My question is roughly this, will there only be endgame maps, or also new maps for my other characters to train. Don’t get me wrong, the mainland is fun, but running through the same zones on 8 chars gets to you in a while. Would be fun to get into the new areas and experience the joy of levelling there as well.

They will most likely be level 80 maps, as the expansion seems to be quite heavily about end-game content.

I think we won’t get new starter and low level zones unless we get a new race.
At this moment, I’m glad they’re focusing on end-game content, though I’d like to play a new race.. I think everything they’re introducing in this x-pac is much more important “to me at least”

Most likely 80..because as Lazaar said ANet concentrated on end-game content AND take it chronologically. By the time u kill Zhaitan u are level 80. The jungle dragon is AFTER Zhaitan so u are atleast 80 by then.

Level 0-80 – Zhaitan. Consider it a tutorial. Trust me u will prefer to have a ton of lvl80 maps because when u get to level 80 u don’t get bored. Leveling from 0 to 80 is fun because u have a ton of maps already.

It’s going to be odd for the Revenants, which is new expansion content, so to be leveling outside their expansion. That’s not something that’s normally done in games.

It also sounds very off putting. People buy the new expansion to play there on their new character, not to appear in the old content, having to get to level 80 before they can access it. And yes I know some can pop level scrolls and get to 80 in seconds, that’s not the point. Others are going to have to go through the whole leveling process by playing. If they have to wait till however long that takes them then they are not going to be happy.

A few possibilities.

One, there is one leveling map your char appears in. If it has 3 biomes, the bottom can be low level, the middle, middle level and the top, higher level. When you get to 80, you can leave. If they give extra exp, it can be quick. It will still be a problem as the Revenants will be leveling while others are playing the game and doing the story line, which will mean that many will put off leveling the Revenant till later, after they have played a while.

Second, you take a level 80 to there and and he speaks to Rytlock and becomes a Revenant. (Less likely as it may require a guard/warrior because of armor issues and because it means losing your previous profession).

3rd possibility: you get a new char. You chose the Revenant profession and you are level 80 at start. (Obvious learn to play problems here).

Of the 3, my guess is on a dedicated tutorial map with a fast push to level 80 mechanics.

Don’t forget that Revenants will appear in the old starting zones like everyone else, they won’t appear in the expansion area. Norn Revenants will begin with the Norn Tutorial as normal and then be in Wayfarer Foothills. Human Revenants will start in Queensdale etc, I don’t see any reason for them to create tutorial maps specific for Revenants.

Also, they said they are adding Mastery points all over the game, not just the expansion areas, which means there is loads to do in the old zones too.

Yeah, a tutorial area solely for Revenants is extremely unlikely, because of how they said they are focusing on creating maps with replayability. Also when they said they will not be raising the leveling cap, one of the reasons was because of new leveling zones just being content that is ignored after.

@Astral no it wouldn’t. Just an example that could “excuse” that. Rytlock was the first Revenant. After he came back the power became accessible to other heroes through him & his teaches or just the fact that he came back unleashed this new potential power…but everyone who got it had to master it. It’s like u getting a new “super power” over night…u have no clue how to use it. There u go..lvl1-80.

There will be lore i am sure about it.

(Speculation) One consideration. There will already be a lot of people with enough scroll/tomes to instant level 80 so there’s going to be plenty of “there you go, level 80” from that. Since that’s already in game, ANet might make it official.

If they make people level through doing old content, I hope they have some sort of fast leveling mechanic because for many, those zones are “been there, done that” and they don’t want to redo old maps One. More. Time. when there are new maps to explore.

The thing is, if they don’t have a starter zone to level and learn, a very large number of people (based on how many have level 20 scrolls, tomes and writs that the game is handing out like candy) will simply pull out the “instant level 80” card and bypass the whole learning process.

If they have a new starter zone, some will still instant 80 but many will take the time to level there and learn the mechanics of the new biomes and even some of the instant 80s will stay there to check out the new map and learn their new profession that way.

The heart of the Maguuma-jungle is the lair of an elder dragon. Orr wasn’t low-level either. Not to mention: Dry Top and Silverwastes are also LVL 80 and they are practically the borders to Maguumas heart.

I think it’s more than just unlikely that they will bring out new starter zones. They’ll add new stuff for the mastery-system throughout the world, so I think we will see some changes in the current starter-zones

No citation required. Why would any newly created Revenant start anywhere other than their respective starter zone. For instance if you make a human you’re going to start with the instance ‘Defense of Shaemoor’ and proceed into the Queensdale map.

It would only make sense for new starter zone to be implemented if there was a new race being added (thankfully there is none). Why would there be a new starter/tutorial zone just for a new class?

