I’m not saving any normal t6 mats we currently have access to now though cause the new weapons will probably require ingredients from the new areas – so rich players can’t just immediately buy them. To invest in lots of t6 mats is risky, it’s a gamble really – could go either way.

I can guarantee you that they will not do away with the need for Gift of Might and Gift of Magic, thus hoarding tier 6 mats is not unwise whatsoever. People are already forking out for the expansion, they won’t gib people further by introducing another bunch of T6 materials for the base required gifts.
New mats for individual specialized gifts depending on the legendary, yes (edit: as in yes possibly). But those of Might and Magic, no.

I doubt there will be many new mats, if any at all. Seeing as there have been a few in the game for over a year now that aren’t actually there yet (Xunlai Electrum ingot and Crystalline (?) ingot), I suppose any other future stuff we would have seen already.
Anyway, hoarding T6 mats is not the worst idea one could have. At the very least, the old legendaries will still ask for them in bulk, and since those precursors will be obtainable from a collection/scavenger hunt/something other than RNG with HoT, I suspect people will still make them. And if the new ones also need the current T6 stuff, prices will probably spike at least a little, depending on how easy it will be to obtain the mats in the new maps.
I would assume new Gifts of X will be needed, obtainable through the new content, or simply added in for the old dungeons (though I’d be a little disappointed if that were the case).

Agreed. The point of the new Legendaries should revolve around a new way of acquiring them, so I doubt any of the T6 ingredients used for the current ones will move over. I can see Karma being used in some fashion, since you earn that through activities and the game frankly doesn’t have enough items to use this for.
