Q:
where did it all go wrong
make things a little more user friendly would be a good start.
We could say that about your trainwreck of a paragraph. SPACING!! Proper use of periods! Start sentences with capital letters to show clear beginnings and ends
So, to rewrite it so I don’t get a brain freeze from reading it.
I remember years ago playing guild wars and enjoying every minute playing it. Then gw2 comes along and yes, just as good as the original. Then the rot set in. The living story was introduced and all we got was jumping puzzles and more jumping puzzles. The game became a massive platformer.
Then heart of thorns appeared and gone are the days of solo play. If you’re not in a group then you’re stuffed, no way to do things on your own. Then worst of all RAIDS, no ascended gear then you’ve no chance. You can’t even get in the kitten place. Many people don’t enjoy crafting, of which I’m one, so we are penalized and will never get the opportunity to try these events out. Make things a little more user friendly would be a good start. and bring back more solo play.
So, what I get from this is that….
After launch the game became a massive platformer? Untrue. Some temporary ones were added, but the vanilla content remains the same.
Heart of thorns is solo unfriendly? Ok, I’ll buy that. After I died a few times, I switched up my gear and made it more defensive so that I could solo. Try switching up your gear if you’re being one shot. Add mango pie to get a continuous health stream and increased vitality.
Raids are impossible without ascended gear? Debatable. People are doing it now in full exotics. Try finding others who don’t have ascended or bite the bullet and get some. Laurels, fractals and commendations will buy you the trinkets, amulets and rings. Craft one set of weapons that you need, and you’ll have what most people have.
ANet may give it to you.
If you can’t do the events in Heart of Thorns, you’re doing something wrong, because there are plenty of people soloing them, including some pretty casual people in my guild. It doesn’t take huge numbers of people to experience the new zones, it takes a bit of thinking and planning. It’s only hard if you make it hard.
If you decide you can’t do it, no one will ever be able to change your mind…but it doesn’t mean that you can’t do it. It means you decided that it’s too hard and you don’t really want to learn how.
OP you got bored of GW2 years ago with its easy zones that can be solo’d, so now you want more solo play, but you don’t want to solo in HOT because its slightly more challenging? Then you don’t like crafting, and you dont like jumping puzzles. Not quite sure how you will like raiding, that’s not solo either. I think your in the wrong game/genre.

but would also result in a product that might not satisfy anyone”- Roman Pichler, Strategize
I find it pretty readable, at least it is short.
I get a fair amount of enjoyment just soloing. For those that need a group, I just don’t do them. I ran to people here and there and complete some of the group content too. I did most of the map completion in HoT just soloing.
I didn’t have much complaint, because my philosophy is if you don’t want to do something, don’t do them.
Anet made a bunch of content I dont’ want to do, so I just dont’ do them.
Have to say OP, I kitted out my Revenant in Ascended gear I got from leveling my PvP rank. Armor, weapons and rings. Didn’t craft one for him. And I don’t ply all that much, I’m only just over 1K hours played, maybe. Not looked in awhile.
Also I find HoT much easier to solo if you play a ranged class. My Guard and warrior had a harder time in HoT than my Ranger.

I don’t really agree with the solo play part since i thought difficulty and group play was something that was missing from the base game.
I do however miss things made it fun anyway. Zones that focused on exploration with all sorts of neat stuff hidden and dynamic events that pulled you in all sorts of directions.
Whatever happened to them? They seemed to have scrapped the idea entirely instead of refining them. Now we just have event chains that are on a timer that only have 2 stages, they either succeed or they fail. The old zones were enjoyable to revisit because the events seemed so random, with lots of players around you’d often get diffirent events or new ones you hadn’t done before.
Now it’s the same chains over and over and over. Some randomness would increase longevity a lot.
Why are bundles you find on the ground so crappy? This was such a cool feature made useless since they were so much worse than your regular skills. What if branches or whatnot absolutely decimated a break bar or at least stunned for a long time, you’d want to pick them up and use them.
I like the new zones because they are gorgeous, fun to traverse and the enemies are fun to fight but there’s a lot from the core design that is missing.

- I have cleared the new PvE zones solo.
- I have done the raid in exotics with ascended trinkets, which come from laurels, which are just handed to you for playing the game.
So either I’m a godly player that can achieve the impossible (nope), or you are just stating your personal opinions and portraying them as facts depicting a false image of the current state of the game.
Hmmmmmmm.

That’s why I find it puzzling when people say the new zones aren’t soloable. You can solo “most” of it.
And quite honestly, the mini game is harder to solo than most of the expansion, and you have to do that solo. And believe me, I can’t solo the mini game, but I can do most of the expansion.
