A few Questions.
Hey,
1. What is going on in Godlost Swamp? Whats up with that place?
It is the former location of the Temple of Ages, where you could enter the God realms (like the Underworld) in Guild Wars 1. It has now fallen in disarray, and sunken into the swamp. The Temple of Ages was always located in a swamp, but the sinking may have had something to do with the departure of the Gods, and faith in them waning. The place has also been overrun with spirits from the Underworld. Why these creatures are leaking into Tyria, we do not know. But it seems to have something to do with the weakening of the barriers between Tyria and the Mists.
2. What is going on in Brisban Wildlands? Why do the Inquest/Nightmare/Bandits all have an interest in it? Why does the Queen of the Humans have an interest in it? Why is there such large super natural presence?
The bandits seem to be forming some sort of a secret alliance, which The White Mantle might have something to do with. It could be part of a secret uprising against the Queen, which would also explain her interest in it. Does it have a higher super natural presence than other areas? I’m unaware of that.
3. Why did Tequatl rise in power? (Keep in mind that Anet doesn’t want to make paradoxes with the personal storyline. Tieing it to Zhaitian would not only create a paradox, but make a HUGE spoiler for any new players).
It is hinted at by the devs that there is a good story reason why he became stronger, but we do not know what that reason is currently.
4. Why did Scarlet want to kidnap the queen?
I don’t believe that was her intent, or she would have tried harder. I think she simply wanted to make a show, and put the Queen to shame.
5. If an Elder Dragon is behind Scarlet, why does he need to raise such large armies? Why not just corrupt them?
One of the reasons why I personally don’t think an Elder Dragon is behind Scarlet. There might be Elder Dragon involvement, but I don’t think she serves one.
6. Who whispered to Scarlet that would require the being to be directly connected with the “eternal alchemy”?
We do not know the exact details of how and why Scarlet came into contact with this mysterious being, so this question is almost impossible to answer.
7. What happened to the Gargoyles?
I believe a dev may have answered this in the past, but I simply forgot.
8. How exactly did the thaumonova reactor tie into the living story?
We do not know if it ties in at all. We know Scarlet was (kind of) present before the melt down, but currently we do not know if this is relevant to the Living Story. We also don’t know if Scarlet was simply visiting through the Mists (like we are), or if she was actually there before it happened.
9. How would have the abbadon fractal done the same?
It’s pointless to speculate on the Abaddon fractal at this point. Unless they suddenly decide to make it anyway.

What do you think about the whole dhuum theory? I mean other names for Dhuum are “The Mouth at the Edge of Darkness” and “The Voice in the Void” which could hint at the whole whispering and the sea of darkness.
1. Malafide already covered most of this. The influx of adventurers using the Temple of the Ages to travel to and from the Underworld wore the barrier between them thin, and now things can leak through from the other side, although why they are doing such is unknown. It happens in Reaper’s Gate too, which was another point of entry to the Underworld.
2. The only question we know the answer to for sure is your second- the Queen is sending the Seraph in to investigate reports of surviving White Mantle. That may or may not relate to your other questions- it’s known that the Mantle have a relationship with the bandits, though of what nature and to what extent is a mystery- but we just don’t know for sure, about the Sinister Triad or the ghosts.
3. No idea. ANet left that deliberately vague, but hinted that the Living Story may return to it.
4. We don’t know that she did. We don’t know how Faren and the others survived the fall, and by extension rather Scarlet planned on their survival. If she did, though, from what we saw in her playhouse, she just wanted new toys to ‘play’ with.
5. We don’t know that that’s the case- I personally don’t believe it- but if so it may be because corruption would make it obvious that she’s doing dragonwork. This way would preserve anonymity and avoid the attention of the Pact.
6. no idea, though the forum is bursting at the seems with theories.