Stop requesting citations, all it requires is a bit of logic and basic deduction skills.

Um… what???

Silvermember, I think if you actually read his post, he says, “If they have a new starter zone, some will still instant 80.” He said that a new zone would not stop some from instant 80ing. So why make it sound like he did?

I also don’t see anywhere where he indicated that would or would not care if people instant leveled to 80. Yet you asked him why they would. Do you think he has some kind of inside information?

And how do you know if a map would be “worthless” or not.

A new leveling zone, especially if it has three levels like the rest of the new Maguuma maps, may be zone that could help level a new character quite high. We don’t know. So there is no reason to punch holes or contradict anything he was saying.

All he was indicating with what you quoted was that a new starter area MAY encourage new players or old players with new revenants to stay there and learn the new profession. Heck there were people in GW1, that stayed in pre-searing just because they liked it there. So “worthless” is in the eye of the beholder.

In my experience that’s exactly what happens in MMOs. If they add a new race they add new starting zones, but new professions don’t generally speaking get a new zone; they start wherever the rest of the level 1’s do.

The point is a new zone is unnecessary to get people to learn the class. One way or another they are going to learn the class by level 80. A starting zone only helps you learn the basis, you rarely get enough time and have access to all your tools to be proficient in the class. Also the most of the people who ding to 80 probably already have the experience to learn the class without having to waste hundreds of thousands being a starting zone.

/shrug. I know if my char starts off in an old starter zone I’m not going to level it the old way there. I’ve already leveled 9 chars to 80 doing the old maps and I don’t have an interest in doing that again. I’ll instant 80 and head to the new maps, like I expect most others will be doing.

I kind of doubt that having a flood of people on a new profession already maxed to 80 in new maps where ANet says the content is going to be harder is a good thing but, so it is. If they added a new tutorial map for this new profession where you start at the bottom biome and had to leave by reaching a portal at the top biome then that would give people time to learn the map mechanics as well as the basics of their profession before they hit the new maps with the harder content they are speaking of.

I’m expecting lots of dead Revenants littering the new maps calling for a rez. ^^

(The tutorial map could have a horizontal footprint about the size of a regular map and a vertical footprint of 3 levels where the bottom level is for 1-26, middle for 27-52, and top for 53-80. It could also be “in the mists” and not part of the regular maps for everyone else)

Sorry, but there are so many zones, despite my 14 or 15 characters there are still zones that only a handful of them have ever even stepped foot in. I have never had a problem providing a unique leveling experience per character. Also this game is seriously lacking in level 80 zones. Good for Maguuma if they’re all 80s. I did re-read as you suggested and I am still correct. He never indicated that a new starter zone would prevent people from instant leveling to 80. He just said that with a new starter area, some people might take the time to level the slow way.

Your point that a new class could level anywhere is correct. Your point about him saying that a new starting area would prevent inta-leveling to 80 was not. Your point about a new starting area being worthless was also not right. Worthless is subjective. Worthless to you maybe. Not to everyone.

My point is that a new starting area COULD be beneficial to some. Some would enjoy it just as a way to start leveling a new toon. Others may just enjoy it as a new map. Whatever the case may be, calling something “worthless” before it even happens is presumptuous and biased.

None of these will happen. You will level up from the very start until the end. MMOs add new starter-zones with races, not classes.

Also, Anet said that the new maps will have huge reply-ability, if you think a level 50 map that lvl 80s can 1 shot everything at, is replyable, I would indeed disagree with you.

Are you arguing that there will be no scaling in a new tutorial map and that Queensdale, Brisbane, Mount Maelstrom, all the below level 80 maps, have no replay value for level 80s? This hasn’t been my experience of the game.

Granted a tutorial map won’t have huge replayability, but it will have playability for each person that makes a Revenant as long as the profession is available in game, for people who are accompanying friends leveling and for people who don’t have a Revenant yet but who want to experience the new map or who have a Revenant but still want to open this map up on an older char.

I would fully expect that you would simply make a new character and re-do the entire thing over again. Personally, I wouldn’t mind that – except I dislike the NPE. It just feels like someone put a big ol cup of peanut butter milkshake in front of me, and if I take more than a sip they smack me in the face and shout “no! Too fast!” Really though, no class has a class-specific tutorial, so I kind of assume they won’t be doing such with this one either.

That being said, I would absolutely love the option to transform one character from their class into it (as I don’t need 2 guardians on my account), but the sheer annoyance of work they would have to go through to make something like a profession-swap happen has me believing they wouldn’t waste their effort on that when they know people will care more about the map and “fun new things” to do. That being said, if they did have this option, it’s not like it would affect the personal story or whatever, so it’s probably more likely to have something like this happen then, say, a race change.
