When will we see changes to the mastery system. Because I’m still unable to max out my Tyria masteries because I’m not doing personal story, or any old living story achievements. It’s been about a year and there has been plenty of feedback on this system. Will there by any changes made to allow for alternativeways to get core Tyria mastery points?

I believe that they said that they had no intentions of adding on to the core mastery system. Core masteries is best to think of like a legacy system, even tho it’s only just over a year old.

I think you misunderstand the question. They’re not asking for more to be added to the core masteries, but for changes on how you get to them. Either new ways to get the points needed for the unlocks, or a reworking of the point system itself. Both of which might affect the entire mastery system.
Sadly, I really don’t think they care. It’s nowhere as big of a mess as the “events for traits” system was, and they took far too long to fix that. I suspect they’re going to just leave it as it is and convince themselves that it’s fine.

I’m not sure the Devs would change the system because some would not wish to do the Personal Story, which is a main component of core Guild Wars 2.
Which Mastery track’s benefits do you desire, but not enough to acquire the needed Mastery Points?
Legendary Crafting? There are other ways to obtain Legendaries, and Legendary Crafting probably requires a lot of content one may not be willing to do, if one balks at even the Personal Story.
Pact Commander? Pretty easy to complete without Living World Achievements and/or the Personal Story.
The Fractal Mastery can be completed in Fractals, I believe.
It would help if you listed out changes you would like to see made to the system

Perhaps I didn’t make my point clear enough, basically I’m saying that Core masteries, and the mastery points that can be obtained to expand those masteries, is basically a legacy system, they most likely aren’t going to add to it or change it.
wierd tho and im here with like 8 or 10 spare core tyria mastery point just by playing the game
Maybe they could add a way to buy core tyria mastery points with proofs of heroics

The OP mentions the Core Tyria masteries as example of a problem, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the only place people can run into it. And when the next expansion comes and adds in new masteries, the problem will get even bigger.
Any fix to the overall problem, such as removing mastery points or giving us a way to earn them with a repeatable mastery bar (like how one earns Spirit Shards if they’re done with masteries), may fix the problem of getting more points for Central Tyria as well.

Wouldn’t make much sense as those masteries are PvE.

And so are hero points and we can buy those.
I just extended that to the mastery points that people dont want to spend time to get like the racial armors for example or camping silverwaste for the rare spawns.
If they can chip away at it over time and get a random mastery point for lets say 10,25,50 or even 100 proof of heroics.
How do that affect you and me ( I assume you have completed core tyria masteries already aswell )
Edit
They would still have to gain the experience to level the masteries in pve ofcourse.

Hero points are different as those are used for abilities/traits which you need for WvW. If WvW had a seaparate system like sPvP then you’d have something there.

Difference between HP and masteries is that HP directly and heavily affect how effective you will be in WvW, whereas masteries don’t affect that at all. It makes sense to allow WvW players a way to earn their HP in WvW since it affects them a lot to not have their traits/skills unlocked.
As for the expensive/time consuming mastery points, well, without LWS2 there is 1 spare core tyria MP, and LWS2 introduces 16 new ones. 8 of those are trivial and you get them just from doing the story. A few of the other 8 are easy to get without much time/effort as well. I would say 4 of them are trivial. So that leaves you with a good 11-13 non story related core mastery points that you don’t have to get to still max them. That’s enough to skip all of the expensive and most time consuming ones.
@Palador’s and your solution do nothing but defeat the purpose of the mastery system in its current implementation. Its designed to reward you for doing very specific content. A decent portion of MP are awarded essentially for free in PvE, but to max your stuff you do have to invest time and effort into it. Being allowed to just buy MP through WvW would invalidate all of that.

