so anyone know if theres going to be a beta event any time soon?

seems a bit unfair on the fans to drop the HoT prepurchase and include all Beta testing then go silent about any upcoming test’s for a few weeks…..sigh… back to daily’s and standing around the new LA I suppose.

Probably end of July or early August.

It doesn’t seem unfair just because they don’t give us instantaneous answers to all of our questions.

You can’t go silent about something unless you were loud about it before. They haven’t been chatting up beta events all the time and there h ave been plenty of weeks in between each beta when we didn’t have info on when the next one was coming. Just put it at the back of your mind and either keep playing GW2 or keep playing something else while you wait for info.

The original beta event occurred ~2 weeks after pre-purchasing was announced. They would always announce it at the start of the week, with the beta always occurring on the weekend.

If they are on a similar schedule, they would announce the first beta today. However, this coming weekend isn’t going to work for them, so it likely won’t be this week.

We probably won’t hear about one for at least another three weeks.

Wonder if there going to have a end of beta event though.

I have a few thoughts on the extra “beta char slot”….. will the beta toon be only for beta events ? will the name affect future names on account? Will they have own equipment for testing (use our own?)

Based on the previous betas

The beta char slot will be beta chars only. I have a new char in my new slot and the beta slot is now “deactivated.” People who have made a char using the beta slot have reported the next blank slot becomes the beta slot.

Names used on an account are held for that account for 24 hours after the char is deleted. I would assume the beta slot is no different. As long as a char is on the beta slot and for 24 hours after deletion, the name belongs to that account.

The 2 betas so far have come with a full set of armor and weapons (so far its been celestial). That gear cannot be sent to the main account and that char never has access to your bank or email. The gear is gone when anet deletes that char.

So far the beta alts have been only for beta events, and cannot be used to advance your live account. They have also come with a set of gear, albeit not to the taste of many players (Celestial stats). The money spent/gained by them is for a “snapshot copy” of your account, and does not affect your live bank, per a dev.

The name is an interesting question. I’ve gone ahead and made a name placeholder alt for my revenant in case I want to keep the name I used in the first stress beta, which I will if I go with male human. It would be nice if the beta name could be reserved. However, keep in mind that any name you take in the game is yours until 24 hours after you delete the alt. Given that the beta alt will most likely be deleted well before launch day, I don’t think the mechanisms in place will allow saving the name. Hence the value of using a slot to make an alt with the name you want (which will mean not using that name in beta).

If you don’t have a spare slot for that, then keep very quiet about the name you want and don’t use it anywhere on the internet. At launch, instantly create a character by doing “Skip to End” without regard to race, gender, profession, or lore choices. Put in the name, create. Bam. You can then delete the character when you want, and have a 24 hour window to make it just right before using the name.
