possible Gliding areas
It’s not going to happen. It would require more time and energy than it’s worth. It’ll mean that some vistas will lose integrity. Some jumping puzzles will lose integrity. It would mean a dev team not only having to go through each map, but a dev team having to constantly go back and fix each map. The maps weren’t designed for flight. All the new maps will be.

Don’t know why but that sounds stupid to make an awesome mechanic just for one area, expansion s are supposed to release features not just for new content but for the original content as well.
Maybe they will go back over the old maps and make them gliding capable but it won’t be until after the expansion. They have already said they are stretched to the limit right now with what they need to do.
ANet may give it to you.

That last has precedent against it. Lotro put mounted combat in expac and beyond only. Tsw has end game aegis weapons system in the last zone and aegis shield only in tbe last 2 sections of the zone.
There are other examples in games as well.
Some games implement expansion features to core and some dont. If they do not, it is with good reason ( as in this case) even if player logic differs.
Thats always funny people writing things A-Net told them to do, instead of thinking. Gliding would be on most maps without any big problems possible if everyone understands how gliding is working.
What happen if you jump down from a hill ?? Right your moving downwards. If you jump down and opening your glider, it will glide down until it hits some where the ground. This map having no wind so your glider is only gliding down and not up !!
As long as they program no streams or wind inside maps that really to be done and as told with an invisible wall. GW2 has no open world where you could glide inside another area.
As long as they promise HoT will the new GW2 with gliding then we should get it, or they stop telling so and release HoT as expansion only !! Ok at GW2 release they also told from swiming yes and we see what we not got over 3 years now.
Gliding would so be no problem and if the developers would look at their work instead of always changing / damaging things they don’t need to do they got more times to work on 3 years existing problems. Nobody told always changing map loading servers or always reworking skills and traitsystems. Programming guest servers and those got kicked of by not working megaservers. If those things did not wasted in time, they got more people to look at other things.
And A-Net should not look what others doing, they want to be the best developers ?? So they should do unique things nobody others has and not limit things to one areas or whatever.
Hey and nobody cares if jumping puzzles ported by mesmern or if I reach it with my glider or leave my characters there for only opening boxes everyday. That’s my choice how I solve things.
more like there being on the lazy side… i dont really care for pve but with the glider on this new map …. i would love to see them in wvw….. i men on of the side is built for it has one of the longest drops and lot verticality

In coming zerg!
From where?
Above!
They better add some anti-air artiliary, because no ones going to come in through the front gate anymore.
Which does slightly overlook the have-expansion and the have-not-expansions thing.

You do know that most maps are already broken by being able to jump forther than you would with normal speed? If you take jump-skills into account (as well as some infamous items) every current map is already broken, though it needs a keen eye to spot those places. I have yet to find a single map where it isn’t ridiculously easy to leave the normal map and start exploring off-map (Though there are some where I didn’t find out yet how to enter the water below the map). If you were able to glide, you could reach places that you otherwise couldn’t (by jumping from a high vista onto a lower wall to the side) breaking the maps even more.
When you look at the mountains surrounding most areas: about 50% of those don’t have a hitbox. You can simply pass through them as if they weren’t there (that is if you can reach them).
I’d be happy enough if we could glide a bit in Cities and a few spots in Dry Top and the Silverwastes.
Even cities pose their difficulites with gliding. Lions Arch has that new, hard jumping puzzle that people on a previous thread have speculated can be reached from different parts of LA, such as the Lighthouse. If anet decides they don’t want that they will need to put in barriers. Rata Sum, it might be fun to glide off the side of the building but leaping out already sends you to jail and it’s unknown what having large numbers of people getting into the areas below where they don’t want people might do. It also might be possible to glide outside the map from the top, so more barriers will be needed.
ANet may give it to you.
Yeah, but Gliding can be limited to certain areas.
Try to move outside those areas, you get ‘strong winds’ that push you away, like the ‘strong currents’ in the water that prevent you from going far in open sea.
So in Divinity’s Reach they could make it so you can glide off the Hawk in the Pavillion, but nowhere else. In Hoelbrack you could glide around the central prism, but can’t go near the mountains.
And so on.

Having limited gliding from just one spot or another in an old map won’t satisfy people. Once that is put in there would be endless threads calling for gliding everywhere in the map. Which brings it back to the original problem of needing to go over all the maps to look for exploits and break out spots and put in barriers.
ANet may give it to you.

That actually sounds pretty awesome, Im not going to lie.
Games like WoW went back and made it possible to fly in older zones that were previously not possible. I don’t see why they couldn’t do the same here.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t add flying sometime, but not until after the expansion as they’ve already said they have they are busy with what they have still to do. After the expansion though is a possibility.

Maybe they want to wait and make sure it is well received before putting a bunch of time into integrating it into old zones. I think that would be the smart thing to do.
