is it worth the expansion? What under 80 does hot give us access to? Having a tough time basing my decision on just the revenant

You can get a 10% experience boost with HoT from a guild

There’s not really anything you’ll gain access to aside from the Revenant. You’re far better off waiting until you’ve got a level 80 character and have finished the normal storyline

Buying HoT is required for Living World Season 3 though, whenever that comes out.

No 80’s? Well, let’s fix that first. Start by using the wiki and look at how experience and especially boosting it works. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Experience make certain you use some laurels if you have to for the XP booster. The kill streak portion of it adds 100% alone!

You want to max out on Boosters/Foods/Utilities/Guild buffs and hit up either EotM (Edge of the Mist) or go on a Kill Streak. A Kill Streak is running around a zone killing yellow creatures and whatever red’s you come by. If you are above level 30, the area east “The Ogre Road” way point [&BE8BAAA=] in Fields of Ruin is pretty good XP farming. If you are above level 60, the area east of “Rustbowl” way point [&BB4CAAA=] in Fireheart Rise is good as well. Kill the Hyena’s as well in Rustbowl. You can kill everything you can find in one spot and alternate back and forth between the two areas. You want the creatures to age for about 15 minutes or so to get more XP from them. So alternating is better way to go.

Another source of experience is doing the personal story and the story portions of dungeons. I first mentioned the Kill streak method because you can do that solo. While waiting to build a party for dungeon stories, I’d go on a Kill Streak run.

For buying the expansion, none of the experience you earn will go toward Masteries until you reach level 80. So you want to get your character/s expedited to level 80.

I would disagree with using laurels for boosters. You get enough of that crap from daily login reward assuming you aren’t f2p. I’d save those up so you can get a few ascended pieces as soon as you ding. Other than that…Play. Play quests, pvp, dungeons, crafting and stop afking in cities replacing your gear every 2 levels, shoot for more like 5-10 levels. =P.

Let’s make a plan for getting your character to level 80! What is your highest level character? Is that the character you like the most? What is the character you like the most so far and what level is it at right now?

Yeah I wouldn’t waste laurels on boosters either. You’re better off saving laurels because they really are a lmited currency. But I agree at a lower level there’s not much reason to buy HoT, unless you KNOW you’re going to want to buy it.
