Aetherpath devices now 'active' in EotM
I’m sure that something is going on, but as to an open world dungeon inside WvW, I don’t think it would be possible simply because you have three servers in there who are all hostile to one another. Everyone would just end up killing everyone else before anyone got to experience the dungeon – granted I’m not a WvW player so I have no clue how the toxic spore thingies worked out when they were in WvW?
But great find, it’s definitely very interesting and I’m curious to see what unfolds.
I was only in a couple times, but it was my experience that players tried to work around the towers that were on top of an objective they wanted and otherwise conveniently forgot they existed. I saw a zerg swarm one once, but in that regard it hardly counted as a speed bump.
EDIT: Then again I’m on a bottom-tier world now. Experience may vary back home on Sanctum.

My impression of how the toxic spores worked out in WvW is that if the developers’ aim was to kitten off a lot of the WvW players then it was a great success. Otherwise it was mostly ignored. The people who like WvW aren’t going there so they can do more PvE.
I think it’s simply a case of Living World content crossing over to WvW in a token fashion to give a little taste. Most of the generic open world elements of the Living Story are also present in WvW, balloons from Bazaar, presents from Wintersday, the toxic plants etc. I think it’s just another case of token WvW participation in Living Story and not really representative of the direction of the story.
I think you’re reading too much into this simply because the test server for WvW previewed something before a PvE equivalent had the chance to.
At first I didn’t think they looked like the tower of nightmares but these two are definately the same thing. I wonder though if it is really something or that it is just the same model. I havent watched the WP video as I am not interested in WvW but did he say something about the things while he showed them?

He actually compared them to the Do Not Touch towers, but I think that they are different.
I think you mentioned on Reddit that if it’s a real thing, then it’s probably chaos/dragon energy. I hadn’t thought of that, and I think it works. I’m reminded of the green glow of the chaotic material around Thumanova and the Anthill. I’ve also seen that material at Tekki’s lab in Brisban Wildlands, suggesting a link to the mists/Asuran gates.
