I really hope they nerf this once HoT comes out, it is just too disproportionately rewarding (for time/effort). It served its purpose keeping people playing and not screaming for new stuff while we waited for HoT but it needs to be retired.
If you want money, you have to farm. If raiding is truly good…you will lose money doing it even if you have no deaths. That’s what raiding is. A challenge to defeat for unique looking gear…not to make money. You farm to make money.

There needs to be a place where people go to reap rewards. Always.
Case in point, does anyone go into Dry Top unless they need to?
Keep SW as is, or make another zone just as profitable.

SW chest runs are fine, it is available to everyone so let people do that if they wish to. I never understand why people feel the need to control what others are doing in a game. If anything, instead of nerfing the rewards here they should look to boosting them elsewhere.
They really should buff other places to farm not nerf SW, new fractals need to be more rewarding

They did. As of HoT the new map rewards system adds SW-like event chests to every zone in the core game, as well as area-specific currencies that can be traded for stuff similar to bandit crests (but for whole regions, so one currency for the whole shiverpeaks in stead of a different currency per zone)
In addition, they added a majoy sink for SW shovels in the guild mine upgrade system, so you’ll find a lot of players won’t be using their shovels for a while as they upgrade their halls.
They haven’t revealed exactly what those currencies can be traded for, but the overall goal is to make every zone much more rewarding to play in.
As for fractals, nobody knows, but anet’s approach for instances is usually that the rewards are less quantity and more about unique items, so It’s unlikely instances will ever be as good a farm as the open world, since they usually make unique instance rewards account bound.

bleh, adding a sink for shovels will just make people greedy with them. it makes chest runs the ONLY way to get chests (other than Vinewrath) since noone will use them at say the end of boss fights or just randomly.
chest runs are and were the most efficient way to use shovels. i guess maybe it will kill PUG chest runs and just leave guild chest runs :/

Unless thier is a new, more lucrative farm after HoT comes out, then nothing will replace it.
People will always find the easiest thing to do, to make money. Right now it’s SW.
they have to expand chest farm, not ditch it… SW is the only map I haven’t bored at all playing for hours.. lol
The red circle on the map is the equivalent of “ding” with jordan rings, during the 90s age (in diablo 1). Its so addictive. When u open a chest, you see a horde of players running into u.
With HOT they can give us alternative choices, not to nerf it. They could add some chests in the points of interest, where they want us to be. Also consider ascended requirement, or legendary for hot content. How people will do that, if they nerf farming… It will end up a sluggish greed world and people will abandon any effort for gearing up. Its not 1 or 2 or 5 items, it is chest, legs, shoulders, head, feet, 3-5 weapons and rings and stuff. If they nerf farming, people will need more than a half year to achieve it at a none stop rate and I dont think this is realistic, with a nerfed farm.
as for raids, people think raids is for farm, it is, if they give plenty of loot inside it. In the beta I ve experienced none and I didnt liked the way it is… Its beta though, they will improve it. Raids is definitely not my first priority in HOT, or goal at the momment.

I dont think raids will be the best way to farm gold once it requires a lot of coordenation and it ll be very difficulty to pug groups. In the other hand, SW chest runs is the easiest ``event´´ ever in this game, requires 0 brain and it is a very efficients way to farm gold/ascended craft materials nowaday ( but it is boring as hell). Can the new and hard content compete with this ? i would like the hear you opnion guys =)
At least for the first couple of weeks we will have the halloween lab, which was always a 5 star farm fest.
