will we be able to use gliding and other abilities outside of the jungle’s environment? if not, then i really wouldnt feel like i accomplished anything, if my achievements would be so restricted to a certain area.

You won’t be able to use it in the rest of Tyria. As far as I know, nothing has been said about things in future areas. Totally possible that you can glide there, too.
The vanilla Tyria maps can’t support gliding since they weren’t designed with gliding in mind, I guess. You could possibly cheat around to get to some vistas/JPs/etc with them, so gliders are logically not supported there. For future expansions/maps, Anet could design them while having in mind that gliding is an option there.

The old maps would break. ANet has said that future maps can be designed with gliding in mind.

Masteries are made to be region-specific, but there will be masteries other than gliding, mushroom jumping, and frog-talking, including some in old Tyria. They have yet to give further details, stay tuned.

Very much this. At the moment if you could glide you would be breaking the maps and flying over large vast empty spaces.

The pvp community reminds me of what Obi-kittenenobi describes Mos Eisley as from star wars.

Hang-gliding in areas free of the dense vegetation that makes a jungle a jungle would seem less hazardous than hang-gliding through a jungle and would not require redefinition of the terms ‘hang-gliding’ or ‘jungle’.

The table is a fable.

IRL, yes. but in the game the maps are not designed around the concept of the player being able to fly. you’d be able to skip past jump puzzles and grab the chests, or get out of bounds all over the place with those gliders in the old maps.

What they said. As someone who’s spent a ridiculous amount of time exploring the edges of the map and looking for ways out I can think of quite a few places where gliding (or even a slightly longer jump than is possible with speed boosts/items) would get you outside the areas you’re supposed to be able to access, or even outside the entire map.

It would be a huge amount of work to fix, for relatively little benefit since the other side to those maps not being built with gliding in mind is that there’s no reason to glide, except for cool screenshots. There’s nothing you need to access, or most players would want to access (those who aren’t weirdos like me who find falling out the map entertaining) that you can’t simply walk/jump to.

It would also cause issues with WvW. There’s a few points I can think of where you’d probably be able to glide into keeps and towers, which would make defense even more pointless than it is now.

It would be a fun extra, I’d love to be able to glide through the Shiverpeaks for example, but not worth the work it would require from Anet.

I would be surprised if gliding wasn’t allowed in the new borderlands to be honest. I don’t see it fitting in EB, but the new borderlands are brand spanking new. It seems silly not to include something like that there.

I have to admit I forgot about that, I was thinking of the current WvW maps.

ArenaNet’s next expansion after HoT needs to be like WoW’s Cataclysm in the sense that all the vanilla maps are redone to accommodate the newer tech. This would also fix the problem with Orr, but they would need to revamp the personal stories to reflect the changes. New players could get a cinematic explaining the previous personal story and LS updates up to HoT. It would be a long opening cinematic or they could weave it in with flashbacks for a new story. If Anet is looking for a writer…please let me know! I have a lot of great ideas!

Assuming ArenaNet lasts that long, it’s very unlikely that they would do such thing in an expansion after HoT. In a recent interview, they mentioned that they won’t fix the fight against Zaithan because people tend to play new content more than old content.

So don’t expect to see much polishing of the features in the current Tyria.

Considering how poorly Cataclysm did, suggesting this is very surprising. Frankly, I would rather they focus on opening new areas than updating old ones.

They are giving up on Zhaitan and removing it as a story dungeon and making it an optional single player part of the personal story.

It won’t be optional if you want to complete the PS. However, it will become a PS instance that one can solo or bring in friends just like any other PS instance allows. The core experience of the dungeon will remain the same, just scaled differently.

All per Bobby Stein’s stickied post on the revamp.

Optional as in you can choose to still go with a group, but you can do it solo now. So there are options instead of it just being a 5 man group.
