First character does a chapter …. gets a hero point.

Second character does the chapter …. does not get a mastery point.

Is this because there are other ways (I assume) to get mastery points in the HOT zones? Which might be what is messing up central tyria with mastery points.

Mastery points are account bound and can only be earned once. Hero Points are character bound and must be earned by each character.

Yes, I realized the difference between this story and the PS as soon as I posted. The PS has different paths (races and orders) but this does not do the same.

It is worth noting that you can earn additional masteries on repeat playthroughs by doing the sub-objectives. For example, the “Torn from the Sky” mission, you get one mastery for clearing it the first time, another for repeating it and picking one of the two paths, another for completing the other path, and then several other ones for doing side objectives. You can’t get them all in less than three total playthroughs, and it may take more.
