So we know so far reveant will be getting a tether, and dragonhunter will have tethers. Even though this is kinda cool isn’t this going to make an insane amount of lag? Other classes I’m sure will also have a tether to most likely. World bosses and farming events with a million tethers out everywhere isn’t this going to look really weird and slow the game down a lot?

Guardians already kind of have a tether in Binding Blade. Granted it’s only a tiny comparison, but it’s not completely unrelated. And it doesn’t work on the structure-like world bosses (the ones you can’t critically hit, like The Shatterer and Tequatl) so I’d imagine these new tethers won’t work either. And I doubt it would be any different to a hundred skill animations of any kind going off at once. It’s only a line graphic from the player to the target. Even in the livestream it clipped through the ground, so it’s not so flashy and GPU consuming as other more complex animations.

what I don’t like is that they look exactly the same.
Hope it is placeholder art, since it would be impossible to know at a glance which class is using tether between revenant and dragon hunter.

yes, i know i could look at the condition being applied on target to identify it, but i believe they should be unique enough to identify them just by looking at them.

what is tether?

Tether effects are effects that attach a person to a specific place or person. That are broken when a person escapes the range.

Tethers come in different types.

Binding blade is a damage tether for example.

The new spear of justice seems to be another type of damage tether.

Other examples of tethers include effects that decrease movement speed the further you get away from the tethers source until it breaks. (like your trying to run away from a rope thats tied to a post. Theres a bit where the rope holds you almost still till you strain it to the point of it breaking.)

Tainted shackles is another tether

Then you have trigger tethers. (Tethers that don’t do anything UNTIL there broken. Like a tether that pulled you back to the target hte first time you got out of range. Or a tether that when broken damages you and all the people around you)

Tethers pretty much all have the same counterplay. Breaking the link through one method or another (except for hte last type. Where the idea is to NOT break the link or do so in a way that doesn’t harm you)

Tethers are very good against high evasion classes and stealth classes. Though those same classes also have access to skills that will let htem break it easily. (its more a HEY burn something to break this or ill use it to take you out. not a (lol hard counter) situation).