7. No idea.
8. To my knowledge, no dev specifically stated that it did matter in the greater story arc, and we have had plenty of releases that are irrelevant in that greater scheme (Halloween, Wintersday, SAB) but if there is a tie it’s either because of the leylines or Kiel’s growing animosity towards the Consortium.
1) Mostly as Malafide said, except that we do know why the spirits have entered the world. Some time ago, a necromancer attempted to force her way into the Underworld and made what seems to be a blood ritual to do so. However, after opening the portal she could not close it and the journal from said necromancer, it’s said the portals were growing stronger until night came… where the journal ends.
It’s also explained that the numerous adventurers going into the Mists from Temple of the Ages (aka the GW1 players going to the Underworld/Fissure of Woe) weakened the barrier between Tyria and the Mists. This is what allowed the necromancer above to open her portals in the first place (and what drew her there).
2) The Inquest, Nightmare Court, and Bandits (some – or all – are backed by the White Mantle) are there mainly because it’s wilderness and it’s out of the way, away from prying eyes. They are also there to form an alliance (dubbed the Sinister Triad). The Seraph are there investigating rumors of White Mantle in the area. All of this is explained by talking to heart NPCs before completing the hearts (sometimes after too).
By supernatural presence, are you referring to the southwestern corner of Toxal Bog and the like? The teleportation is caused by Thaumanova Reactor’s explosion just south of it, with an energy course of it having been moved to an Inquest lab just north of Toxal Bog. If you mean something else, you’d have to elaborate.
3) As Malafide said. It’s a “we will learn later” thing.
4) It is said in an interview that Scarlet literally did the whole Queen’s Jubilee stuff on a whim. She had no prior thought of doing such, but saw Jennah mentioning that humanity has been tested and basically went “well not by me you haven’t!” and caused havoc. I doubt she had any real plans for Jennah other than making her the target of her attack for “testing humanity.”
5) If an Elder Dragon is behind it. And maybe it doesn’t? Maybe Scarlet just made the armies on her own terms. Or if it does – an army to corrupt upon awaking is good to have when there’s an anti-Elder Dragon army out there. Honestly though, I think that Scarlet’s out to hinder the Pact – first by attacking its supporters (all but the Orders have been targetted of the Pact’s main supporters – norn, Iron Legion, Lion’s Arch, and Queen Jennah’s supporters). Maybe it’s all three.
6) She didn’t see the Eternal Alchemy. Though never brought up in-game because it wouldn’t make sense and Scarlet does believe she saw the Eternal Alchemy, it was stated in an interview that she “didn’t see what she thought she saw” – so she didn’t see the Eternal Alchemy. As for what the voice was… we just learned there was a voice. Who it is will likely be answered later (maybe not even before Scarlet’s death).
7) As far as I know, this is a 100% mystery.
8) It doesn’t. Not directly. We learned Scarlet was there, but it’s only the Thaumanova Fractal that ties into the Living World story. It’s possible that Kiel will return to the Thaumanova and Inquest plot, but as it stands, not likely to happen until Scarlet’s defeated.
9) As Malafide said. And it would have tied in by Evon’s interest in it. How far that interest would go is pointless to speculate because it isn’t going to happen. Well, I suppose it’s possible to still happen if we nag Anet enough. But it seems people prefer complaining about Scarlet and not doing anything but complaining about Scarlet.

Not exactly. This is the TowerTalk one, right? McGough cast doubt on rather she saw the Eternal Alchemy, but he didn’t say she didn’t.
What he said was “she didn’t see what she thought she saw.”
She thought she saw the Eternal Alchemy.

