).

That being said, I actually enjoy the personal story for the most part (except the Zhaitan fight, which is still a buggy mess), and it flows better when you do the whole thing at once, in my humble opinion.

Tome your guy to 80 and have fun.

well hopefully it’ll work out that way, this would be my 7th lvl 80. TBH I have done the personal story enough so I am fine with 1 character not going through the whole danged thing.

You didn’t need to complete the personal story to do either Season 1 or Season 2 of the living story.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘because of how the Personal Story/Living World UI works’. You can only have 1 story chapter of any kind active at one time, but you can switch between them freely any time you’re not in an instance. (And possibly when you’re in one, I’ve never tried.)

Huh, I did not know that. I’ve never actually tried to do the living world on a character that hadn’t finished the Personal Story. I do know that the indicator on the screen defaults to your next-unlocked story step.