This is intentional to get people to play specific content, esp if they want to max those mastery points.
The new expansion, in my assumption, will have it’s own tier of masteries available, where only earning experience in those zones + LS zones added after it’s release, will progress experience in those zones. This new mastery tier, let’s call it Expac 2 masteries, will have mastery points tied to achievements that are specific to that expansion pack. And that mastery points earned in the new expansion zones, should not be able to be used for HoT masteries.
This is how it should work.

There are 67 core Tyria mastery points available and only 49 points are needed to unlock all the masteries. Moreoever, if you aren’t interested in certain content, you don’t need all those masteries.
That offers a considerable variety of options for anyone who wants to avoid certain content. In particular, the OP can max out Pact Masteries without doing stories.
I’m not sure that it’s reasonable that they be able to max out all masteries if they don’t want to master all of the game’s content.

I’ve maxed out the Legendary Collection mastery line and I’ve maxed out all but the last Fractal masteries. I don’t have enough points for the last one. And I don’t have any points at all to put into Pact Commander.
I don’t want to do personal story. It’s lame. Living stories are interesting to me, I do those when they are out. I don’t do the achievements within them, but I play through and enjoy the story. I actually spent a lot of time in silverwaste before HoT came out and I have no interest in going back there really. I’ve tried Triple Trouble many times in the past, all failures and there are so many more current events to do. And I play the game everyday. I’ve done it all. I’ was a big solo roamer in WvW, I do a ton of pvp, I used to do a ton of dungeons, I used to do a lot of dynamic events, and I raid regularly.
And I still don’t have enough mastery points. I could get it if I did personal story. I’m not interested even a little bit to do personal story. It’s just not fun. I don’t like it. I’m not the only person who don’t have enough mastery points. For some, the issue may be HoT mastery points, because they don’t raid or w/e.
Anet should make mastery points available in the world that you commune with. Don’t lock character progress behind achieves. Achieves should award bonus stuff like transmutation charges or ascended mats, w/e. They ddin’t raise the level cap for HoT and make mastery system the way to progress your character. But here I am stuck, cause I won’t do personal story. if i could finish the whole thing in 40 minutes, i’d do it. But I read it’s something like 7 to 10 hours. I’m not doing that.

Perhaps, some day, you will change your mind.
If you want only one point, it takes little time to do the L10 Story arc, and you get a BL Key, as well!
It is unlikely the Devs will remove the Personal Story requirement, as it is one of the easiest to do.
Good luck.

I’m sorry you made some choices with which you aren’t pleased. Fractals generates more than enough points to max all of its masteries, so I’m not sure how you ended up one short. And I’m not entirely sure why you wanted to prioritize Legendary Collection over Pact.

Yes, you’re stuck because you don’t want to do the things that unlock points. It’s your choice to make. All the same, I’m not sure why the game should change because some folks don’t want to master some parts of the game to unlock mastery points.

because OriOri asked me to include names of achievements and more detail, post become longer and didn’t fit in one message.
To aovid chunked message I had to move mastery points list to another thread in here Core Tyria Mastery points
Full detail of these master points are in wiki here Mastery Points
Some of these are easy like if you can do personal story alone or get help from guild-mates. LFG is seriously useless in this matter! To do a single one of LWS2 achievement, I was in LFG for whole day until someone from guild helped me to complete 3 of them. A new player will have trouble finding someone to help them complete all these achievements and doing it with some classes are near impossible and for some other classes are very hard. I hope you are not expecting people to create a different class toon, max it to 80 and do all the LWS2 season twice.
Some of Fractal mastery points are easy too, if others don’t mind you not helping them and drag you to get the achievement, however some of them are very near to impossible!
And by the way good luck with mastery points in Rare collection. I have been doing dry-top events for almost 6 months and only had 4 Fossilized Insect drop. Try Fractal weapons!
Completing a dungeon will take you a day or two and dying 1000 times with a group from LFG, if you are able to find a group.
For the Dive Master how much luck do you need to find two Mesmer who has nothing to do other than porting you up “not so secret” for over 1000 times so you fall to your death because of lag or hitting some random object hidden behind smoke and fog while you are free falling.
For world bosses if you get lucky and fall into a well-organized map that people are using 3rd-party programs like teamspeak or discord or such then you might get all 4 Triple-Trouble achievements in 3 runs. For Tequatl you are going to run for a while like 20 or more times?!
Fashion even for me that bought 5 character slots with gold, looks expensive.

