Guild Wars 2

Hey fellow Guild Wars fanatics,

I’ve been playing Guild Wars since the launch of the first one and have since fallen in love with the lore. This is my first post in the official forums over the course of the 7+ years I’ve been playing and I thought I should make it count (and ambitiousness overcame me).

I recently just posted a topic over at the Guild Wars 2 subreddit regarding an AMA Request with the Lore Developers or the writers in general explaining my thoughts and reasons for my interest, which can be seen over at:

In short, now that the majority of players have experienced the personal story progression / dungeon story modes, it would be nice to have some dialogue with how the writers felt they did right or what they could potentially work upon. This also includes the possibility about how the lore would move forward with the upcoming patches in early 2013.

I am sorry for my obliviousness in some things, but what exactly is an AMA?

I’ll just say, I’d be very interested in a Lore-centric AMA.

Will we learn more about the gods through extended visits of the rest of Orr?
Is Koda real, and if so how does he relate to everyone else’s dieties?
If the Giganticus Lupicus in Arah is what the creature looked like in life, what are those skeletons found throughout Ascalon and the Crystal Desert?
Where did Southsun Cove come from?
Why did people go to the Eternal Battlegrounds in the first place?
Will we ever get a chance to visit old places in the Mists like the Hall of Heroes, the Underworld, the Fissure of Woe, and the now Redeemed Realm?
Tied in with the previous, are Dhuum and Menzies back?
Is there a 6th? (Highly doubt that will be answered, lol)

Honestly these are just a fraction of the questions that can be asked. But they’re great questions nonetheless. I’m also quite interested in seeing how they’ll make their take on the Ring of Fire/Crystal Desert areas, and if they have any plans for it.

The main thing I really want to ask is if they’ll plan on anything for PVP Lore, specifically on Heroes Ascent from Guild Wars 1 which was my favourite form of PvP and if they would consider anything similar, or a revisit to the Hall of Heroes.

The writers would be my top choice for an AMA, personally.

Though I agree with the fact that Trahearne is very annoying and could have had more depht in his character, I would kindly not suggest to call him salad-head. It is disrespectfull to all Silvari, including players like me.

On topic. I would like an AMA with the writers. But also would like to ask to have a little bit more bout the possible questions. Though it means anything can be asked, my fear is a bit proven with Kain’s comment that an AMA now would mostly mean it would go round aspects of the game that are not so much liked. That would mean the writers would prolly be dissapointed in such an event and might likely not repeat it in the future.

So to make the writers enthousiastic, please post some of your possitive questions here

Mine would be:
‘Can you tell us more bout ’bubbles’. I have a hunch that the Karka event has a connection with the deep sea dragon, but it would be nice if you could confirm this connection. I also am interested if we are going to learn more bout the nature of this dragon in the near future (any solid information like a name would be welcome as well off course)’

To be clear, I’m not discouraging critisism, I also think that e.g. Trahearne is a poorly written character, a bit like prince Rurik in GW1, and I wish Trahearne the same faith in the near future. But I do want to prove there will be a nice balance in our questions.

In all seriousness, I would like to know the inspiration behind his character. It would make me like him more if we could see “what could’ve been” that they wanted to capture.

Generally writers are able to make very great stories. But due to executive meddling, their visions aren’t able to come to life.

@mercury: the sylvari are a race of mary-sues, they deserve all disrespect they get, imo. :P

My questions for the AMA:

What’s going on in the Crystal desert? Were the branded, the risen and Palawa Joko’s forces possibly fighting a 3-way battle there? If yes, has this changed since Zhaitan’s death?
What other consequences did the death of Zhaitan have?
Why do all races celebrate wintersday now? Wasn’t it a human celebration of changing seasons? This aspect seems to be gone entirely now.
How accurate is the world map seen in the OoW HQ?
Why do the Largos look like they could easily live on land, if they are supposed to be a mostly aquatic race? Did they evolve on land and settle in the sea at one point or vice versa?
Forgotten and Naga are said to be unrelated, but what about Krait and Naga? Do they share common ancestry?
What happened to the Krait’s power of metamorphosis?

1.) Are there any plans to have the choices we made in our personal stories (particularly the choice of Orders, but potentially other things as well) affect how our characters’ stories continue in future expansions?

2.) Have the writers had any changes in thinking in regards to telling the personal story in response to player feedback?

AMA Question: Now that Palawa Joko dominated Elona, is he still an evil leader? Is there a possibility we may remain allies with him?

Please Kain, I’ve wanted to punch that dick in the face for years because of the way he lorded it over us that we needed him in order to destroy a greater evil. If they don’t give me a chance to end this I might go insane…

I actually suspect (and hope) we have to ally with Joko again to fight the bigger threat (Krallkatorrik). It would play so wonderfully with player’s expectation. Since we first heard of Joko ruling Elona now, everyone was like “oh so he will be the villian of the Elona expansion.” Making him the lesser evil again, would be so delightful. :9

Seems like more of a cheap repeat of the old content to me. I just want to set him on fire and see if undead flesh does eventually burn off or not….. Zhed had the right idea afterall.

Let’s try and breath some life into this thread/request!
