At heart, love tech when it comes to RPGs, some of my favorite games I play involve tech themes. I want a little more background information on Aetherblade technology. I know that it seems to runs off of steam and electricity, and that the Aetherblade use it to do a myriad of things, but I want to go more in depth. If anyone has an insight for me, please post!

P.S. If there is a general overview of all tech for each race, and how it is used, and such, please point me in the direction of the information.

I always figured that they ran on magic. Scarlet had most of her technological education done within the Asuran colleges, so it wouldn’t be hard to imagine that she uses power sources similar to theirs.

Not to mention the fact that the Aetherblades are allied to the Inquest, and I’m pretty certain that a bunch of pirates aren’t creating the ships, but they are instead most likely getting them from their Inquest allies (I refuse to believe that they stole thousands of pact airships without the pact wanting some retaliation against them).

^ Actually, you do see the Aetherblades constructing the ships in the new TA. My guess is that they stole a template and reverse-engineered it.

were allied*

The ships were originally stolen by the Pact – this was said by Angel and Scott McCoy (and note that there’s never more than 10 or so airships in the invasions, so there’d have been about 14 ships stolen if all pre-TA ships were once Pact ships – unless you counted balloon event ships as well in which you’d probably have about 64 and 10 more when invasions struck – only 2 have ever been shot down) – and likely modified by the Inquest initially. Likely reverse engineered after the first few if they’re constructing them now. But unless there’s Inquest in the new TA path (which I still haven’t done, half out of refusal, half out of lack-of-interest, and half out of laziness to find a team (it’s a pretty big reason)).

There aren’t, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. There weren’t any MA or Twisted clockworks there either (unless you count the Clockheart) and very few steam creatures. On top of that the base was still under construction, so I doubt anyone had moved in beyond the construction crews and what was necessary to meet Scarlet’s quotas.

Aetherblade tech seems to be a combination of Charr steam technology combined with Asuran magi-tech, although there’s also copious amounts of electricity involved (Caithe describes it as “shielding” in the last fight, so it’s up in the air as to whether it’s real electricity as we would describe it or simply Air magic) that’s probably the result of Scarlet’s own improvements to the technology.

Scarlet is supposed to have studied every race’s weaponry so can make anything, which is unfortunate from a lore perspective. She studied every branch of asura technology so she can presumably make anything the asura can. She seems to have four separate forces that are equipped separately – aetherblades, molten alliance, steam creatures, clockworks.

The aetherblades are electricity based but don’t have the wind powers of an elementalist. The strikers and taskmasters look like trained magic users. We don’t know if Scarlet has trained these people, given them electric gadgets, or whether the aetherblades existed with a casting tradition before Scarlet (unlikely). The rest of the aetherblade soldiers are similar to thieves, guardians, warriors, engineers. The airships can carry cannons but we haven’t seen them used much. Scarlet has some new portal tech that can (conveniently) teleport the pirates anywhere the story needs them. We don’t know where the massive aetherblade army was recruited from as it seems implausible that fire and frost refuges or pirates generally could be recruited so successfully in secret.

Proof of your theory would be the hologram projectors in the numerous aetherblade instances we have been to. I’ll go with your one: Asuran tech with a tendency toward the air element.

As for the steam, not sure – maybe something to do with the steam creatures.

Konig, you have to admit that even if it was 60 airships the Pact would probably be out for blood. I mean how many airships do we ever see in the skies? 100 maybe… Even stealing 10 really puts a damper on their war effort, and on top of that after capturing a ship back their allies in LA end up just keeping the airship and giving it off to Ellen Kiel? Not very friendly is it?

The 60 would be pushing it indeed, though the 14 I originally placed, not so much.

However, it was most likely the original 3 – the one in the JP, and the two in the Aetherblade Retreat dungeon.