So first off, in your list of mastery points it would be helpful if you listed out which mastery points (or rather the achievements that grant them) with each category. Right now its just a big jumbled mess.
Secondly – You complain about being “forced” to do masteries in order to continue to gain spirit shards, yet then turn around and say immediately that you don’t want to make any legendaries. So what do you even need spirit shards en masse for? Stat changing ascended? Well you just admitted that you don’t mind not having ascended level stats on your weapon so I don’t see why you couldn’t just have several exotic grade weapons/armor pieces with all of the different stats you could use. Why do you need these spirit shards?
I don’t even understand your complaint about the pact commander mastery line. Do you like auto loot or not? The option to disable it is irrelevant, do you like it or not?
I agree that adventures are not the best feature of the expansion. I really don’t like most of them myself. But you don’t need to do a single adventure to max the HoT masteries anyway so…. Plus, I’m also not sure why you complain about HoT mastery points because you said yourself that you don’t even like playing in those maps.
Now about your analysis of core Tyria mastery points. Well its wrong I can tell you that. The 5 mastery points from the SW bosses, those are easy to get. And no, not just on the days with SW event completer daily. People regularly run SW trains, and as long as you hold the forts long enough a legendary boss will probably spawn (even though it is RNG). I’ve been working on finishing my carapace armor and luminescent collections, and every day that I have spent even an hour in SW I have seen at least 1 of those bosses spawn in the map.
You don’t have to do all of the LWS2 achievements. Even just completing the story is 8 points that you are just given. If they are too hard, don’t do them. For the fossilized insects, you get a guaranteed one at the end of a repeatable PvP/WvW reward track. You don’t have to mindlessly grind DT for months and rely on kittenty RNG to get those.
Dungeons do not take an entire day to complete. They take 2 hours max, and that is if your group is full of new players and people who don’t know what to do in the dungeon. Trust me, I’ve just ran through and completed all but Arah a few weeks ago. It most definitely does not take anywhere near all day to complete a dungeon.
TT does not require you to have TS or Discord. There are organized groups that kill TT every day in both the NA and EU servers. Just look for them in LFG ahead of time (30-45 min to guarantee a spot, though you will usually be fine if you show up 5-10 minutes before it starts). They explain everything in map/squat chat and have a very high success ratio for killing TT. Tequatl achievements can be done in much less than 20 kills.
But still, this all comes back to you wanting spirit shards yet not wanting legendary weapons and you also claim to not care about having ascended stats. So what on earth do you even need spirit shards en mass for?

5 Points – Requires you to kill 4 legendries that spawn in Silver wastes. This is only possible on the day that Silver-wastes event completer is in daily other than that most probably there are only enough people in map to see the Annihilator near Red Rock Bastion.
I feel you are misleading people terribly here. There are 1 or 2 different guilds that almost always have SW event maps going, and I see the assorted legendaries pretty regularly when I’m out there doing events. You just have to check the Core Tyria Squads section to get a taxi in.

