Why would I craft ascended gear with viper/trailblazer/minstrel stats?
Isn’t it much cheaper to craft e.g. Zojja(berserker) ascendeds and change their stats in the mystic forge to circumvent the 50 fulgurite?
Am I missing something?

Yes, that is cheaper. The other method is a nice gold sink for the ignorant.

It is a lot cheaper. If you run fractals enough and have a good drop rate on ascended chest then it removes the whole crafting process.
