12 years to kill the last dragon?
I’m not really certain they plan on going through all of them… But I guess if the game stays around long enough, they might as well keep going, unless they can come up with something better plot-wise. It’s a weird position they’re in, since continuing to do dragons would be boring, but doing something else would be weird, since the dragons are still the biggest threat to Tyria.
Why assume that we will only ever face one Dragon at a time?
We also have to keep in mind that all other Dragons (as far as we know) are already awake, while the story about Mordremoth have spent two years to basically “start”. And as such it is rather unlikely that it will take as much time between the other Dragons.

I’m sure the China release took a year off the time too.
I agree.
There is to much dragon lore involved right now. Jormag and Krakalltorik can’t be just put at rest with no lore developed around them. Same goes for Primordus as he already influenced GW1.
The situation is different for the DSD as he could be dismissed by saying the Canthan people took care of it (and in the same time that would “explain” why we have no interest to go there…). I’m sure Cantha has his very own personal Trahearne taking care of everything…

I’d love to fight more dragons at once. Or maybe, make them kill each other and have popcorn watching the fight

“Right lads! Just aim this loaded Primordus at Jormag and let him go! If you need to refuel there’s a few Svanir camps to the east.”

I think we will probably face 2 at a time after this or something. That and it should come quicker now that china is launched and the core systems are established. I’d expect:
Mordy- 2015
dragon 3- 2017
dragon 4- 2018
dragon 5&6- 2020
Lifetime of the game will probably mean we never see dragon 5&6 unfortunately, since there are only 1 or 2 MMO’s in existence that had development that lasted longer than 6 years.
I would rather not have to kill every single dragon. The pact/other could kill some dragons without us, and we only hear about it via ingame lore while doing something else.
Perhaps killing them isn’t the answer either. Could be a way of forcing them back to sleep as to not mess with their magical connections within the world. That would be the quick easy way out to wrapping things up.
An alternate long term plan could be the dragons win the battle. What if they stand up and utterly destroy Tyria. Set up for a future Guild Wars 3, perhaps after another 100-200 years. There are other continents other than Tyria/Elona and Cantha to explore.
I’m of the opinion that Primordus and another dragon’s story will be told at the same time. I also think that we will never see the water dragon.
When I talked about killing, I actually meant “dealing” with the dragons, no matter the way.
I don’t think Anet would destroy Tyria. But I would like to explore the other continents too. Never understood why all the dragons are concentrated on this rather small part of tyria (if you compare to the world map we discovered).
My first thought was, “how terrifying would it be if the remaining dragons, seeing the others actually defeated, actually started working together? That’d be awesome.”
But no… This:
Or maybe, make them kill each other and have popcorn watching the fight
This this this this this!
What a theme to explore, that being caught in the middle of an all-out war between the dragons, coping with a world without any balance, would be even worse than where we are today!

Well, Kralkatorrik seems to have migrated into the Crystal Desert or even beyond that into Elona, while Bubbles the DSD has blocked off all access to Cantha (besides Zephyrite airships perhaps, but that ship has… crashed.).
Ef we players actualy get to fight these dragons, I can imagine it being in some kind of expansion linking to the other continents. Hell, Primordus’ current domain, the Depths of Tyria, spread all over the world if Eye of the North was to be believed.
I don’t think the story should go to a single direction against one dragon every time, ignore the other dragons when all the dragons are awoke. Not to say the dragons might fight each other.
Let’s wait and see :P There’s a good chance an expansion featuring Mordremoth is on the way! Depending on how it pans out, we may see a very well done campaign, and perhaps fighting them one at a time won’t be so bad :P Of course, if it’s a repeat of Zhaitan, I wouldn’t mind killing them off faster.
It’s possible that after M, Tyria will be caught between J and P making their move against Tyria and each other. Not only would it allow for some metaphorical parallels and contrasts between Tyrian and draconic disunity, but Fire and Ice are pretty traditional motifs for opposing factions (and conveniently map to red and blue, which are pretty traditional colors for opposing factions, at least in games).
We really have no idea why the gods left — there has been speculation that it was due to the dragons, but if divine fire really is a such threat to the dragons, then it’s possible that the gods could probably stand their ground pretty well against dragons and the reason for their departure is entirely unrelated. That provides a pretty reasonable excuse for changing the subject entirely — have whatever threat they left to fight in Tyria’s equivalent of Asgard finally invade Tyria, introducing something otherworldly that is a greater threat than even the dragons. After four dragons, people will be fatigued enough that they will probably welcome something other than a dragon to fight.
Since anet loves their tropes, they can build up Kralkatorrik over several living story episodes as finally making his move on Tyria, and just as the climatic battle is about to begin, the gods emerge from a portal with no f’ing warning or foreshadowing, falling back to Tyria after their homeworld is lost, and they just smite K and his army into shards almost as an afterthought.
This isn’t really a lore topic, is it?

But what I mean is even further than Cantha. Elona is actually on the same continent than Tyria. But if you look at the world map, we are in a rather small part of it (Counting Tyria, Cantha and Elona).
But exploring the Depths of Tyria would be awesome to. I actually loved it during GWEN.
Problem I see with more than one dragon per expansion: it would be a rather BIG expansion. The dephts for primordus, the far shiverpeaks for Jormag, Crystal Desert and maybe further south Elona for Krakalltorik are vast regions. To make two of them in one expansion would require a lot of effort and time.
And although I think it would be easy to get rid of one dragon by leaving the gods or the canthan people take care of it, I think many would be disappointed. I know I would. But than again, so much other interesting lore to develop…

I actually posted this topic in the “General discussion” forum, but it was moved here by moderation.
If I were calling the shots, I think I’d handle the expansions and introduction of non-dragon antagonists in the following manner:
First Expansion – already in motion
Second Expansion – the Pact is in tatters and new allies are needed. We sneak into Elona via the Order’s hidden route to liberate the Elonians from Palawa Joko’s tyranny. They ally with us to fight Kralkatorrik.
Third Expansion – a naval strike on the Deep Sea Dragon is thwarted and the fleet destroyed. We wake up alone on the shores of Cantha. [file not found], and eventually defeat Bubbles.
Fourth Expansion – Jormag and Primordus realize they’re not invincible. They both lash out at Tyria, causing great devastation. They’re not working together, but both attacking at once overwhelms an already diminished resistance and much of Tyria falls to fire or ice.
I’m not sure how I would resolve the third and fourth expansions, but that’s the basic outline of how I would allow players to explore other lands and fight other antagonists while still giving the fight against the dragons the urgency it demands.
So far the lore has been hinting at the fact that very bad things (might) happen when you kill an Elder Dragon. So far we’ve killed 1 and we’re on our way to kill another. I have a feeling that the narrative won’t just be: kill dragon, kill next dragon, kill next dragon etc.
We’ll finish it off in GW3. I’m fine with that.