Here I’m listing the 69 mastery points of Tyria (according to Wiki 67 which is wrong) but from player’s perspective. Correct me if I’m wrong:
- 1 point – have a level 80 character.
- 10 points – complete all Core Tyria personal story steps.
- 1 point – Map completion of 100% on all Tyria maps.
- 9 points – require you to complete world boss achievements (Triple Trouble 4, Tequatl 10, Karka Queen 1, Queen Chrii’kkt IV 1 achievements)
- 5 Points – Requires you to kill 4 legendries that spawn in Silver wastes. This is only possible on the day that Silver-wastes event completer is in daily other than that most probably there are only enough people in map to see the Annihilator near Red Rock Bastion.
- 5 Points – Requires you to do Jumping puzzles. This includes, Hidden Garden, Retrospective Runaround, Not So secret, Urmaug’s Secret and Weyandt’s Revenge.
- 8 points – Requires you to have LWS2 and just complete all episodes and steps once.
- 8 points – Requires you have LWS2 and complete 60 achievements (including 27 above) from LWS2. This requires you to do each step of story that has an achievement to complete at least twice (on the first time doing the instance secondary achievements are locked).
- 1 point – Requires you to have LWS2 and Complete 27 achievements on 4 LWS2 episodes of Seeds of Truth, Tangled Paths, Echoes of the Past, Point of No Return, Pay 10 gold and grind 1000 geodes in Dry Top.
- 1 point – Requires you to do Fractal, WvW and kill Tequatl and spend 10 silver, lots of Karma and combination of 50 ecto, 40 laurel, 5 gold and 12 guild Commendation).
- 1 point – Requires you to spend about 645gold or 323gold and 16120 Badges of Honor.
- 1 point – Requires you to max crafting level in 3 skills, grind resources or buy them from Trade post , buy 16 recipes for 54 gold and 90 laurel, and craft 16 pieces of Ascended armor, not counting the recipe for insignia which costs 21000 Karma assuming you will use same insignia for all the armor pieces.
- 14 points – Requires you to do fractals hoping you have a great team that don’t mind you not helping them and help you get the achievement.
- 2 Points – Requires you to do Fractals for rest of your life until you get all the weapons drop for you.
- 1 Point – Requires you to stay in Dry top for rest of your life and battle diminishing return and get 16 Unidentified Fossilized Insect dropped for you then craft 16 weapons which also requires you to max out 3 crafting skills.
- 1 Point – Requires you to complete 8 dungeons killing all bosses at least in one path.

One can only acquire 8 Mastery Points from the Personal Story, 1 per Level Arc. There’s your 2-point discrepancy.
I’m not sure that Urmaug’s and Weydant’s should be listed as required Jumping Puzzles (part of the Princess ‘scavenger hunt’ I’m guessing), unless one lists every JP and JP-like Vista required for World Completion.
Also, someone just posted now that they completed The Demolisher in The Silverwastes at barely Tier 2.
Seems like a bit of exaggeration, much like select posters ‘have something to say against it’.
Still, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Good luck.

First let me thank you for taking the time to list all these mastery points and writing all that you did. Lots of good advice and I appreciate you genuinely wanting to help. Thank you.
I did get 27 core mastery points just from playing the game. Just doing things I enjoy doing. I didn’t feel like I went out of my way for any of those 27 points.
I’ve never been into achievements. Back when I played WoW there were some cool dungeon achieves I used to do with a group of friends, but in this game it doesn’t feel the same. It feels like a chore. And really, when I’m playing games, I don’t do anything that feels like a chore to me.
I looked through the achieves many times. Silverwaste I can do I guess. It’s not a major time investment. Any living story achievements I just won’t do. I’m just not into it. And it’s not a matter of it being easy or hard. Cause none of this is hard really. And even personal story which I refuse to do isn’t hard. Personal story is dumbed down content. Story mode of Arah used to be cool, and even that was nerfed to be mind numbingly boring. And that’s on purpose, so anyone can get it done. Difficulty isn’t a factor. It’s just a long boring chore. The collections are a no go since those are technically achievements too. I collect things I like and will use. Collecting just for the sake of collecting appeals to some, but not to me. But I will probably just suck it up and just do personal story to get the rest of the mastery points I need. But thank you again for taking the time out to write that up for me. It was very nice of you.
And to those that are saying that the game shouldn’t change to suit me, or anyone. I’ll just say this, it’s always nice to have more options for everything. More options have never seemed like a bad thing to me in MMOs. That’s really all it comes down to. If there more options to get core tyria mastery points just from doing the things I like to do in game, then I would have enough. Cause I play enough. I play everyday pretty much. If i don’t have it, it just comes down to there not having enough ways to get it. I’m not asking them to remove existing ways to get mastery points. I’m asking for more ways. You may say, “this is plenty already!” I still say, more options would be nice.