What he said was (and curse the inability to speed forward on these things!) “she engages in an experiment with an advanced asuran thinker, Omadd, and during the course of this experiment, which I would describe as sort of a thought experiment in the Greek sense, the traditional Greek sense, and also an isolation, um… an isolation chamber. She’s, she’s put in this, removed from all physical external stimuli, and allowed, her mind was allowed to run free. And during the course of this experiment, she feels, and the way she describes it, she saw the Eternal Alchemy, she caught a glimpse of the Eternal Alchemy, the great asuran unifying ( audio issue here) energy to get this transcendent (another audio issue) ‘size and shape of the universe, I know how the drive of the universe works, and now that I understand that I can transcend them.’ So she’s had this moment, it’s a sanity-breaking moment, she feels like she has seen things sane people can’t understand or articulate, and in seeing it, and in understanding it, it has given her a new perspective, a point of view, that most people would describe as insane. She’s not thinking clearly by standard, uh, definitions, but she is able to achieve, um, leaps and progress that traditional thinkers can’t, and that’s one of the reasons she’s able to do such miraculous things, how she’s able to basically take on an entire city with just a handful of her own minions. Uh, Scarlet’s technical abilities give her (stutters) make opportunities for her, and they create power for her, and that’s been her path to power, that’s been her path to individuality. Um, she, the more she learns the more she can do, the more she can do, the more she can learn, and she’s on this perpetual loop of ’I’m trying to expand and increase my knowledge so that I can do pretty much whatever I want.’ Um, we’re going to get deeper into the character, we’re going to find out exactly what Scarlet wants and what she’s building towards in the coming months of the Living World story, but for now we were interested in presenting her as ‘here is her introduction’. It’s big, it’s flashy, like she is herself, uh, she draws a lot of attention to herself and it’s basically her wake-up call, you know, ‘Hello world, I’m here and now you have to deal with me.’”
Angel: “And if I could add to that as well, I think the moment Scarlet had her, had her… communion with the universe, uh, and came to understand how it all works in her own mind, that’s how she sees it, um, I think that’s the moment when she turned her sights outward. Before that, she was entirely focused on learning, which is why we, we didn’t see her for so long. Uh, from the moment she was born to, uh, later, you know, she has been learning, she’s been studying with these masters, she’s been… roaming around from place to place to place, looking for knowledge. She gets that knowledge, and now she’s turned her sights outward and she is, uh, actively looking at the world and how she can interact with it and how she can poke it. One of my favorite expressions for her is that ‘she loves to poke the bear.’ Uh, that, that’s her thing, she, she likes to poke the sleeping bear.”
alElisande: “Yeah… so her breaking moment was actually when she was outside… outside the normal world. As you said Scott, when she saw the, um…”
Scott: “(indistinct) sort of meditative state, we don’t know if she actually traveled to another place, or if she just thought she did, or if her mind did, but yes, uh, she was in a very unusual, um, almost dreamlike place where she was, and she felt she caught this understanding of the world, and reality. So it wasn’t anywhere in Tyria, it was, it was in her own head, and it remains to be seen how, how much of that is actually accurate and how much of that is just her broken psyche.”
TL;DR: He never said “she didn’t see what she thought she saw.” Nothing plus one equals one. If my word isn’t enough, feel free to burn 40 minutes too. http://wartower.tumblr.com/post/60458277036/this-lorespecial-is-about-scarlet-briar-the-evil
scott needs to learn how to take deep breaths to contain his excitement and nervousism when talking :P
It wasn’t quite as run-on as I made it look. He just started a lot of sentences with “and”, and my inner grammar kitten wouldn’t let me leave that be.
he’s usually really agitated when he talks, which causes a lot of stuttering and “ums”. that’s something i’ve noticed at least
A lot of people are like that in interviews, especially those who don’t practice public speaking in their work, and those who are toeing the line on what they can or cannot talk about or allude to. I think Scott was feeling both of those factors in this one.
it’s not that i don’t understand why he does it, i just find it amusing is all :P
Might have been a different inferview then but!
“So it wasn’t anywhere in Tyria, it was, it was in her own head, and it remains to be seen how, how much of that is actually accurate and how much of that is just her broken psyche.”
Still, I explicitly recall a “she didn’t see what she thought she saw” line somewhere from an interview.