I did that just for you, however message didn’t fit in one post anymore so I moved it to other thread.
Secondly – You complain about being “forced” to do masteries in order to continue to gain spirit shards, yet then turn around and say immediately that you don’t want to make any legendaries. So what do you even need spirit shards en masse for? Why do you need these spirit shards?
here is list of items you can buy with *"Spirit Shard":https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Spirit_Shard
between these items you can see “Mystic Crystal”, “Philosopher’s Stone”, “Eldritch Scroll” and “Augur’s Stone”, I’m not going to discuss this more, you can look at wiki for their use and I believe Shard are the only currency that you can use to buy them. and by the way I didn’t even know it is required for legendary weapons.
I don’t even understand your complaint about the pact commander mastery line. Do you like auto loot or not? The option to disable it is irrelevant, do you like it or not?
Well, I bought the game about 1 or 2 months before HoT and that option was there and I was using it. I’m not sure if it was intended to be like that or it was a bug that it was available. When HoT came, that option become disabled and I could enable it after completing Pact commander. is this enough explanation? Also please note that, same option doesn’t work in WvW until you put 16 points in Provision mastery (correct me if I’m wrong).
You don’t have to do all of the LWS2 achievements. Even just completing the story is 8 points that you are just given. If they are too hard, don’t do them.
This is what I mentioned in my post, however you have to pay 2000 gems to buy it first. am I right?
For the fossilized insects, you get a guaranteed one at the end of a repeatable PvP/WvW reward track.
I attached a screenshot of my WvW. It has been like this for weeks. This week our server is joined with 2 other servers and our rank for today is 1100 against 1850 and 2300. How long would you think it is going to takes to finish the reward track 16 times?
TT does not require you to have TS or Discord. There are organized groups that kill TT every day in both the NA and EU servers. Just look for them in LFG ahead of time (30-45 min to guarantee a spot, though you will usually be fine if you show up 5-10 minutes before it starts).
I am playing this game for almost 2 years, I had no success killing even single head. that map is my mat grinding area and if someone says they are grouping for TT i would see it. I get all wurm achievements after I met TTS guild just a 2~3 months back. they do TT at least 3~5 times a week. I still need to join TS3 to hear the instructions of the group leaders, they change strategy depending who is leading which head.
But still, this all comes back to you wanting spirit shards yet not wanting legendary weapons and you also claim to not care about having ascended stats. So what on earth do you even need spirit shards en mass for?
I believe I answered this a few lines above.
You are welcome to choose the 49 easiest Tyria mastery points possible for OP and others who are frustrated with amount of work needed to do them.
Anyway, all the above reply and reply to reply is off topic IMO. the important thing is I need the mastery points lock down removed. I still think if someone need the reward from mastery track it is their choice and they can do it, but making me do it because I want and need something else is so wrong!
What I am trying to say is, I hate JP to the bone! My PVP rank is rabbit (does this explains how much I like PVP?) and I do WvW if our world is active and there are at least 30 people are in map. I enjoy crafting, selling and buying in TP and gathering resources.
I have about half an hour to 1 hour a day to play (except weekend) which I rather relieve stress from work and not do something like JP that everytime I fall mid way I get more angry!

From the Wiki: ‘Note that for the Hero achievements, a mastery point is only awarded the first time a player completes the personal story arc for that level…’.
Again, only 8 Mastery Points for the Personal Story, as there are 8 and only 8 Level Arcs.

I think bob counting world completion and getting to 80 twice in their calculations since they are both under hero.
And then the second time for them selfs.
